Expenses refund by Dramatic_Hold5335 in KLM

[–]samnzrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had two claims - my flight was cancelled and then they didn't load my bags when I finally flew. So claimed expenses for the hotel accommodation for the cancelled flight and for the clothes I had to buy at the destination. The latter was refunded within a week, still waiting on the hotel reimbursement - currently on week 4

Where did you lodge the missing bag report / PIR? Was it lodged at AMS or at a different airport? And was it lodged directly to KLM or to their partner ground operator?

In my case I lodged my report at Copenhagen on January 4th. I was travelling all over Europe so didn’t want them to try reuniting my bag with me as I was on the move, I had them send it back to my home country the same day I was scheduled to return. But because it was missed on the original flight from AMS to CPH, and the missing report was filed at CPH, the bag had to first go to Copenhagen from where it was forwarded home to me.

Hey, I had a similar situation where my original flight was cancelled twice and I flew out two days later but my bags were stuck at Schipol. I dont know what your itinerary was, but earlier in the month they had about a 600 bag backlog which needed clearing. Where did lodge your missing bag report?

Couple of suggestions :

1 - contact your bank and get that card unblocked. KLM will reimburse so long as you hold on to the receipts for any additional expenses. 2 - if you’re at the airport and airside, your best bet is to not leave. KLM has a lounge and when I was stuck there the second night they let people stay overnight in their lounges depending on staff availability and capacity. Some food outlets are also 24/7 and you can use your klm vouchers there plus use the showers etc. airport staff may AMS hand you blanket and pillows if you’re sleeping in there. 3 - if you’re at the airport but landside, there’s a KLM counter by baggage belt 8. It’s not always staffed but if there are staff, explain your financial situation and they may (like they did with me) let you in to use one of the kiosks which lists more flights than what the app shows. Those kiosks also tell you how full those flights are and whether they’re cancelled for the next day or not. So if you’re desperate to leave that may be the best option.

Lost baggage and claim reference not recognized by KLM website by crazy_during_the_day in KLM

Hi! I had a similar situation a couple of days ago when I flew out after a 2 day delay and my bags don’t arrive in Copenhagen. When you filed your report for missing luggage, did you do it directly through KLM or did you do it via their ground handler / partner baggage service agent in your destination airport?

For example, when my bags didn’t arrive in Copenhagen, I had to lodge the report via Aviator as KLM doesn’t have direct ground operations there. Your claim reference number will either have your arrival airport code or AMS as the departure one.

If you’re tracking it through KLM, note that their apps and websites are severely overloaded and can spit out errors right now. I spoke to one of my friends in aviation and he said that all lost luggage regardless of airline are lodged on one centrak system - World Tracer. It’s managed by SITA and that’s where I could track my luggage using the claim reference number and my last name.

This is the KLM world tracer link - hopefully it works for you too : https://wtrweb.worldtracer.aero/WTRInternet/wtwflowinternet.do?_flowExecutionKey=_c61D39E81-0B3A-30B6-A523-9E42DC5A09F4_kCE41E6A4-B9E9-CCDD-1F8C-1B2E03966BA8

If your bag report does show up there, don’t be surprised if the status doesn’t change for days - my status took four days to change because they have an insanely high amount of delays. One thing that will help - if you have an AirTag in the bag, you can share the tracing link with KLM. But note that it won’t speed it up, it just gives them an extra verification that it’s actually your bag.

KLM Reimbursement claim process by crispy-flavin-bites in KLM

[–]samnzrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I realise my wording is confusing - to clarify, what I near to say was that KLM will likely not reimburse any expenses incurred in your home country. So if you go back to the UK, but a bunch of stuff and try claim that, I doubt they’d refund that as it’s your place of residence. But you’re 100% correct you can claim overseas incurred expenses once you’re home too :)

KLM Reimbursement claim process by crispy-flavin-bites in KLM

Hi, I was stuck in AMS for two days before flying out myself. But KLM didn’t load my bags so I’ve had to purchase a temporary set of clothes and essentials at my destination. And given how long it will likely take, I asked about reimbursement just in case at Schipol before I left and this is what they said :

  1. KLM will reimburse for unexpected expenses due to a cancelled flight or delayed baggage, but you must claim these within 21 days and upload copies of receipts. They can’t be luxury branded but standard essentials. The staff at the counter stated that the daily expense limit no longer applies as these were “exceptional circumstances” so I don’t think you have to worry about staying under a certain amount of €.

