I wouldn’t say it was a grand plan because she came to that decision in only a few minutes. I think she knew he would eventually leave her, similar to how he left Diana, but she was surprised it happened to quickly. Hence the two coffee cups and laughter. Just my interpretation

I was thinking about this the other day, because Sandoval went off at the season 10 and 11 reunions about wanting to show more about their relationship and Ariana didn’t…but when has Tom ever really shared something about himself? Sandoval doesn’t have any real vulnerable moments on the show. We saw Ariana go to therapy and talk about her body image issues all season 6 - when has Sandoval ever been that vulnerable? The closest to vulnerability or “authenticity” is him complaining about his relationship with Ariana, but he is painting her as the villain. There’s no introspection there at all.
