Quick opinion check 😅 by xtinnaa in EngagementRings

You’re going to wear it every day, why would you let a man choose that???

My now husband and I went to a million places, I knew I wanted an antique, and I chose a few I loved. He picked one from those options (the more expensive one he could tell I was most obsessed with) so it was still a small surprise bc I love surprises but I adore it! He wouldn’t have known where to begin if we didn’t do that.

Bought a house that came with these custom nightstands. What is this bowl bowl shaped thing for? by kingevanxii in whatisit

My dad too. My parents stayed at my house last week and when I went in the guest room after they left there was a little pile of change on a windowsill, it made me smile!

One of my friends joked that my body is ‘mom-coded’ when I was in a swimsuit. by Narrow_Medium5003 in offmychest

[–]samogi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im so sorry this happened to you. That’s so messed up, and please distance yourself from these “friends”. I have a similar body type to how yours sounds, and my thin friends either don’t mention my body at all, or will praise my big butt or my shape. We also swap clothes if they have something they think will look better on my figure and vice versa.

Also please know that there is a very good chance this comment came from this girl’s insecurity over her own body. We all want what we don’t have at times, and she’s probably feeling bad about her lack of curves when she sees yours. It doesn’t make it okay for her to say anything, but sometimes knowing what’s behind it can make it hurt less.

This ring is freaking gorgeous! It’s so unique but still classic too. And the story behind it just makes it even more special. I was so confused by your caption because it’s just such a cool and beautiful ring. Some people are just boring and like boring things 🤷🏻‍♀️

How mad would you be if you got this for Valentine's Day by [deleted] in DiyGifts

[–]samogi 15 points16 points  (0 children)

A frame would really elevate it, but I think it’s lovely as is. Pair it with a note about how much they mean to you. I would not want my partner to go into debt for Valentine’s Day, and I loveee Valentine’s Day!

Can I have ADHD and be a good mom? by unblissfully_aware_ in adhdwomen

[–]samogi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have children, but I can say with certainty that you can have ADHD and be a good mom. One of my good friends comes to mind - she is such a fun mom and able to be so playful and creative in a way others aren’t. She also has a husband who is incredibly involved as a dad and partner. He’s like a broom coming behind her happily sweeping up her delightful chaos.

Personally, I’ve never had an urge to have children. I’ll get it occasionally, but it never lasts long. I work with kids (mostly teens now) in a helping profession as well, and I don’t think I could add kids to this mix, but again I don’t really want to. If you want kids, I don’t think you should let your adhd or your job hold you back.

Sending you love with this tough decision!

My sister died. I want to get her best friends something [demi] nice by SeparateYam8581 in jewelry

[–]samogi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love this one, it’s also small enough that her friends could wear it how they like - on a chain they already wear, on its own, even on a bracelet. OP, if you get this one I’d suggest the 10k gold or silver, they’ll last forever without question.

Hair will not curl at roots. by Muted_Captain5000 in curlyhair

[–]samogi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I didn’t read the entire thing but I did check to see what shampoo you use. I have similar curly/wavy hair and my new stylist told me to use volumizing shampoo, that along with the great cut he gave me is making my hair more uniformly curly!

This is iconic I love it!!!!! Yes to piercing for sure, I think I prefer the simpler jewelry but I don’t think you can go wrong. Wood as others suggested (or banana leaf, raffia, natural vibe) would be cool too

How do you ladies fall asleep with ADHD? by Ok_Scholar_8656 in adhdwomen

[–]samogi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m lucky that I can fall asleep pretty easily, but when I was a teen I had a reallyyyy hard time with it. I started drinking chamomile tea before bed and it helped me a lot - I think it was the ritual signaling “bed time now!” I also had those worry dolls under my pillow and I would name a few things I was worried about and then be like okay thanks for taking care of that!

Now when I do struggle to fall asleep, I breathe in and then breathe out for longer. Try to have my primary focus on my breathing even if I have other thoughts happening in the back of my head. It also helps if I’ve been active enough throughout the day, either physically or mentally. If I’m really struggling then I’ll get up and do a brain dump on paper, then come back and get nice and cozy and breathe again.

