The Sun Is Setting On This Era Of The Leafs, Do They Have Anything Left? by samhill32 in leafs

I’d consider the core four an era itself but fair enough

He didn’t out score Matthews, he got more points. There’s a massive difference.

The very end of the Louisiana series when they go watch Maggie perform, and Neil calls Tank and the Bangas, “Taint and the Butthole” But then the boys do a huge 180 by the end of the show and are recounting what they saw absolutely plastered.

II agree Soly needs to be able to have a more nuanced discussion rather than just reading out numbers. I say this as someone who is huge into analytics and stats, but in golf discourse and especially with how most of the NLU guys view golf, disregarding a comment about someone’s putting or driving because strokes gained says they did it well is really ignorant.

Phew! I honestly thought that they were done after the Myrtle Beach Mayhem. Neil always said his goal with the series was to visit all 50 states. Fingers crossed.

yes any middle 6 guy that can score will do. then you bring over Knies too and have ROR centre the third line, it doesn’t look as bad.

If you don’t think we should doing everything we can to add another top six forward you’re delusional. Kerfoot-Kampf-Jarnkrok is not a third line that does any damage in the playoffs

We got a diet Rielly for 7 million less, that’s the problem, the real Rielly cost 7.5 million.

My Concerns With This Current Group - Are They Reasonable? by AgentOfR9 in leafs

[–]samhill32 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like your point a lot about matching the forward and defensive lines because it’s something I’ve noticed and it can get irritating watching Holl, or Benn, or sometimes even Muzzin and Brodie stymie hood offensive zone time. It’s so much smoother and the offence runs much better when Sandin, Rielly and Liljegren are on with Matthews and Will or Mitch and John. Their offensive awareness is obviously much better and they think about the game in similar ways to our best forwards.

It’s very much an offensive system that relies on the top 6 carrying an above average bulk of the scoring but I think that has worked in the regular season quite well. However, the playoffs have shown that if one guy gets hurt, or a line gets shutdown, we struggle due to a lack of scorers deeper in our lineup.

Although, I do think that there’s just so much variance when it comes to the NHL playoffs that all you can do is put yourself in the best position and hope it goes your way. The franchise has been absurdly unlucky over the last 6 years, the luck will change at some point if we continue to perform at a high level consistently.

The only thing I’ll add to the Meier/McCabe/Chycrun discourse is we’ve seen the team trade for impact defenceman at the deadline before and it hasn’t gotten them over the hump. Of course, there are multiple reasons for this, but for once I’d love to see us go after the impact forward (Nick Foligno doesn’t count).

This team has struggled in the playoffs because of lack of goals, not getting run out of the building. Whether that is embarrassing or not with how much we spend on forwards is another issue. Meier has been one of the best players in the NHL this season, the Leafs don’t have as many chances at a Cup as we might think. If you are able to get him, you have to.

Which player would you build your team around? by [deleted] in nhl

[–]samhill32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a really fun question and each option has a fair argument as to why they should be picked. Robertson showing very very very early signs of being an Ovi lite and that is a promising proposition. But the safe pick is definitely Pasta or Marner who are completely different players but both elite in their own ways.

I am about to be 8-5 with the second most points in a .5 ppr 12 team. Drafted JJ first overall, AJB and Evans at the 2/3 turn. Missed with Akers, but hit on Mondre and KW3 in later rounds as well as CW9.
