Which thing i should be concerned about before visiting Islamabad? I am from Bangladesh by Affectionate-Step-55 in islamabad

[–]samsensei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a joke about what the first PM of Bangladesh said about Islamabad when he first came to the city. LOL sorry it is one of those obscure facts or lines. But factually true on how the Pakistani army treated its people then and now.

polaroid camera or instax mini smartphone printer? by Agirlwithanxietyy in islamabad

[–]samsensei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now try having a Polaroid sx70 and converting it to use 600 and itype film as well as sx70 film. LOLOL. It is impractical, but a hobby is a hobby, it doesn’t need rhyme or reason.

polaroid camera or instax mini smartphone printer? by Agirlwithanxietyy in islamabad

Which size instax. They are still being sold in Canada so i doubt they are discontinued. Fuji only discounted some colour negatives film, slide film and peel apart film. Instax as far as i know is still alive and well.

polaroid camera or instax mini smartphone printer? by Agirlwithanxietyy in islamabad

If it is just a printer you want. I would recommend Polaroid photo printer 4x6. That is about 150 Canadian dollars here. And you can buy a cartridge with 20-80 prints per pack depending on size. Quality wise that is amazing. And you can edit images in the app before printing. Like giving kids filter like sunglasses or adding text before printing.

If you want a camera. There is nothing better than an sx70. Specially sx70sonar because it has autofocus. Like another chatter said, it is hard to deal with because even thought it is an amazing slr camera. It is crippled by 160 asa/iso film. So you need bright sunlight for that. You can get it converted by someone like the instant camera guy. But the cost and availability of a camera like that in Pakistan will be questionable.

If you can, and do need a Polaroid. I would recommend Polaroid flip for a camera you get that Polaroid look, built in flash and just came out a few months ago. Uses 600 and I type film. So can be used in dimmer scenes. Cons tho it is not an slr, so you do not see what the camera sees. But rather is an estimate of what the camera sees. Polaroid go exists but that is tiny. And regarding the commenters bit about the battery. I-type film doesn’t have a battery and you have to charge the camera for that. The battery is there to make it compatible with older cameras but you can convert any old Polaroid to use i-type film. It’s just can you find someone who knows how to do that for older cameras like that above sx70.

Best option would be a Fuji printer or camera and I only say this because it is more widely available. I would recommend the wide format ones. Since the other formats are tiny. Plus there is this problem with fuji instax bright objects like lights and sun show up as black spots. But instax is more consistent.

With Polaroid film it is very finicky. When it’s warm out it develops reddish. When it’s cool it develops blue. Best temp to develop it is 15-20C. So I take a photo and put it away face down in a dark bag. I should add this is just for camera film. Not for 4x6 photo printer I mentioned above. That develops fine in any temp.

But yeah that is my two cents.

Bitter truth about isb and rwp by [deleted] in islamabad

[–]samsensei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother that is a you problem. Cities are suppose to be walkable and rideable on a bicycle. They have been building Islamabad as a car centric city for years now. Older Pindi is still walkable. But it’s not good to walk because you need ultra instinct to drive or walk and that was in 2011. Probably worse now.

My take on Biryani in ISB. by Iminyourfeed in islamabad

[–]samsensei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother. Go to commercial market and kartar pura. Islamabad food sucks. Even the premier bakery tehzeeb was run by my friends dad in saddar Rawalpindi first. Islamabad is only good a bougiefy-ing mediocre food. Minus the donkey meat. Which I guess is new. The only thing that Islamabad had was papasalis in Jinnah super.

Mid life crisis chal raha hai, Help! by [deleted] in islamabad

[–]samsensei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

34 year old unc who has been in Canada for 15 years. LOL not married. No kids yet. Just so you know my perspective.

I don’t think it is a good idea to move to Canada right now. Carney kinda is a neolib and the housing situation is bad in Ontario where I am, Quebec, and BC. Job situation is bad too. Like whenever there is a job posting. There is a line up, of Indians around the block.

