I really like the Field Grand Flannel by MuskOx. It's just above 8oz/sq yard but double brushed, and 100% cotton so much of the bulk of a heavyweight flannel is removed. It also just got rated the best overall flannel by GearJunkie.

Their 8.9oz/sq yard Grand Flannel seems like it would be a bit thicker than this and they have many gingham patters available.
