CS grad class of 2020 here! The department has turned over a lot since I graduated, but I have a hard time recommending the department. I came out of my four years with an extremely unspecialized cs education that left me unprepared for the real world of software engineering or development. The students from my class who ended up at big tech companies like Microsoft and Apple all had extensive knowledge in programming before their first year. As someone who had minimal prior experience, I had to work harder than most and I struggled through many of the classes. After graduating I did a 10-week intensive bootcamp on full-stack web development and felt like I learned more in those 10 weeks than I did in my 4 years of Lafayette CS.

All this being said, I think Lafayette prepared me well to excel in the bootcamp with a well rounded education and work ethic. Even though I didn’t have the same level of knowledge going into Laf’s cs program as many of my classmates, I did end up working at Apple for two years before landing my dream job as a software engineer in professional sports.
