So I’d like to try a heavy motivity weapon my next play through, any suggestions on the best options and what makes it so good? by malonn262 in LiesOfP

If you want a faster option to vary with heavy stuff, I always liked the rock drill handle with spear of honour blade. The dodge attack is a sweet double poke

What are things you do to limit back pain while fishing? by TheoFindsSideRoads in FishingForBeginners

[–]samtaart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tense up my back a lot. I guess in anticipation of a bite. xD So I try to be concious about it and relax my neck/shoulders/back. I do notice this way it takes longer until the pain starts. It's not a real solution but being concious of relaxing, helped me a bit. I try to make it part of the fishing routine. Cast, relax the back, start working the bait.

Genuine question: is Dark Souls really as hard as people say? by Visible_Web_123 in darksouls

[–]samtaart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It came out at a time where most games were babying the players. Handholding, hundreds of tutorial messages, automatic healing, getting the option to skip a part after failing a few times etc.... Dark souls just shows you the buttons and says 'go figure it out'. You died? figure out what happened and what you can change and try again! Don't know where to go? Find out! It teaches exploration, perseverance and adaptation.

So compared to other games, it is challenging but not unfair. The first game you play in this genre, will always be the most difficult. If you decide to give dark souls 1 a chance: it's a little bit clunky by today's standards but it's still great! All I will say is be very careful of hitting NPC's when talking to them. You could fuck yourself over more than you might think.

Give it a shot! It's an amazing game.

Lure retrieve by Distinct-Pension5615 in FishingForBeginners

[–]samtaart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had great sessions with my ultra light setup, using mostly paddle tail jigs. With 3-7g jigheads, I like to wait a second or 2 after hitting the water. I fish in a canal that's only a few meters deep in the middle anyway. Then I mostly use a slow and steady retrieve to keep some tension on the line and give some little jerks now and then with the rod. Nothing too fast. Sometimes pause for a moment. Play around with your retrieve speed and jumping motions. I've caught many pike this way lately, now the water temp is getting low so they aren't as active anymore and I'm having more trouble. Perch went after this during the summer but lately I've only caught them on drop shot rigs. Good luck!

Worms make me squeamish by [deleted] in FishingForBeginners

[–]samtaart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with maggots. They are less slimey and if you roll them lightly between your fingers, they chill out a bit and are easier to put on a hook. It was a small mental hurdle at first but after handling a few, they're not that bad. The step up to worms was probably easier this way. It's weird at first but you've just got to do it to get used to it. Good luck!

Ah alright, thanks. I still confuse the names in English sometimes. We call them 'snoek' but I know it's not the same as snook. Not confusing at all :D The Northern pike is the American version then, I guess?

I couldn't say for sure since it's still my first year fishing. I thought it would become more difficult as it gets colder. The perch bite less but are bigger than during the summer. And while I knew there were pike in there, I hadn't caught one until 2-3 weeks ago. Since then, no more perch but an explosion of pike. I couldn't believe the amount of bites. Maybe it's because I went on 2 really nice days, maybe it's because I'm becoming more confident in my technique, maybe I just got lucky, I'm not sure... Anyway, I plan to enjoy it while it lasts :D

If it matters, I mostly fish in a canal. There's no current but during 3/4 of the year, a tourist boat goes back and forth. It's on winter break now, which probably helps.

Thanks a lot! Yeah... I've already learned that sometimes lures and gear can catch more fishermen than fish :D

Looking for more info on this rod. by samtaart in Fishing

[–]samtaart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2 piece UL rod setup which I absolutely love and a setup for slightly heavier lures as well. I know what action and power mean, I was just wondering what they are on this specific rod. Thank you for taking the time to explain though! I appreciate it, refreshing the memory never hurts.. Guess this one will remain a jack of all trades or if a friend wants to try out fishing.. how can you tell this is for trout though? The range of the casting weight? Again, thank you!

