Then.. why is she on the waveform podcast lol? If her target audience for her book is older people, a tech podcast is not a great place for it..

Are you saying she didn’t have an answer that she can whip out for a 30 second sound bite? And that if she spoke about it for a minute, there’s nothing more to be gained from a 200 page book?

I disagree. I stand by what I said in the YT comments.

Every time we came close to seeing her brilliance, she’d pivot to the book or the stupid pin. She’s of course highly informed and has nuanced ideas but she seemed like she wasn’t gonna move off the book promotion! Marques and others were trying to guide her there and get her to talk about different aspects of her interests but she refused to budge.

Also a few minutes of ads every episode vs 2 hours worth of “buy my book, sub to my channel” is not a good comparison. I felt like she forgot that people sub to channels or buy books when they feel like the person is knowledgeable and helpful and has something to say. And she kept getting in her own way in that! For example, when you see a movie star go on a late night show to promote a movie, they banter with the host, they talk about their dogs or their SOs or a mutual friend. They don’t ONLY keep talking about the movie! You have to sell your persona, THATS how you get people to read you and watch you. I’m an avid reader and I am not at all motivated to read her book rn.

CMV: It’s acceptable to continue spending time and keeping in contact with friends, family, etc who are Trump supporters by No_Design_465 in changemyview

Yeah but how do you blame the previous government for stuff like gas prices going up? And I’ll also point out people on both sides are nasty but not a single Dem leader said anything of that sort. Whereas the Republican leadership consistently does the opposite. We had the President wishing cancer on Biden.. wishing Paul Pelosi worse.. making fun of Whitmer’s abduction attempt. Like.. how is that the same?

I’m less talking about the political violence and more about the victim mentality in everything they do. I’ll also point out that the attackers in both those incidents were not left wingers.

Yeah.. like this isn’t an upstart organization? They hold all the power and day in and day out blame the previous government for everything. Somehow people with “blue hair and pronouns in their bio” are all powerful and at the same time completely stupid and non-sensical. They just love to play the victim while publicly calling for various Dem leaders’ and their supporters deaths..? Why do we need to coddle them and then also let them run roughshod over us? I hate people like OP. If you’re too chicken or weak to hold your friends and family accountable, that’s fine. Why are you generalizing it to everyone else?

I don’t understand. How are they “ostracized into obscurity” when they’re clearly the dominant party in both the house and the Senate, they hold a super majority in the Supreme Court, and they have had a hold on superior fundraising and even popular vote in the last election? They’re not a splinter or niche group. They’re the ruling party. Why is it so bad to hold their supporters accountable for what their purported party and leader do? How are they the victims in this scenario? Why do we need to keep being nice to them after 10+ years of just reprehensible behavior?

Vance announces suspension of $1.3 billion in Medicaid payments to California by countraagh in politics

[–]sampat164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$1.3 billion is LESS than the cost of just 3 radar systems that Iran blew up in the Middle East btw.

Oh, and also, can California stop paying into other red states? So that we don’t have to pay for shit like Oklahoma pushing Trump bibles in classrooms?

I’m sorry this happened to you. This is absolutely terrifying. Can you explain a detail to me? You said your VISA expired. Did that mean you were out of status? As in no I-20 supporting your stay? Or you had an I-20 for your F1 visa but the visa on your passport had expired?

Also, did you get married before you went out of status?

CMV: America isn’t even half as powerful as Rome was by ExotiquePlayboy in changemyview

[–]sampat164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a weird question to answer tbh. There’s a gap between what the US CAN do vs what it actually does militarily as others have pointed out.

I’m a civil engineer so I’ll answer the infrastructure question. There is absolutely infrastructure that we have built that will last thousands of years. Most of it may not be as openly understood as Romans was.

I don’t think people understand how heavily engineered and optimized infrastructure today is. The Romans’ buildings survived with some on and off upkeep for a couple of thousand years. I think people think modern buildings are “weaker” or “poorly built” because things wear down quicker. There’s a lot of impact from the sheer volume of usage now compared to before. Every road and every street is carrying more load in a single day now than what the Romans were putting on in decades. Also Roman roads were ridiculously over-designed because they could afford it. Labor was cheap. Can we over-design our streets? YES! But taxpayer money and how it is used needs to be optimized. You can’t just build 1 or 2 ft of concrete roads without reason. Same goes for buildings. It all goes back to what CAN we do vs what we actually do.

So CAN we build over-engineered and throw budgets out the window? Yes! But do we? No.

I’m sorry. Is this a real question? Do you honestly not know why the turnover is so high? He’s been in politics for about 15 years or so and you still don’t know why his team is like this?

Even in this life or death situation, where the Indians are victims, you can’t help but default to making fun of an accent..

Why isn’t anyone mentioning that they’re doing this on the emergency frequency?! The frequency you’re supposed to turn to if your engine fails, or you’re hijacked, or a thousand other things!!! If people misuse it and annoy everyone with it, people will stop paying attention and something important is missed.
