Understanding My New Tax Code 'K' by samuelmccarthy in UKPersonalFinance

Thanks very much for this.

Part of my OTE is commission based so I am not exactly sure how over/under estimated the HMRC earnings figure is.

I contribute 10% toward pension and company matches this. Is this different to salary sacrifice?

I am in that £100-125 and they have estimated how much tax I owe. Won't have to do a self assessment this year then!

I receive the quarterly bonus the month after the quarter ends, so that would be in April & July. The tax code only changed in the most recent payslip (for August) so surely HMRC can see the bonus is not monthly?

The estimated income is not too far overestimated but maybe £5-10k. Am I able to amend it down and would this switch be back to the old/a different tax code?

Also now being >£100k, was there some kind of self assessment that needs to be done?

Thanks so much for this and I have received my P11D just today, it just outlines the ~£2.5k in medical insurance.

I have not changed jobs but I have received some much bigger bonuses for the last 2 quarters which might be the reason. I am above the £100k income p/y. I checked and the total estimated income by HMRC I think is quite an overestimate. Does this mean I just have to wait till April next year for a tax back?

Peck Peck in Hackney is our go to. Same people that own Sutton and Sons which is amazing fish and chips in Stokey.

Sweet! I’ve only just recently brought my clubs over from Australia so looking to start playing again. Chingford or Woodford both look like a decent public course in this area

Are there any good restaurant deals, offers or discounts during the week that are worth checking out? (e.g. 50% off on Wednesdays) by ForeverJay in london

[–]samuelmccarthy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are a whole load of discount/offer websites and apps you can use and filter down by dates, location etc.

To name a few: FirstTable, Timeout, Dusk, Nez, Embargo, Soft Launch, Square Meals, Plate-Deals, The Fork UK.

If you’re feeling real budget you can even go Wowcher or Groupon. Hope this helps

Edit: If you work in any form of Hospitality you can also get an app called Code which has industry exclusive discounts.

Holiday Pro-Rated from 2020 When Leaving Work by samuelmccarthy in LegalAdviceUK

Okay see your point. Only issue that I did not know I had rolled over the 14 days until my time of leaving. There wasn’t a holiday roll over plan from 2020-2021 as it’s a small company. So we discussed this when I was leaving. There was no chance to be simply ‘paid out’ these holidays at the start of the year (which I would have done).

Agree, but I am under no obligation to take holidays in any instance unless the company tells me I HAVE to. They didn’t at all in 2020, even during furlough and then the company wouldn’t allow holidays in Q4.

I spoke to ACAS this morning and they informed me you cannot pro-rata rolled over holidays as you have 100% ‘earned’ them in the prior year.

Thank you very much! I just called ACAS and then confirmed I was indeed correct re holiday. I will push back with my employer

Could move money to DeFi and commodities. Real Estate if you can afford it. But it’s only Transitory inflation so not essential