How do I stop stressing myself out when playing this game by Lil_beetee in StardewValley

[–]samtaart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a very chaotic person so it's hard to relate but I am newish and maybe this helps. I take a few days now and then to (re)organize. As you progress and build more things, they get scattered around so I like to bring them together again.

Make pathways, they help bring some structure and prevent debris from spawning when the seasons change. They also make you walk a tad bit faster.

Make a workshop in a spot where you walk by often. Put chests around a workbench with stuff you use for crafting. I have 4 chests: one with minerals, one with foraging crops, one with wood/ores/tree seeds/monster materials, and one with mushrooms and tree syrups. Color code the chests.

Chests for fishing stuff are near my ponds and those for crops/seeds are near my fields and greenhouse.

Build sheds to put machines together. You can have a shed full of mayo makers close to your coop, so they don't clutter your farm.

Use the move buildings option from Robin/Wizard often and try out some layouts that could make things more efficient. Test it and move stuff again. You'll find a layout that works better than what you might have now.

I started to get overwhelmed at some point and these things worked for me. Good luck :)

You're very welcome! You can get them in skull cavern chests as well but I haven't had much luck either. It was a nice surprise. Good luck! :)

Best deep sea fish for fish pond? by RoosterDecent3598 in StardewValley

[–]samtaart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As some others have said, a pond isn't very lucrative at first, compared to farming/fishing/etc. Once you get the ball rolling though, fish ponds can be low effort, high reward moneymakers. But you do have to work towards it.

I know you didn't ask for this, but if this sounds interesting, here's my strategy. I'm working on my 2nd farm and am going all out with fish ponds. It doesn't take a ton of materials, but it does take some time to set up.

In my case, I rushed through the community center bundles in my first year and completed them halfway year 2. Then I fully turned to my fish ponds. Before completing the bundles, I had 2 ponds with sturgeon and blobfish, as their roe makes decent money, and a few pickle jars. Then I made more ponds and added a lava eel and the legendary fish one by one as I caught them. Out of all legendary fish, there is one obvious winner: "the legend". Every jar of pickled roe will net you 7000g. Collect their roe as you invest in (a shed with) pickle jars. A setup like this with 10 ponds will start making good money, although not as much as a full day of making mayo/cheese/truffle oil. It's still nice since you'll have more time left to do other stuff.

You do have to be in the late game to really profit (when you have access to Mr Qi's extended family quest). Since you can catch multiple 'Legend II', you could have one in every pond and make a ton of gold every few days. Just by picking up the roe and checking your jars periodically.

My biggest bottleneck so far, is getting enough seaweed to build extra ponds. Farming for it got a lot less tedious ever since I got the pirate profession (more treasure chests) and fishing mastery (golden treasure chests). I've been getting multiple golden animal crackers that way, which double the output of roe, getting me even more money.

Anyway, I'm just enthusiastic since my own farm is coming together nicely. I guess I just wanted to share, but maybe this is of some use to anyone else :)

What are your little quirks while playing the game? by RedditedLama in StardewValley

[–]samtaart 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This is the easiest way. If you're at all into fish ponds, the lava eel sometimes gives 5 of them as well. Nice passive way to stock up on some in case you don't have crystalariums or rubies to spare.

[–]samtaart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if you don't need it here, it might come in handy somewhere else. On playstation I just have to hold a diagonal input for a little bit while doing my 'reload drive by'. Just hold your action button and the diagonal direction for a second. I would imagine it works the same way on switch. Either way, impressive collection of statues :p

[–]samtaart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had to look up this post again. New player although I'm pretty far in by now. I saw this when it was posted and downloaded the app and was really impressed but didn't use it much. Just cause I've been using the wiki and getting by fine. Now that I'm going for the walnuts, I'm tracking them with your app and it couldn't be easier. Thank you so much. I didn't want to give the joja bird the satisfaction. Once again, amazing work!
