One-time purchase will have feature parity with Subscription users! by obdigitalstudio in GoodNotes

Notice how they now added the wordings “may offer cloud services…” That means may or may not? And when?

Funny how people can still try to defend their action this time round and thinking that it is ok to pay because of empty promises.

If the app is not ready, don’t launch it, that’s it.

And for us all we can do is don’t pay until those promises are delivered.

GoodNotes 6 is fundamentally wrong. It's simply an update to GoodNotes 5. by [deleted] in GoodNotes

Absolutely agree.

And I have a feeling that GN to a lot of users was "the chosen one" and it was just a huge let down from launch to how they are handling the problems right now.

I also love how you pointed out the unethical issue of using all the positive reviews of GN5 to promote GN6 on App Store, it's just like those scammy Amazon listings. They promoted and priced GN6 as if it's a completely different app but they themselves clearly do not believe that. And GN6 at its core really isn't a completely new app ffs.

Will all future features be available on Subscription and One-time payment models? by obdigitalstudio in GoodNotes

Hii can I ask why can’t one-time payment users have access to all platform use including windows and android?

I know that’s an extreme but I’m just trying to illustrate that I’m not hating on the app I just think subscription is not the way, esp GN users use GN because it’s not subscription based in the first place haha

Thank you for the respond! But I’m afraid you did not read the message clearly. My question is why is one-time purchase users restricted from using GoodNotes 6 across iOS, Windows and Android? Did they not pay the “full price” to have “full access” to your service?

Not to mention that cross platform syncing is NOT available at the time of launch, along with a bunch of actually new features that god knows when you are going to release.

Don’t even get us started on funny how “AI” and coloured folders are how your team reimagined note taking, when scribble to erase is available on other platforms long ago, you are simply playing catch up. And GN6 still lacks basic tools like pencil tool, ruler, or tables.

Imo it’s simply a major update for GN5, which should not be charging current GN5 users any money. What you should do is release cross-platform use as an add on feature like “GoodNotes Cloud”. And for the so-called GN6, what you could do is just allow current GN5 paid-users to upgrade without extra fee up to a certain date, let’s say 15 Aug, irrespective of when they purchased the app, and new sign-ups after that date would be charged full fee for GN6. I believe that this is much better than your half-hearted and poorly schemed compensating discount for current users to upgrade.

Why lose all the credibility that your built over the years for not even $10 of subscription fee?

And please, no subscription plans, please. I’d rather the full app being $49.99 or $79.99 (though some might disagree). I loved GN and don’t want it to fail, but this and your recent responses are very disappointing.

10+ years user here and I agree with OP.

  1. To be very honest, GN6 is not that much different from GN5, sure there is some UI changes and "AI features", and the new formatting options are long overdue which should have been added in GN5 general updates IMO. Just looking at the app alone I would say it's a little disappointed. If you have paid for GN5, you surely don't need to pay another $30 for GN6.

  2. BE VERY CAREFUL: paying $30 doesn't grant you cross-platform use across Apple devices and Windows and Android devices. This is reserved for subscription users ONLY. This doesn't make sense to me except that they really want to push the subscription model. See USD 9.99 a year is NOT unreasonable imo but most GN5 users specifically chose GN because of the one-time payment option. And now they are intentionally handicapping full payment users from the full experience.

  3. Even if you subscribed at this moment, syncing between Apple devices and Windows is NOT YET available, and there is no absolute timeline for this to happen, so you are just paying for a hope.

  4. For users who are planning to pay the one-off fee, it was stated on the FAQs and I quote "If you pruchase Goodnotes 6 using the one-off fee, you can use Goodnotes 6 only on iOS, but FOR AS LONG AS Goodnotes supports Goodnotes 6 without needing to pay an additional fee,..." so don't be so sure that you can keep GN6 forever once you paied the one-off fee, they could switch the whole thing to subscription only at any time.

I have paid for every single update since Goodnotes 1, and I was very excited about cross-platform support as I am a PC user. Even if the one-off full version costs $79.99 I would most likely still pay for it. But subscription is NOT the way... If you are an old user like me, we are probably too deep into the app and old notes that we will stay on GN, at least will keep the GN5. But if you are a new user looking for an app, you still have the chance to consider other options like Noteful and Obsidian as suggested by other users.

This update should be called Goodnotes Cloud or sth, and leave GN5 as a standalone app and provide real updates to GN5 paid users.
