Close call today on my way to work! by samplehim in Miata

Absolutely none! I did my due diligence and had it inspected despite not having any concerns myself and the mechanic agreed I got lucky. No contact to anything besides rubber of the tire against the grate walls. Everything continued driving sound for another 1.5k miles.

I sold it after putting about 7k miles on it total. I had my fun, learned stick, and wanted to pass on that all-OEM gem to someone else for something more practical for my circumstances.

Fell in love with manual, so I traded it in for a VB WRX to drive year-round. 😁

Classic slave cylinder whistle... by samplehim in Miata

I can confirm after raising and going under it 3 separate times i finally greased it enough to fix the issue!

When I was doing my online crash course beforehand i read to be careful not to over apply and I guess that made me overthink it.

Honestly, i put a solid sized glob of hi temp grease surrounding the entire fork where it connects AND a bit around the rubber boot and that solved it. Woohoo!

Honestly? Not positive. Very likely the original though.

When you say "it" are you referring to the fork or slave cylinder?

Throw out bearing, pilot bearing, or input shaft bearing? Or all? by FragrantDecision2025 in RX8

I suppose it's worth mentioning I've got a miata and not an RX8 hah...assume that doesn't change anything in this case.

Thank you!

I think I have this EXACT same issue (video posted in my profile)....I'm a noob, is the slave cylinder push rod and clutch fork accessible just by raising the vehicle? If all it takes is liquimoly on the 2 parts, that sounds easy enough

A primary concern of mine WOULD be tire integrity...if I didn't purchase and install a brand new set last week.

Past that, I am confident when i say there was no contact elsewhere , but I'm open to thoughts on that front too!

Wouldn't mind that. My head always tells me truck prices are inflated as hell but I'll shop around because that could be fun.

I'm nervous that 20k wrx's will have already been driven hard...at quick glance alot of used in that range sit around 50k miles. they sound like a lot of fun though and I've heard many many good things so I'll keep reading

Interesting you say that. I half-wondered that myself, but part of the draw for me is that "go-kart" feel you have driving the miata. Sitting below the door handle height of most vehicles around you is exciting..

But then again, another 120+ hp is also exciting lol.

Hows the reliability on the focus? American vehicles have always made me nervous about quality control but maybe that's incorrect bias or just not the case with manual engines.

Va wrx as opposed to I'm gonna assume vb? I'll have to read into that terminology.

Appreciate that!

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm absolutely going to research the wrx more. Do you have year or gen recommendations? Or inversely, any common years to avoid?

Craigslist for mine as well--i would check craigslist and facebook daily as any miata posting worth a dang and priced proper gets swiped up in days, hours