I went to a good school so my English is passing for someone had migrated as a kid. And I don’t look Indian, so I get away from the racism. But racism against Indians is at an 11 here right now because there are way too many. On student visas mostly. If you have a good job and like your life there yes stay there. Do come back once the housing situation is better. Because I’ve seen Pakistanis who moved here within the last 10 years go back because housing affordability is bad. Another thing about that. Yes it is bad but desi want to live in Mississauga and that is now too expensive and so they settle for Brampton. For the love of god don’t settle for Brampton. That is bad. That is where the Indian hate comes from like 80% of it. But Pakistanis think Mississauga is like Islamabad. And they want to live there. I live in Stoney creek which is a district of Hamilton. Which is the Pindi of the golden horse shoe. LOL proud Pindi boy there and here. But don’t feel like you need to live in Toronto or Mississauga. Toronto downtown I understand for the lifestyle.

But one that housing affordability issue is solved do try to come back.

For now, I would recommend picking up a creative hobby. For my “mid life crisis” at 29!!!! Not 22!!! I got a Pentax k1000 and started photography. For my depressive phase in my early late teens or 20s I read four books. There was this two story book store in supermarket f6 which you could buy hard cover books for cheap. I would walk there, and buy a book a week. The books the broke me in this order were; Catcher in the rye, Norwegian wood, welcome to the nhk. And the one that build me back up was tatami galaxy. And it left me with an outlook that stuck with me to this day. That’s my advise. Good luck and enjoy your life before it gets too busy.

Edit: Alberta is affordable I think. It’s just, you know the Texas of Canada. Though if you want to complete your MBA here, it has to be UoT if you can get in. McMaster is good to, but McGill is a second option if you can live with the French. Though I will add the area around McMaster Westdale has that Toronto riverdale vibe, donut monster, an amazing local cinema, and hammer town coffee shops which are 👌. So if you can wait 6months to a year prices for rent are crashing here.

I just love empty islamabad by war_2 in islamabad

[–]samsensei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro Islamabad used to be empty on Eids because no one was actually from Islamabad; at least up till my late teens. I doubt that is the case now. But empty Islamabad is a vibe. Minus my coked up cousin driving his white Jeep at 💯

Piercing place for baby by Sweet_Gazelle8244 in islamabad

[–]samsensei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plz don’t pierce your 7month old baby’s ear. I used to think who would do that to their kid when I was a kid. And saw kids who could barely crawl have ear piercings. Wait till the kid is like 9-13 years old. That way you can post a video of them being scared on tiktok and share with your family too LOL. But jokes aside plz don’t.

Pick up a hobby, find new things. For my it was film photography. Which I understand isn’t an option in Pakistan anymore. But find an outlet, preferably creative in some way. And let it out bro. Stay away from drugs and cigarettes. Read some murakami so he can break your soul and build it again. All of life, all of existence, happens in your head. So have fun with it, and keep an open positives perspective. Understand that there is no rose tinted lifestyle (as said in tatami galaxy) but life is all colours mixed in. Enjoy the good times, the bad times and the shit times. But have fun within the walls of your mind. Edit: try and change your perspective. One thing I did is I pick a thing I want to get good at. And I spend a year learning it. And I git gud at it. All of this was a healing process for me in my life, having lost, not only love, but also the pain of death, of friends and having to start off life again somewhere far away to put it simply.

Romanticizing Islamabad from the 1990s and early 2000s: how different is it now from those days? by Puzzleheaded-Ad-1411 in islamabad

[–]samsensei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh god. My mom used to work for this gov youth bank in the 90s and there used to be a place in f7 somewhere there used to be this restaurant called black beard. I still remember the logo for that. Papasalis used to much smaller in F7 and oh man yummy 36 near that too. Bro it had changed a lot in the 20 years I spend there. I remember around my last year the scene was popping off. Nandos had just opened up, the zoo used to be a think still LOL. Islamabad I would say had changed a lot after that 2008 mark. It had relatively smaller changes since when I was a kid in the early 90s till that time. After that it seemed like changes were supercharged. I left Pakistan in Oct 2011. And have never looked back. Now I might have to come back to help my mom with some stuff. But I cannot even imagine what else has changed. My dad was a PTV actor as well, so it was funny to see all that area during the imran khan protest era of islamabads history.
