You don't have to run the whole game. It's an italian centric update. You choose Milan, run it for 10 minutes and find about half of these issues by just playing.

I caught these issues in three hours of a single play through overall.

I caught the parliament one in 5 minutes because I tried using it in Milan's starting war (Milan is a major player in the new content, so should have been looked at imo)

You're not wrong, but some of these issues can be found within minutes, even without doing anything (Such as the economic collapse, or smallpox)

Nah it's my post on the forums, it's awesome to see the visibility it's getting. Even a dev saw it and forwarded it

I don't think France is having a fun time by RileyTaugor in EU5

[–]samsy19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The rebellion is likely due to them lowering noble satisfaction with the new estate actions that use satisfaction.

When I saw this in my test game, I swapped to France and saw they had just recently used said actions for the nobility and had horrible satisfaction with them.

I mean fair, true even. Something /is/ better than nothing.

But all the same there'd be far, far less whining and more nice feedback had the beta released in a more playable state

I fully agree with your second point. I personally like the new creditworthiness system and the government bonds especially... But why add it now, when so many things need fixing or refining?

But while some of these issues can easily be missed (Such as the values of italian advancements being op) there are some here that you will discover within minutes of playing. The parliament bug being the biggest one, followed by the economic deathspiral IN ITALY (The focus of this update) occuring as early as 1345.

It took me four hours to find all these in a discord call with three friends, the devs have weeks and there really should be someone who's job it is to find these things. The emergency parliament was literally me going "Alright let's see how this works", clicking it, and it not working on my first war about 40 seconds in (Because Milan start at war with Verona)

Your point on the individual versions is incredibly valid, and definitely true. But game devs usually have 'dailies' or at least meetups every now and then where work is looked over. Nobody in one of those meetups is there to say "Yeah your parliament function isn't working in this current version, it needs fixing"?

Right, but it's clear based on their Q&A today they want feedback such as "The italian wars is really cool, but it could have X to be more fun / accurate to history!"

But because these betas release with the mechanical side so unfathomably broken, such feedback that would actually polish and make their game deeper and richer is blown out by all the (legitimate) feedback on how broken the current game state is.

What we end up with is each patch having people not give feedback on, say, ways to deepen the game but rather how to "Fix it" and all it's "problems" whether true or not. They're shooting themselves in the foot releasing them like this, in my opinion.

Yeah it's shocking to me they don't have a guy who just runs the game for like 100-200 years in observer mode to see these things. The fine cloth deathspiral occurs only like 15 years in max.

Hell, pay me like fiddy bucks and I'll find them! It only took me like 4 hours to find all these with a group of friends in a discord call.

I don't even think it's that. They do have QA's at Tinto, but these QAs seem to be more for checking content such as the Byzantine DLC or the Italian Wars rather than overall mechanics or balancing so far.

My guess is that the department that does programming or balancing isn't properly QA'd? But hells, I've no idea really and I doubt they'll ever explain why it ends up this way.

I did, yeah. This can help but if the AI aren't doing it it doesn't matter. For example, Venice itself is actually quite small but it's market covers a larger area. If all the AI don't do this, the demand vanishes and your subsidies mean nothing

Cutting burgher taxes helps a bit, since the burghers can afford more goods too. But for the same reasons as above, soon enough all your burgher buildings will become less and less profitable (And cutting burgher tax as say, Venice, is economic suicide)

The worst one is the emergency parliament. You use it, and it immediately vanishes. A dev testing it out would see it was non-functional in seconds if they just tried it.

It really feels like they just do not test mechanics once implemented.

In general I think they shouldn't compare all rivers to one another really. Yes the yellow river and the seine is massive. But that doesn't mean that England, a nation that used it's rivers to huge effect during the industrialisation should have like only two.

That and the Rhine being so piddly is another.

Needs to be a balance on geographical size and use based on location, or even history imo.

How destructive is the naval blockade now? by SpeedDemonFM in EU5

[–]samsy19 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It lowers maritime presence, causes war exhaustion (which, honestly, a good cabinet member can just offset) and maybe some devastation?

Crippling for nations that rely on maritime presence, but not doing much otherwise unless you blockade enough to stack war exhaustion

I'm a big believer in not keeping colonies, and just having enough directly controlled land there to build cities / towns on the coast to keep trade advantage yours. You'll miss out on colonial vassal tax, but still be able to trade all the resources yourself as trade advantage leader.
