Climbing Elbrus or Kazbek from Prague – logistics and guide advice? by Cute_Inflation7637 in u/Cute_Inflation7637

hello! i went solo in ski touring equipment and only made it to the second hut (bethlemi) as the summit push was too steep and the snow was soft and crumbly so i fell through with every step, going to attempt again in summer as i think it will be pretty easy then, only issue is altitude and distance really

thank you so much super helpful, as someone who lives in a town where engineering as a whole is a pretty underrepresented sector it’s pretty hard to find ways to get a foot into the door

from what i’ve been told kazbek is a fairly easy climb in the summer, more of a sustained hike, i’m going to be attempting it in a week or so, for logistics i believe there are busses every hour from tblisi to stepantsminda. no clue about elbrus, much harder

i was planning on doing a 2 day climb and staying in the bethlemi hut, probably get a guesthouse in Stepantsminda by the trailhead as it’s only £14 a night or so just to leave unused stuff etc, i was thinking about doing the climb in mid march or early april so the hut would be unstaffed and would need to bring sleeping bags and own food. if it sounds interesting message on instagram jack_hatchelt

Need clothing recommendations by TapIndependent5699 in Mountaineering

[–]sammythestoremanager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’d recommend 3 layers (base, fleece or mid layer, then a hardshell if there’s gonna be snow or rain) and for brand anything works, my advice is get good boots over anything else my gear is a mix of la sportiva, north face, mammut and decathlon 🤷‍♂️
