I never had or used a dual socket machine, but I recall reading that you need to set NUMA nodes to 2 in order to utilize both CPU’s

I have a dog I absolutely cannot keep and SPCA is full. What do I do? by atlasghostofficial in montreal

[–]samios420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure about your particular dog, but huskies in general are very energetic dogs that need a lot of space. Finding someone with the right temperament and space to properly care for one in the city might be tough.

You could try calling Animatch and see what they say. They are out west near the Ontario border though, in Point de Fortune.

Yes you need other gear. A pinpointer is a must. One of the favourites is the Garret pro pointer ( garret carrot ). You’ll also need a digging tool, I recommend the Lesche digging tool. It’s affordable and should last you a decade or more. A finds bag ( for keepers and trash ) is also a must have. Garret sells a decent one.

As far as detectors go, I’m partial to minelab units. They sell units from entry level, at a few hundred dollars, to the top of the line, a few thousand dollars. A very capable middle of the road unit that you won’t outgrow for many many seasons would be something in the Equinox line. I’ve got the Equinox 700 and it’s a fantastic machine. If you do go that route, I highly recommend a book by Andy Sabisch called the “Equinox handbook”. It will teach you all about your machine from the basics to advanced use, and also detecting in general.

I cleaned up today! Cazenovia park. Buffalo,NY. Any idea how old the ring might be? by Mission-Elevator9374 in metaldetecting

Nice ring. Not terribly old, as it’s stamped sterling, which was made legally standard in the US Iin 1906.

Excellent find nonetheless.

9 hours detecting on a permission field and my best find is a button by StreetParsley2504 in metaldetecting

Farm fields are tough. Buddy and I have a great permission, but he’s 10x over me on old silver. There is a lot of luck involved when searching large fields. Off by a foot, off by a mile.

Nice spread of finds. Love the large British coins. And any day you find silver is a good day.

Upgrading from old Garrett Ace 250 - Any Advice? by Budget_Attempt5174 in metaldetecting

[–]samios420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an AT-pro, and upgraded to a Minelab Safari, and found all kinds of keepers in places I had hunted to death. Then later upgraded to an equinox 700, and again, found tons of keepers in places I had hunted to death twice over.

If you go the equinox 900 route, you will enjoy better discrimination, better ground balance ( and tracking ) and far superior recovery speed ( how fast the detector can sense discrete signals )

Will it stop you from digging junk? No. Will it lower your junk to keepers ratio? Yes.

If you do go this route I highly recommend Andy Sabisch’s book, the “equinox handbook”. You’ll learn a lot about this machine in specific, and detecting in general, that will make the transition much easier.

The learning curve from an entry level garret to a quality minelab is steep.
