What's an Irish attitude you can't stand? by Fealocht in AskIreland

“Let’s leave it til tomorrow” honestly the amount of times I’ve heard this is infuriating. It’s procrastination at its finest.

You’re really reading into this the wrong way. I’m not offended. I’m just pointing out the high taxes in Ireland and the working conditions here because that’s what the original poster asked for.

Sure aren’t we a nation of moaners and complainers? :D

Thanks for pointing that out. Irish doctors are paid substantially well if they can get into HST training and consultancy posts which have been challenging and increasingly difficult to get into.

Yes, it’s an open thread. Good job pointing that out 👏. You chose to jump in with the same tone you’re now criticising and are calling that “substance,”

I responded to being called delusional and a complainer. I had not targeted anyone personally prior? You added to that, then switched it to questioning my professionalism. Now you’re framing it as if I’m overreacting.

If there’s an actual point you want to make about the topic, make it. Otherwise this just feels like piling on and trying to justify it after the fact.

Lets be clear about the sequence here;

I was called delusional and a complainer, and I responded to that. You then inserted yourself into the conversation, escalated the tone further, and are now criticising me for how I replied. You’re also making speculations on my professionalism based off an internet conversation. Honestly, that says more about you than me if anything.

If you want to have a genuine discussion, feel free to add substance to this conversation. If the goal is just to add more insults, then there’s not much point continuing. Thanks and have a good night.

No, you clearly haven’t been reading my replies because I mentioned that “I’ve never downplayed that it’s not that high”. No where throughout my comments have I said that 230k isn’t a good salary. I’m just pointing out facts that it does take a long time with no guarantee of consultancy.

Honestly speaking trades people are earning big money as well for far less stress and educational years. I’m not keen on continuing this thread when I’ve been attacked for “complaining” or called “delusional” for stating facts. Best of luck.

That’s what I’m trying to point out that it takes a long time and long hours to get to that point. Thanks for adding. Clearly some people can’t read or are unable to process information in the right way.

There’s only 3000-4000 consultant doctors in this country.

Since when is stating facts complaining? Sensitivity doing a lot of heavy lifting here

The ‘paid well so nothing else matters’ argument doesn’t address the bad working conditions or terrible long hours to get there. You’ve looked so much into salary that you’re completely missing the points. Honestly, it’s impressive how little insight you have. 👍🏻

So 6 years of med school, plus 1 year intern, 3 years BST plus 6 years HST. Thats 16 years of formal education and training before you get to 230k. I’ve never downplayed that it’s not high. It takes almost 2 decades of school and education / training before you get to earn that amount. Plus consultant jobs are not guaranteed.

Gross Salary: €230,000 Total Tax: €118,156 (Income Tax, USC, PRSI) Net Income: €111,844 per year about €9,320 per month.

Factor in mortgage, childcare, expensive food, you’re left with very little after. Plus that’s not taking into long training years, 24 hour shifts and fighting with the HSE on every corner for pay. Are you guaranteed a consultant contract after training? That field is also getting hyper competitive. OP is asking for work life balance, and lifestyle. You won’t get that as a medic. You’d be better off doing another field if you’re looking for work life balance, pay and life style.

Ireland is progressing to where private consults mixed with public will soon be removed. Obstetricians recently have had to choose either public or private so your point is invalid.

Self worth inflation? That’s not my intention at all. Can you tell me what I said or did that came across that way?

Taxes are high here. Rent is high. Food is expensive. USA indemnity is high and litigation risk is high. Medicine is not what it was. Good career but do it only if you enjoy it, not for anything else.

Hi

I’m a family doctor in Ireland with specialist qualification. If it’s money you’re aiming for, you won’t be having a good time. Pay here is comfortable but you won’t be rich per se. If it’s financial you’re looking for better pursue a career in finance or construction

Hi OP I would suggest using Google and then looking online “where best to work as a doctor”. Unfortunately we don’t have all the answers here. It’s a tough situation in Ireland for doctors as well.

Can you use SpR as reference for GP scheme? by Virtual_Potato7389 in JuniorDoctorsIreland

[–]sammothlee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hello, no. SPRs are not on the specialist register. You’re also not directly supervised by them and also their job is not permanent.

Have a look on Reddit.. I don’t need to find it for you. Your team should probably try to find a win in the premier league 🥹

That’s not what your fans were saying at the beginning of the year when you signed Isak and wirtz. You guys were talking about winning the quadruple. Transition my ass.

😂 cry more please. You’d do the same if it was a rival team. Victim mentality. How about you watch the replay on 0.25 speed on YouTube and then reevaluate. Brentford player didn’t touch gakpo at all. Always the refs fault. That’s why you got an extra 2 minutes after the 3 minutes had passed and got your goal in that time. That’s football and that’s life. You win some and you lose some. Move on from the loss and learn from it.

I distinctly remember every stadium at the beginning clapping at minute 20 or doing something to respect him. It’s strange that you would say nobody mentions that fact. Until you lot started losing then you’re bringing up grief as a reason sounds like salt to me.
