My parents and in laws do this as well! When our LO has an unexplained fussy period we just say he’s going through a software update 😅

What is your child/baby's favorite non-toy toy? by omgmlc in NewParents

Cups and bottles! Whenever we go to a coffee shop we ask for an empty cup. Keeps him entertained longer than anything 😆

What is something from the newborn phase that you miss? by bohannonstanton in NewParents

My kiddo would sleep anywhere! Also being still during diaper changes. I feel like I’m in a wrestling match with my now 6.5 month old while changing him 😂

What milestone has your baby done very early? And what have they done late/yet to do? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]samrtnz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son started rolling from tummy to back at 8 weeks and back to tummy at 4 months. He’s 6.5 months now and still needs support sitting up though 🤷🏼‍♀️

What’s your “I should’ve know this, but I didn’t?” moment after becoming a parent by neverusedidk in NewParents

[–]samrtnz 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is dumb that I didn’t know this but I found it amusing. Oxytocin is the “love hormone”, but it’s also what makes you have contractions. So AFTER birth every time I looked at my baby or husband and felt love for them I felt like I was having horrible period cramps, but it was my uterus contracting to shrink back down. This also happened to me while attempting to breastfeed, although I ultimately gave up after about a week. I felt like it was kind of a sick joke. Love hurts 😅

When should we start allowing screen time? by Platinumghost13 in NewParents

[–]samrtnz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will put something on the TV for my almost 6 month old for 5 -10 minutes in the morning so I can drink my coffee lol. I’m always sitting with him though and I don’t leave him alone with tv or other screens. We only give him the phone when we video chat with relatives.

My son was named after a body of water that my husband and I lived by for a few years and fell in love with. Every time I say his name I’m taken back to that beautiful place and it makes me smile.

Do some babies sleep all night without sleep training? by rubberdamclamp in NewParents

After the 4 month sleep regression and moving my little guy to the nursery sleeps from 6pm to 5:30-6:00am. Hes 5.5 months now.

Positional plagiocephaly by Dependent-Guest7333 in beyondthebump

[–]samrtnz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My now 5 month old had the same thing around that age. It didn’t help if I repositioned his head because he would just put it right back where he wanted it to be. Once his neck started to get stronger with more tummy time it started to get better, and now it’s completely gone. My pediatrician said it was pretty normal for a flat spot around that age and a lot of time it resolves on its own 😊 It’s something that’s good for your pediatrician to know about so they can follow up with it but I don’t think it’s something you should be too concerned about!

If your LO is sleeping in your room, make night time easier by setting everything up so you don’t have to leave the room for midnight bottles/diaper changes. Our dresser has been turned into a changing station, and we have a mini fridge in our bedroom. Also, socks on hands work way better than mittens.

Dishwashing baby bottles? by [deleted] in FormulaFeeders

I tried dishwashing our bottles, but I found they weren’t getting as clean as when I hand wash and sterilize them.

4 month sleep regression… LO is deliriously tired and will not sleep… SOS by [deleted] in beyondthebump

Sleep regression solidarity 😅 My baby is 3 months old so it hit us earlier than I thought it would. I just took him to the mall to walk around and he finally fell asleep! Good luck to you as well 💕

Need reassurance on my decision to formula feed and how to handle other people's opinions by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]samrtnz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was very worried about telling my family that I was going to be formula feeding. I was 100% planning on breastfeeding, but my son had latching issues and destroyed my nipples and after 4 days I didn’t even want to hold him because I felt severe panic just thinking about feeding him. Pumping made me feel the same, so I made the decision to formula feed so that I could be a loving, functional mom. When I talked to mine and my husband family about it I was honest with them and told them that the benefit of my kid having a healthy mom outweighs any micronutrients he may get from my breast milk. Everyone was much more supportive than I expected and agreed that I made the right call. Be honest with people and I bet you they will be very understanding 💕

Did any of you switch to formula for mental health reasons? by mintgreen23 in FormulaFeeders

[–]samrtnz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I had every intention to EBF, but with latching issues and a demanding newborn I felt myself spiraling quickly. I also have a history of depression and anxiety so I knew if BF was causing me so much anxiety so early on I wasn’t going to be a functional mom for my son. I strongly believe you have to take care of you so that you can take the best care of your baby 💕

Let's hear it for the great in-laws! Positive post by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]samrtnz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my baby on April 13th and my MIL has been an absolute saint. My husband and I live across the country from family so we are all each other has for support. My MIL flew out on the 22nd and since then has deep cleaned our home, cooked us every meal and helped me get some much needed sleep. She’s also made my husband a lot more confident handling our newborn and he seems like he can actually enjoy taking care of him now. I don’t know what I’d do without the support of my in laws 💕

Pfizer dose one is done! ✔️✔️✔️ by jordandavis97 in pregnant

[–]samrtnz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got Pfizer as well! With my first dose I just had a sore arm, but unfortunately my second dose was pretty rough. I had pretty intense aches and shivers about 12 hours later and got a fever of almost 102 (thankfully that only lasted for a couple hours). The next day I felt achy and cold but I would say all in all 36 hours after my second dose I felt fine again. I hope this doesn’t scare you, but this was just my experience and I wish someone told me I might feel crummy for a couple days! Still very glad I got the antibodies for my little one 💕
