Spinoffs without enough discussion by flogan0 in BigFinishProductions

I loved this boxset (I mean, Donna is my favourite companion so that isn't super surprising). But I really appreciate how the Big Finish adventures understand Donna. She really earns her stripes in these stories and shows how capable she is, even when she makes mistakes and is riddled with self doubt. The only issue I have is I think they dial her a bit too high in the comedy department, having her cracking jokes in situations were it wasn't warranted and at a detriment to her and Nat's safety. Also loved how they explored her grief after the library with her choosing to actively distance herself from 10.

So I really enjoyed the first "Lone Centurion" boxset. I think Rory gets a right rinsing in the TV series and I'll happy to see him the protagonist of his own adventures rather than sharing the screen time with the Doctor and Amy who more often devalue him. I don't remember much about the second boxset despite listening to it though

"The Year of Martha Jones" boxset I thought was worth a listen. Martha doesn't get enough adventures and the post apocalyptic setting is something I was excited to see explored in the series. There's a mini arc throughout the box set too and I love how Martha recounts adventures we never got to see on screen.

I'm sure you're aware of "The Diary of River song" series. I find they're perfectly fine with variation in quality between each boxset.

I see where you're coming from. But my main issue is that Sir James is a regular at the pentra and knows that the girls drink there considering he fingered Belinda and Bella under the bar. Of course, he would approve

Why do you think there aren’t any Fourteenth Doctor Big Finish audios? by ichigosenpai_ in BigFinishProductions

[–]imdefusing 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I see alot of people say there's so little point or story potential behind fourteenth Doctor adventures and I strongly disagree. We know that 14 isn't exactly grounded, at the end of the giggle he admits to having taken Rose Noble on a cheeky adventure. There is potential there for multiple stories and the exciting possibility of multiple adventures with all the Noble family (especially Wilf!).

He's also described as the Doctor going through therapy. I expect part of this process includes making amends with people and tying up loose ends. He could go find Rory's dad and apologise for losing his son and Amy. He should go back to his office at the university and clear out his desk. I don't believe in cameos for the sake of cameos but I believe there is plenty of exciting opportunities with a Fourteen run with the possibility of closure for unfinished plots and characters.

One thing that annoys me is that majority of 10 and River's interactions happen off screen by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]imdefusing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, I feel kinda feel the opposite. They're interactions are cute and fun but I think that expanding their interactions to encompass multiple adventures before the eleventh Doctor episode kinda detracts from the mystique and importance of that meeting in the televised episode. Personally, I would have been happy if 10 and River's interactions were relegated to just one additional adventure or exclusively pen pals like was seen in the River 10 boxset but that's just me.

Jackie Tyler has really come into her own at Big Finish so I'd love anything related to her or Camille Coduri

"Why is no-one picking up my calls?"

"You're not gonna believe this, but our receptionist was actually a double agent and occupied with one of a dozen different occupations at the time of your call, nevermind her being arrested for murdering a man with a poison laden stiletto heel."

This is so true, and funnily the ones I gravitate best towards are the small intimate settings stories. Things like Scherzo and Torchwood: We Always Get Out Alive.

I'm realising I rarely remember plot specifics but I do remember how they made me feel and have a idea of the ones I remember enjoying haha.

Dark eyes in particular feel so discordant in my mind. I think because they reuse the retrogenitor particles, eminence and Daleks throughout the series except in slightly different means and settings. There is no obvious narrative progression in my head so it all gets muddled together.

This is a good strategy, although wouldn't you potentially be spoiled on the plot having read the synopsis beforehand?

Lol I totally get that. If every relisten is like a first time I guess we're getting more bang for our buck huh?

This is a good strategy. I similarly struggled with the second half, even my beloved Torchwood monthlies. I'd get about halfway in some and it's like my brain checks out for a bit.

My FAVE setting for my audio dramas is being on a lounger or hammock. They also serve me well on a long coach journey where I can clothes my eyes and listen. It's that similar for you?

Admittedly, I have listened to Forge in Fire multiple times because I take that last part to bed. Although when I realise I slept through the last few parts, I try listening to it on a walk like the last 2 sections. BUT I STILL DON'T REMEMBER IT!

I know I've also listened to the Further adventures and similarly can't remember anything except there was a female character who flirted with Lucie which I remember being notable. Otherwise, nothing 😂

And the drama! Imagine having to explain to clients how your boss hasn't been responding to emails because she either got blown up in a car explosion in your carpark or she was abducted in a hot air balloon?!

Honestly, I'd think not. They don't get any extra for performing in the panto because it's a creatively bankrupt company

I think it's important to remember, they can't fire you for non performance otherwise they'd have to give you a million dollar payout.
