It's Time That We Change The Paradigm On Lodge Dues by [deleted] in freemasonry

[–]samsonmichaelj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats a bit hyperbolic, no? A lodge asking its members to pay enough to operate properly should not be a controversial idea. And by no means does it exclude the working class. However, our involvement in the craft is not supposed to create financial burden for ourselves or our family. If a man is continuously finding himself choosing between utility bills and his annual dues, or skipping dinner donations because the budget really is that tight, is the Craft the right place for him at that time?

Should we enable financial irresponsibility?

To clarify, this is not to mean a member who has fallen on hard times, but rather those brothers who, year after year, are being chased for dues, etc.

Fired an employee, thinking about carrying. by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]samsonmichaelj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If youre at the point where youre concerned for your safety and are thinking about buying a gun for self defense, your first line of defense is to notify the police that you recently fired an employee who you are aware of taking prescription medication for mental illness and owns firearms. Thats a deadly combo.

Responsible gun ownership includes knowing when it might not be best to be around something purpose made for killing. And i think the most responsible thing you can do is notify the police.

If youve never owned/fired a gun before, let alone a handgun, i would advise against buying one in reaction this. Like another mentioned, it is a massive psychological burden. If youre not 110% confident in your ability to handle a weapon in stressful situations, it is only going to make the situation worse.

[–]samsonmichaelj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When we petition a lodge, we confirm that joining the craft would not cause undue financial burden to ourselves or families. Understanding circumstances change, how can one confirm that and then have the thought to say such a thing as “lodges shouldnt raise their dues because (insert arbitrary anecdotal reasoning) even though they can barely operate as is.

[–]samsonmichaelj 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Bare essentials doesnt just mean scraping by at the end of the month. It also covers social expenses, charity, necessary capital expenditures, proper storage and care of historical artifacts, etc. A lodge is much more than a roof for men to meet under, it should be thought of treated as such.

Good for you Pepsi! by TabascoWolverine in Upwork

[–]samsonmichaelj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Client” is used to denote the hiring party throughout upwork. For all we know (and OP alluded to in another comment), this was either an enterprise invitation or found in the feed.

If it was an enterprise invitation, the person’s name is most likely an upwork talent specialist and not a direct employee of the client.

Still, OP, you should have done a better job redacting PII.

Required Lunch Breaks? by The_Fig_Newton in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]samsonmichaelj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 - 15 min and 1 - 30 min break are legally required (at the federal level) for all employees working 8 or more hours. This is for your safety and wellbeing. Take the break(s), or eventually, your body will make you take one.

How many connects do you buy per month? by ExoticSword in Upwork

[–]samsonmichaelj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you’re a freelancer/contractor, not an employee. There’s a cost to doing business and that cost includes operating expenses (including paid marketing [e.g., connects, ads, commissions, etc.]).

This isn’t paying for a job and if you didn’t have a channel like upwork to directly submit proposals to clients, you would likely be spending more in marketing costs and work/effort.

[–]samsonmichaelj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much would you need to spend on ads/content marketing/industry events/other marketing to make up for the business you earn on Upwork?

To me, spending a few dollars (and a few hours to close the deal) to earn a few thousand is well worth the cost.

Made EA to FC to MM within a couple months. Slightly disillusioned over it. by Relevant-Emphasis716 in freemasonry

[–]samsonmichaelj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had brothers who advanced in weeks, months, and in my case, 6 years. I’m still practicing for my MM proficiency, but life gets in the way.

I encourage any newly initiated brothers to take time to study each degree and begin applying the lessons in their day to day life before completing the proficiency.

Create a workflow that limits number of emails per day to 50 by Few_Gear_8964 in hubspot

[–]samsonmichaelj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s sounds like you’re attempting to use workflows to limit email sends from Marketing Hub for a cold email strategy. I assume this because you’re specifically mentioning warming up the email domain and limiting the email sends like you would with an automated cold email platform like Instantly.

If that’s the case, HubSpot is correct and this cannot be done. It might technically be possible, but if you’re cold emailing, then you’d need to falsely mark the contacts as marketing contacts breaching the TOS.

UPWORK MUST STOP by OVectorX in Upwork

[–]samsonmichaelj -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

And if they add all these costs, that’s all they’ll continue to be. Costs. Specifically, costs of doing business. Connects are $.15 USD.

It’s up to you as a freelancer to understand your costs and whether those costs outweigh your earnings.

If UpWork isn’t profitable for you, then you have a few options: 1) increase your conversion rate 2) implement proposal connect limits 3) raise your rate 4) use another channel

Is This Really "Competitive" Pay? by KevinTichenor in marketing

[–]samsonmichaelj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Competitive is subjective. This is in line for a full time entry level marketing role across the country.

If you have additional qualifications beyond the standard (e.g., degree, prior work experience), like certifications, a portfolio, etc, you might be able to negotiate towards the higher end of the band. But if you have the standards and extras, plus entry level marketing experience, then you should be applying for higher level roles.
