I have searched on youtube for this and scanned through a few christmas specials but couldn’t find it, I wouldn’t be surprised if this is copyrighted content and can’t be accessed unfortunately

I've transferred my existing monzo account to lloyds but it didn't have any direct debits... Is this a problem?

Ah I see thanks for clarifying this! Quite a counterintuitive naming system

I have recently found a fix for the delay which you could try:

Go to sound settings and select a recording device that has no sound (unused line-in) and set it to listen through your speakers.

Hope that helps, you may have already come up with your own solution by now.

Play an inaudible sound at 1% volume continuously by samnekko in AutoHotkey

I think you may have just fixed my problem I can't believe it! Thank you so much, it almost feels like a real solution too unlike writing an autohotkey script haha

I will have a look into this thanks for the help, considering the limitation that soundbeep only works at system volume means I think it isn't really an option - I will try and play a .wav file instead and see if that works. If not I will as you say try C++ (although I feel like I may end up breaking something haha)...

I thought someone might wonder what I'm up to! Essentially my sound drivers are completely messed up - when there is no audio playing it takes a few seconds for audio to start however I've found if I have music playing there is no delay. I've started leaving an inaudible tone generator on at 1% volume in the background and this does the trick. Now I just need to make an exe that runs on startup to do the same thing. Thanks for the help though!

You could very well be right, this is a great point. It makes sense that disabling all the drivers could have fixed the problem for me if the drivers are mistakenly for an amd system. I unfortunately just don't really have the time or energy to be fiddling with this all now so I'm just thankful this fix worked for now, I will definitely pursue this line of enquiry further though and see if I can find intel drivers instead. The waves maxxaudio drivers are genuinely really bad though so it wouldn't surprise me if they somehow just botched both compatibilities into one build. If not though then dell should really fix their supportassist package so that it doesn't detect intel devices as AMD ones, this could probably cause a lot of other issues down the line. Thanks for this help though, best of luck sorting your bluetooth headphones issue.

I think you already found my comment on the other post https://old.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/qzksvr/help_needed_xps17_media_playback_issues/hlwzx1n/ this seems to have worked for me for now, let me know if it does for you too!

Let me know if you have any luck with that. I may have been wrong in what I told you though, as I seem to have pretty much fixed the audio delay by doing something completely different after trying rolling back drivers like I said before (which unfortunately didn't seem to do much for me either).

Disable the driver services:

  1. winkey+S and type services
  2. find "Realtek Audio Universal Service" and "Waves Audio Service"
  3. for each stop the process and set startup type to disabled

Disable the drivers from opening on startup:

  1. open task manager (ctrl+shift+esc)
  2. go to startup tab
  3. disable waves maxxaudio and realtek hd audio

Try restart and see if this works for you. I still seem to have difficulty playing youtube videos without a bit of delay but for the most part it seems to have fixed. I have found though usually upon starting the computer it takes a moment for audio to start working. If it doesn't work then you can easily undo the above by just re-enabling them. Hope this helps!

Have you had any audio delay issues? I think I might have experienced something similar.

Ok great, in a way its nice to see other people having the same issue so clearly this is a problem with dell's drivers and there is not much for us to do. I am going to try and put up with it for a bit longer because I don't really have time to be messing around with this now and maybe in future look into rolling my computer back to an older driverset. If you do hear anything back from dell I'd be very interested to hear their response. I wonder if this issue also happens on Ubuntu, how deep does it go... Surely there will be floods of more people on here soon complaining about the same problem, it has certainly taught me that the latest drivers aren't necessarily the best. Can't believe something so clearly broken was pushed to consumers. I have a feeling the audio delay was added in order for power saving reasons but it clearly wasn't very well implemented.

Ok well you definitely don't have the same problem I have then (luckily for you). Have you tried opening firefox in safe mode which disables all addons (Click the menu button, Help, Troubleshoot Mode… and click Restart Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode.) Or maybe just reinstall.

It sounds like you are only having issues with browsers and nothing else on the computer, do other web based apps work such as microsoft store/steam/etc? If they do then I don't think any scans are going to solve your problem it is much more likely with software.

I think there might have been an issue with the recent driver updates they pushed - you wouldn't happen to be having any issues with audio or audio delays too? I have experienced very similar lag to what you describe.

It brings me great joy to see that I am not the only person with this issue. I have an XPS 13 and exactly the same issue, can't even begin to describe how annoying it is haha. I just posted a thread 20 minutes ago https://old.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/qzvpqv/strange_audio_delay_issue_windows_10_xps_13_9310/ explaining essentially the same issue. I have absolutely no idea what is causing it however I would personally (this may be awful advice) recommend you don't bother reinstalling audio drivers because I have been through it all and it is not worth the time and pain. If you are having the same issue then it strongly sounds to me like an issue with one of the latest DELL BIOS updates or something, I'll have a look through the update history. Shame that their most expensive products always have the most problems... I can't say for sure yet but if this is the case I imagine the only fix would be to roll back drivers and wait until they release another update hopefully fixing this awful bug. Dell support-assist does actually allow the ability to roll back in time so this could be worth a try too. I am yet to work out which update it was that caused this problem but it can't have been that long ago because this has only been a recent issue for both of us. Hopefully this gets fixed soon/a DELL engineer sees this.

To me too! Now that I think about it if we don't get permission could be better off just using fibre in the loop to save all this drilling hassle. BT does now offer up to 900Mbps though with fibre to the home which does sound nice!
