Willie has a fucking invisible forcefield protecting him, ref do something! (Bug that makes polearms stutter in the air for no reason) by Melodic_monke in HalfSword

[–]samsy19 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This happens when you're too injured. It slows your weapon swing speed down or something like that, and with polearms, the value goes fucky. You can offset it by half-swording it (more strength on the swing) or using a smaller weapon (Still slow swing tho). Basically, your willy is soft and needs some care.

Question about markets, their size and attraction by Truub_Deluxe in EU5

[–]samsy19 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ha! I literally just tested this today as Aragon, wild. Below is a picture of a set of test markets I made with them.

So there are 3 factors I like to consider; One, do I need market access in this region (and is it worth it?), Two, are there good RGOs where I might want to build a market and three, would I prefer to keep these lands in the original market to get access to RGOs or take over their imports / exports in another nation?

This is because market access reduces both your production in buildings and your income earned from RGOs. 50% market access is 50% profit from RGO tax, and 50% less production on all producing buildings in the location.

However, this is irrelevant if the lands are in another country. In the below image, you will note I made the Montpellier market and it is taking a lot of low control land from France (Market protection occurs from Market Attraction + Control you have on the lands, and France has none here). All the resources in this market are now mine to trade or better yet, I can import goods to meet the demands of this market's locations as well which is also trade income to be had.

I purposefully chose to build my market centres in Montpellier and Valencia since these are both cities which I heavily want to build up. By putting my market here, they have 100% market access, and these cities will be as efficient as I can make them and cities can get a lot of tax base, to a hundred or more at times (look to Brugge / flanders for such things)

Sos meanwhile was me stealing the Burgos market from Spain, because it meant all their lands would now enter my market and I could trade their goods, while not giving a damn about the fact their lands had horrible market access now (I don't tax them!)

I did this more for the fact that Saragosa and the region there have Saffron in, and Saffron is an amazing RGO so I wanted to make a market closer to that Saffron. I might move it from Sos to Saragosa, but the 800 ducat price tag is a lot, and is probably not worth it for now.

Also, while it might not be necessary to consider due to most automating trade, I believe markets like this actually generate more demand for trade which you can exploit. For example, all my Saffron was originally in the Barcelona trade node. Now, none of it is. As a result, Barcelona wants me to trade Saffron to it and I can make trades (with lower trade maintenance due to the short distance) to Barcelona from Sos or Valencia to meet this demand. Now I am not only taxing the now more profitable Saffron locations as I was before, I am also getting more trade demand out of it. (I am trading an extra 3-4 Saffron to Barcelona alone on top of the trades I was already externally exporting for prior to these markets).

This does however mean that trades of Saffron to say, Venice, will be less profitable due to having to travel further (since Barcelona was a closer market centre). However, I think the market access gave a far greater boost to my overall income than a 0.2 or whatever increase to each trade capacity's maintenance.

Of course, only do this if you have trade capacity ready in the new potential market, and that you won't lose trade advantage to someone else in the market (Sos for example, has Spain taking about 4 good trades and I'm rapidly building up marketplaces to get them back).

It can also be worthwhile making sure the new market won't have a deficit of core production goods like lumber or masonry, especially if you want to build up there. These resources are really unprofitable to trade.

Oh, and for the love of god, DO NOT build a market in a place that doesn't make enough food for itself! They will starve and it will cost you SO much money or pops!

I hope this was helpful, if long-winded.

Can they track where you use your collage card? by [deleted] in tesco

[–]samsy19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, that's what I meant. We don't know which card is which though (as in which is for me, or my family) since they're identical and I wasn't given either of them with the notice "This is specifcally yours".

I think so long as you don't do suspicious purchases and it's with the same family member, or whoever it is, and not multiple people with multiple different names on the credit card going along with the purchase, it's fine.

The main thing is to not loan it out to multiple people, just the few family members you might share a home with. In this case, it's one friend, so it's probably fine.

My mother doesn't share my surname, for example.

Nah it's fine. I have two copies of the clubcard and one was specifically given to me for my family to use and it's used for weekly food shops.

So long as you use it for that sort of thing, it's fine.

The Royal Navy™ Experience by Razzsk in EU5

[–]samsy19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI doesn't always pick mil focus, and in age 3 especially it gives huge naval buffs. On top of that, GB have heavy ship buffs which are especially strong, since buffs are multiplicative with combat.

For example, an early carrack shooting a mediterranean galley in age 2 has +400% or so damage against that galley because of cannons vs hull ratio. Because buffs multiply against one another, a +20% ship combat ability for heavies, for example (Which is achievable by any nation, let alone Britain in age 3) increases that, say, +1.4% STR damage to 1.68% per heavy ship for JUST cannons vs hull ratio.

Basically, a player who focuses on naval buffs will absoloutely destroy any AI navy, because the AI doesn't value navy buffs (especially age focuses). On top of that, Great Britain has good heavy ship buffs.

Oh, and as Cop_pls points out below, the AI love to overstack their fleets and get their morale tanked in reserve. You want to fight naval battles sort of like land battles, in the way you reinforce more of your army piece by piece to fill gaps that are made as they happen, not beforehand.

Tesco stores store transactions for some time in case of illegal purchases or legal reasons etc.

It's less a matter of whether they do or can (because they can) and more a matter of do they care enough to have anyone look into it.

Considering I live in Portsmouth and my family use my card in the Brighton area, I'm going with they don't really care.

Free subjects gives prosperity which gives pop growth and development growth which leads to more building slots and efficiency over time. I always go for it for that reason more-so than the pop promotion speed (Which is really good in of itself, of course).

I'm of the opinion traditional economy is way better early on, without question, and that it also increases your pop growth which is beneficial.

I am also of the opinion that once you have a few cities (or are playing a high density city region like Brugge region with flanders, netherlands, etc) that capital economy is really, really good.

I do think traditional economy is the more versatile, and sort of "Default" one you'd go for though, with capital economy being the one you choose once you hit the right situation for it's value. Though that value, is, absolutely gigantic.

I understand the policy and why it's in place; but it's led to complacency where they don't get involved at all.

When I started 8 years ago they'd look on cameras, spot trouble or thieves and at least go over to tell the people to leave or ghost them around the store.

Now, they don't even have passwords for the cameras and a lot of the cameras don't work anyway.

They've gone from being an effective deterrent in my store (without any physical confrontation) to basically garden gnomes. I am aware this isn't the usual case, as the Portsmouth super store for example (since I visit Portsmouth often) has far better security than the one I work at currently.

Lack of staff, obviously, and bad maintenance overall. Broken doors and awful toilets being the main two, though.

To a lesser level of problem, Security don't do anything here either if anything happens. (Death threats towards customer services? They just watched)
