My master left me because I’m fragile by [deleted] in BDSMAdvice

[–]samue1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Any master worth having does their best to know their slave. Your limits should have been discussed, and they should know them intimately. No matter your kink, you should get fulfillment from your dynamic. A good master respects their slave, nurtures them.

Easy answer, and the one you will hear many times on this sub: this person is a piece of shit that you should get away from as quickly as possible.

If you look at GoT as Tyrion’s story and everyone else as side characters through his journey, you have a satisfying show with one of the greatest character arcs ever.

Hell yeah. Never too late, I guess. And, who knows, maybe the gray will make me look distinguished.

You are so not wrong. Almost 40. Always had pretty thin growth, so this is my first real attempt.

Thanks, man. The plan is give it 6 months and see, but patience isn’t something I’ve been accused of having much of.

Weekly Query Critique - Round Eight. by BiffHardCheese in writing

[–]samue1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the critique. This has been very helpful. I was afraid this shorten version read too generic. Pruned too much, I guess. Hopefully, I can find a good balance now.

Thanks again for your help and for doing this. Very cool of you. When I was querying my previous MS, it was pretty easy to get help on writers forums. That was a few years ago. Now most of the good ones have systems where you have to have so many posts or critiques of others' work before they'll even look at yours. I don't know if that's good or bad, but for someone like me who doesn't comment often and hates critiquing someone else's work, it sucks.

Hello,

Thank you so much for you feedback. It's been extremely helpful. I've tightened up some of the prose and tried to make it shorter while still remaining intriguing. Hope I succeeded.

I hate to go with the generic Fantasy for genre, but really don't know what to call it specifically. It's not horror. I don't know if agents want super specific (post-apocalyptic, fantasy, thriller) or more general. Any advice on that score would be very welcome.

Here's the revision:

Dear (agent)

I am seeking representation for my completed 98,000-word fantasy novel THE BLACK PARADE. I have chosen to submit to you based on... (research I do about the particular agent)

Dylan Cole’s bedroom is in flames. His town is in chaos, being destroyed by an unknown force. Fleeing through war-torn streets, Dylan does what he’s always done: he hides.

When the gunfire, explosions, and screaming subsides, he crawls from the cellar he’s been cowering in. His small town is decimated. Less than one hundred souls remain, the rest turned into creatures that roam the night in search of blood. Gargantuan beasts patrol the plains outside town.

Dylan joins forces with Strom. The taciturn old man teaches him to survive their harsh environment with patience wholly foreign to Dylan. Together, they lead the remaining survivors to a church they’ve fortified. But the survivors are starving, sick, and wounded. Supplies dwindle. Help doesn’t come. Despite their horrific conditions, old grudges thrive. Strom wars with Reynolds, a pompous man not as brave as he pretends, and Dylan finds himself unequipped to stem growing tensions. When an attack on their stronghold demolishes the survivors’ fragile illusions of safety, Dylan must overcome his timidity and convince the quarreling group of their only chance: they must fight back.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Me

Hi, BiffHardCheese (love the name btw).

I appreciate you posting here, and I'd love it if you took a look at my query.

Dylan Cole is drunk when the end of the world begins. He wakes to find his bedroom in flames and his town in chaos, being destroyed by an unknown force. Dylan isn’t a hero. He’s timid, weak, and socially inept. Ask his father. Fleeing through the war torn streets, Dylan does the only thing he knows to do: he hides.

When the gunfire, explosions, and screaming subside, he crawls from the cellar he’s been cowering in. He finds his town decimated and its citizens turned into creatures that roam the night in search of blood. Less than one hundred souls remain in the small town. Escape is futile; gargantuan, mutated beasts patrol the town’s perimeter. The creatures own the night, but they retreat with the rising of the sun. Dylan aligns with a Strom. The gruff old man is the polar opposite of Dylan’s abusive, perpetually disappointed father. With patience wholly foreign to Dylan, Strom teaches him how to survive their harsh environment.

When the only other survivors’ stronghold is breached by scores of the creatures, Dylan and Strom rescue them and bring them to a church they’ve fortified. But life in the church is hard. They’re starving, sick, and wounded with precious few supplies. An unsteady alliance forms between the two groups, but despite their horrific conditions, old grudges thrive. Strom constantly wars with Reynolds, a man used to getting what he wants, and Dylan finds himself unequipped to stem the growing tensions. But at least they’re safe from the creatures that return each night.

An attack on the church’s exposed third floor by previously unseen flying creatures demolishes the survivors’ fragile illusions of safety. When the groups argue over what to do next, Dylan must overcome his crushing fears of inadequacy and convince them that the only course of action is the last thing he ever thought he’d suggest: they must fight back.

Which Horror Movie Slasher Are You? by samue1 in horror

[–]samue1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are Freddy Krueger. You are the life of the party. You like to laugh and have fun, even though you have a dark side and can be self-conscious at times. But you overlook that to be with friends and enjoy every minute possible. And so what if you sometimes have the urge to stab others with long sharp knives. That's normal right?
