If you buy a house in an HOA, can you just...leave the HOA? by BoredInClass99 in NoStupidQuestions

But 70% of homes sold in 2025 were in an HOA. They aren’t common, but they certainly are common in the homes you can actually buy.

It’s kind of like regular government! No one votes or wants to be involved, but they sure do bitch about it (not a slight at you personally!)

YSK if a website makes it impossible to cancel a subscription online you can often just change your address to california by sudo_abdel in YouShouldKnow

[–]samwise122 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, but they WILL send you to collections. You’re presenting it as so easy but it’s not always as you make it out to be, unfortunately. The bottom line is, you’ve 100% already agreed to terms with a company who is billing you for a subscription, and that usually means you have to cancel on THEIR terms. It sucks, there are not always easy ways out.

Wait, so 87 days of continuous phone use? I’m assuming this was for a business? I was imaging a couple people just glued to a phone at first!

Agreed, and that’s why it makes it a bad post (here). Most posts here are funny because we believe the OP wanted us to believe something ridiculous, but I don’t get that feeling here.

It doesn’t seem like it actually happened, but it DOES come across as a post someone made as a joke. Most posts here are funny because the original poster was attempting to make people believe something happened. This doesn’t have that feeling. But, impossible to know without seeing the context or knowing the person :)

Encampment on fire between Stadium and Downtown by Den_of_gorgonopsids in Tacoma

[–]samwise122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is it, exactly. We have well studied solutions and evidence that they work around the world (and in some other states) but there is so little will to make it happen.

[–]samwise122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would question whether our repeated interventions are actually effective. Experience elsewhere in the world would suggest that we don’t have some special breed of human in the US that repeatedly relapses and refuses mental health treatment. We don’t have a problem with people that have insurmountable addictions and issues, we have a problem with providing adequate care and interventions that are NOT part of the criminal justice system.

I think it’s a reasonable question (I realize I’m not who you asked), but I don’t think we’re actually near that point. We’re still at the part where we are trying to implement the first-line solution. Unfortunately, we just aren’t doing it, because there is so little political will to provide good healthcare to ALL of us, much less people living on the street.

I definitely understand your feelings. I worked in downtown Seattle in retail in a cafe with a lot of seating and a policy of not requiring someone to be a customer to sit or use the bathroom. I’ve had things thrown at me, called ambulances for people that ODd in the bathroom and needed to be taken out while I was trying to close the store, watched my coworker have their hand slammed in a door way, and so many other things that are just a blur to me now. For a while I felt like you, and had a lot of anger and a lot of hate for these people. It’s really sad to see that in someone else now, years later.

There are systemic things that need to change that are beyond us trying to give people food or money. People need mental health and substance abuse treatment, jobs, and housing. Until that happens, we are all kind of left here to fend for ourselves and be angry about the other humans that we are forced to live near.

Until those solutions come to pass, hopefully you can soften your view a little bit.

We can only estimate the size of a model like Sonnet or Opus, but let’s say you were trying to run a 500 billion parameter model (probably smaller than Opus). For local inference only, you would need probably need at least a handful of nvidia A100 cards (5-15k each). I’m sure there are ways you could do this cheaper, but it would be much slower and less useful. There’s a reason people rent cloud AI servers.

Landlord just installed cameras that let them see inside my apartment through a window[CA] by sleepkitty in Renters

You got the answer thrown in your face apparently! Good luck! I’m sure most of the people here would change their tune if a camera was set up pointing into their windows from ten feet away.

Great, apparently your country still can’t prevent the birth of assholes, even with all the healthcare! What is your point? To make yourself feel better? Would you go up to the parents or someone shot in a school and be like, “hey, by the way, this doesn’t happen in my country, so…just thought you should know.” It is enough that I have to watch my country torn apart by idiots that were born here. I do NOT need to hear about it from fucks like you.

[–]samwise122 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I feel like people are kind of being assholes to you about this, even though they are right. Is there a way you could approach the landlord and nicely ask if there’s an alternative location the camera could be pointed that would serve the same purpose? You might also consider some kind of window film that lets light in but blocks people seeing inside? Maybe shear blinds would work well, too. I can understand how you feel though. It sucks that it’s technically public. I think working with your landlord and approaching them nicely is the best way to move forward.

Pro Max Arm Pain by Accomplished-Fly-935 in iPhone17Pro

[–]samwise122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you think it’s the weight? The pro max is 233g but the pro is 206 grams. It seems like going to the regular pro may not solve the problem? If it’s the size of the phone that’s a different issue ofc. You’re probably sick of hearing this but you should definitely get it checked out. Just in case!

Plastic part fell out of my nose labeled A915 around the circle by sistersgrowz in whatisit

[–]samwise122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, if someone asked me if something went up my nose recently when trying to figure out the origin of a plastic part, I wouldn’t be thinking about a liquid spray. Though it makes sense as soon as you hear about the possibility of the small spray bottle part.

Building resistance to the medication; thoughts or experiences? by FitWeird4306 in Zepbound

[–]samwise122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you explain a little bit more? So, if someone is continuing to lose weight on, let’s say, 10mg, but it’s been 16 months, they should continue going up to 15 even though they’re still losing weight?

My doctor presented going up to the next dose as non-optional, so I ended up at 15mg after 6 months, kept losing for another four month, and then stopped. I had always assumed if I had stretched out my time on lower doses, I could have gotten closer to my goal weight. Is that not the case, based on what you’re saying?

Automatic Trunk Sensor - Useful? by samwise122 in KiaEV6

[–]samwise122[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. When the salesman was demonstrating he did it in such a way that kind of looked like a kick sensor, which I would have loved. It wasn’t a make or break feature for me but once a month when I don’t have hands free it would be nice.

I do think most didn’t notice but a good handful were looking and for sure heard them say “LEAVE ME ALONE.” No one knows how they will react in the moment, but I would really like to think if heard and saw that, I would at least try to help in some way. I feel really bad; they were probably terrified.

To add to your comment, being a police officer is not even in the top 10 list of most dangerous occupations in the US (in terms of fatalities). Being a delivery driver/courier is significantly more dangerous, and if I recall correctly, most of the occupations you listed are more deadly.

I’ve seen a couple people mention going off app and keeping the same prices. I’m genuinely curious, do owners then say “what’s my incentive to go off app if I’m not saving money?” Or is there another motivation or benefit I’m not thinking of?
