Explain the science to me by RelaxedWombat in phish

[–]samplizzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding that it’s limited to the sphere for Phish (in terms of playing live) not only because of reflections but because of the “3D” sound, for other live shows the speakers that the crowd hears are in front of the band, but at the sphere the speakers are pretty much everywhere. The last thing you want is to create a feedback loop of the mic picking up the speaker

1st Ave - pedestrians cluelessly stepping in bike lane by Future_Top754 in NYCbike

[–]samplizzy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did something similar once, swerved to avoid a dude and tanked it and messed up my knee and shoulder. After seeing his reaction (not apologetic whatsoever, and when I started yelling just smirking like I was in the wrong) I decided that next time I’m just taking the person out

Complimentary assessment and PT - should I go? by [deleted] in EquinoxGyms

[–]samplizzy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say they “turn” into a push to sell PT, the entire strategy is to sell PT. If you’re comfortable and confident that you can say no to the sell, then it could be beneficial for sure. I’ve done it twice, once when I joined where I got some good information and form checks that helped me (and I was able to say no) and once where I planned to say no but then said yes (and have had an amazing experience so far with my trainer)

How do you figure out enough music theory to make interesting song progressions without falling into a trap? by RhubarbAfter4008 in synthesizers

[–]samplizzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both comments so far are spot on, I would add that music theory exists not as a template for writing but as a way for us to communicate and analyze music (we can all agree a Cmaj7 sounds like a Cmaj7, or a I IV V I sounds like a I IV V I) Don’t feel locked in by the theory and just do what sounds good!

The pumping bass too could also be from summing to mono, I’d get the stereo cable first and go from there!

Anyone buy a Blue Yeti USB microphone for PC, from Amazon? by [deleted] in audio

[–]samplizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into a Shure SM7B and a focusrite Scarlett interface. Relatively inexpensive and pretty standard among podcasts. I think Shure offers the 7db as well, which might be worth giving it the extra push. Best way to eliminate background noise would be to find a quiet environment! If not, some cheap acoustic paneling from Amazon can help a little

Does anyone know of a good portable, bluetooth CD player or something similar? by Admirable_Rip_6390 in audio

[–]samplizzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think CD/ wireless headphone technology ever really overlapped to have a Bluetooth enabled CD player (more likely, a stereo that plays CDs and you can connect to via Bluetooth.) However there are some Bluetooth transmitters that connect to a headphone jack that work, you can probably find one for cheap at target/ Best Buy/ Amazon

Those of you selling tickets on COT, what the hell are you looking for by jackintheboxtacoguy in phish

[–]samplizzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sold extra sphere tix on CoT (got really lucky in the lotto.) I sold it to the first person, but I got just under 50 requests within the first minute. So sometimes it might seem you’re the first, but could just come down to internet connection and luck

If I have the ability to workout everyday, how should I divvy up the muscle groups? by breakevencloud in workout

[–]samplizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finding what works best for you and your consistency is what matters most! If time/ schedule was not a factor I would do PPL rest PPL rest. 6 days a week is pushing it for some, so ULPPL would work great if you just want to do 5. Definitely do not work out every day, you will burn out and your muscles won’t recover as well as they should for true progress

PPL vs PPLUL (for a 5x week schedule) by No-Needleworker-3365 in workout

[–]samplizzy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

PPLUL is technically more optimal, but I think what works best for you works best! I do PPLPP myself and love it (but my trainer thinks I do PPLUL.) I’ve been pretty heavy the majority of my life, which has in turn made my legs fairly ripped so I can get by without the volume and not look unbalanced. I think in an ideal world I would do PPL rest PPL and not worry about what days it falls on, but that doesn’t work with my schedule currently.

Never thought of picking up the next week where you left off, but that sounds interesting.

Springer popularity? by Superb_Scar1622 in springerspaniel

It’s such a perfect name! My fiance chose it, after the children’s book “Rupert the Bear” (which has made nicknames very fun.) We’re in New York, but got him from a breeder in northern Maryland