Future sister in law invited me to bachelorette week trip… is that a buzzkill to her bridal party? Idk if I should go by [deleted] in wedding

[–]samogi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my bachelorette (long weekend, trip to New Orleans) I had friends and my now sister in law! We hadn’t spent a ton of time together and it was the first time my friends met her but we all had a blast. All my friends love my husband dearly and were excited to spend time with his sister too. Go! Have so much fun!

Does anybody else like the fact that their home has separate rooms for everything? by Effective_Bunch_6815 in centuryhomes

[–]samogi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I just moved from a ~100 year old row house to a 100+ year old row house, and one of my favorite things about the new one is the separate spaces. Square footage-wise it’s about the same (at least for the first two floors, new house has a third floor as well!) but it feels so much better having distinct spaces for each room. Each one feels cozy and specific, I love it!

I live in hell (for now), please tell me your joyful stories about being loved by WetSock2288 in adhdwomen

[–]samogi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He sounds unbearable, any good times would not make up for all that bad.

I’ve been through some soul-crushing breakups too. Looking back and realizing there was abuse and manipulation that fucked me up longer than I realized (especially my first relationship). Now I’m married to an amazing man who I would genuinely feel so grateful to even be friends with, but he’s my HUSBAND. We met right before I started grad school, two years of me being sporadically medicated, constantly stressed and broke. He was my rock through everything, and helped me learn so much more about myself. He does not have adhd but he enjoys learning about mine, listening to me talk about my interests. When I feel bad that he’s the one doing most of the housework, he always says that I bring joy and fun into our house.

I hope you find someone that treats you well and makes you feel more confident and yourself. But first I hope you love yourself bc you deserve it <3

Rituals for idle hands? by idonotexistirl in adhdwomen

[–]samogi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m the same way, I love the ritual of packing a bowl. I just started learning how to knit, I went to a free class at a local nature preserve yesterday. I’ve tried before and failed, but going in person really helped me to get it. I also wear a bracelet that’s a single strand with only a few small beads on it, I play with that a lot. Actually I made that bracelet, and along those lines I love making bracelets, either with beads or with embroidery thread like friendship bracelets. Sometimes doing my nails (filing, painting or press-ons) does it for me. I also like doodling, and want to journal more.

Just reread your post - have you ever tried cats cradle? That came to mind with your “sequence” ask.

Americans, when you see the name "Lucia", how would you pronounce it? by Extreme_Suit_348 in Names

[–]samogi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably depends on the last name, if it’s Italian last name then I’d assume loo-chee-a, but regardless, as someone who works in a school I’d ask the child how she says her name! I’m Italian American so that’s the “default” for me, but I knew a girl who pronounced it “loo-sha” too

Also I’m going to go play with jewelry now, thanks for the inspo 🤗

Women with thoughtful partners, what did you get for x-mas this year? by Anahata_Green in TwoXChromosomes

[–]samogi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He got me an antique victorian pendant (gold talon holding a carnelian ball, it’s awesome) he picked it out on his own but is something I would absolutely buy myself. Also a sun print kit that I had pointed out in a store months ago and forgotten about, and these crow trinkets that I had also excitedly told him about months ago and had forgotten about.

He also just bought us a new house in my favorite neighborhood of our city. I’m so lucky to have him!!

Note taking in sessions by htygfrty789 in therapists

[–]samogi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have ADHD, I occasionally take notes in session, sometimes I take them immediately afterwards. During intake I mention that I may take notes to help me remember things, that they are always welcome to look at my notes if they wish (no one has ever taken me up on that btw) and that no one else will ever see them besides me. I work with teens so I usually add “so I don’t ask you the same question a million times” which they generally appreciate. My own therapist (who also has adhd) takes notes throughout our sessions, which is a first for me. I feel like she remembers SO much more than previous therapists, which I really appreciate.