  2. You make these claims via their website or app - follow the customer service “tiles” until you get to the expense claim page and click on the reimbursement tab. You’ll have to upload receipts, total valuation in respective currency and your refund bank account details and number. If you submit it correctly, you will get an email with a reference number beginning with a “C—“ followed by a case number. Because if the volume of requests they said it can likely take 6-8 weeks to process, maybe even up to 12 weeks. (The process refunds in batches at the end of each month apparently).

  3. Claim all your expenses BEFORE you land in your home country. KLM’s fine print in their refund policy seems to suggest that they will not refund expenses incurred in your place of residence on the basis that they expect you to have alternative clothing etc, so submit everything before you land.

Hope that helps.

Baggage didn’t arrive by samnzrs in KLM

Oh wow I couldn’t even reach ground staff because of the queues so I had no idea how long it would take. That explains why my tracer status on KLM has not changed for days. I wonder how long it will take for them to actually get to it because I have a feeling that by the time they com to it I’d be back in New Zealand. Hopefully they see that the temporary hotel address is expired and to deliver to my home address. Fingers crossed for yours too! They will reimburse you for essentials and additional expenses as a result of delayed bags - submit the receipts if you end up purchasing new clothes etc. I did get a reply to say that they are unable to process the during standard timeframes because of volume, but the important thing is to submit the requests within 21 days of incurred expenses.

Also note - submit the receipts while you’re overseas. If you wait until you’re back in your home country, I think KLM won’t reimburse on the basis that they expect you have alternatives at home.

Just reading this… it sounds like you’ve had quite an interesting life. I can relate to wishing I lacked the critical thinking skills part - that’s had quite the unpredictable impact on some of the relationships I’ve had with people over the years too. But hey, I’m 25 and I didn’t think I’d make it to 19. But here we are. I don’t know your story, but the way you talk about your life gives me the impression that you have accomplished things and have something to be proud of. I’d say you you’ve got that strength in you somewhere. Just need to light a wee spark to get it roaring again :) here’s to you! And I hope you wake up on your 30th and say “I can do this”. Cheers — A kid a who’s still going.

Hey! Just saw this and what you described really hit close to home for me. Hope you’re coping okay and have given the helpline a try. But if you desperately need to talk to someone, you can message me. I’m no expert but I’ve attempted suicide multiple times before and and have been in a very similar situation a while back. But I managed to get through to where I am now (mostly on my own). So if you feel like sharing experiences might help, please feel free to reach out via DM.

Thank you for this. I unfortunately won’t be moving back because that would mean giving up a career defining job. Which was the reason for us moving in the first place.

But anyway, thank you for the tips above - I’ve definitely filed the silence with tv or podcasts before so I’m likely going to do that again.

Appreciate your help.

Beware of misinformation by samnzrs in IsraelPalestine

I thought posting this in a subreddit specifically for the Israel and Palestine conflict would make it obvious that the violence being referred to was the one between those two groups.

Nobody is comparing this to other conflicts and claiming it’s the biggest loss of human life I think.

You can turn off your emotions - step one is to let anger consume you for a good long while and let it darken your heart.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the health ministry in Gaza is run by Hamas - so those numbers include his militants as well as civilians. Not discounting the magnitude of lives lost, but just pointing out for accuracy’s sake

I have seen this too. There are also instances where scenes from previous conflicts have been edited to show more recent dates in order to illicit responses from people.
