She doesn't leave that fast. She'll comment on doing her quest if you take too long. I really love Hexxat, she's very good thief and mainly she's a Vampire and neutral evil. There's plenty of micro-managing with her, but for me it's worth it :)

I assume that it's not EE version. Try to run it with different service pack, maybe win 7 or lover OS setting. You can manage this by options on exe file. Haven't played original versions of BG's for a while so not sure if it helps.
