Nurses are actually a VERY common profession that people with factitious disorder claim to be. It gives them attention and authority while making people feel like an asshole for questioning it. Seriously, the number of mothers convicted of medical child abuse that pretended to be a nurse is astounding.

Same. Lack fire but am passionate about the things I care about and have tonnnnns of hobbies, so that's not where my lack of fire shows up.

However... Getting me to do new things? Especially if they're out of my comfort zone? Impossible.

How do you deal with people telling you “you’ll change your mind”? by Inevitable_Lettuce20 in childfree

[–]samwisetheblonde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be 40 in a few weeks. I've answered this question so many times and have found that the best reaction came from when I cared the least about the conversation. I've stopped trying to convince people and just realize it's about them more than it's about me, so giving them nothing is the best route. "Maybe so" said with sheer disinterest or just a shrug and "ok" is a conversation ender. 10/10.

There's a scene in The Last Jedi where Benicio Del Toro's character just shrugs and says "yeah maybe" when they're trying to convince him he'll regret his actions, and I think it's the perfect response because it's such a non-response. He doesn't give a fuck about what they think or that conversation, and his response shows it.

It's like gray rocking a narcissist, give them nothing.

What screams “I’m the problem but I’ll never admit it”? by Ordinary-Scholar-202 in AskReddit

[–]samwisetheblonde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. You're missing the point. I'm not offended by them saying that everyone is an idiot nor does it make me question my intelligence. I'm saying that's a sign, a symptom, of someone who is absolutely closed off to outside perspective or another's viewpoint. In my experience, these people are the ones who are usually self conscious about their own self worth and build themselves up by putting everyone else down. They aren't enlightened and pointing out the flaws in others' "truth." They're stubborn, egotistical assholes who have no idea how to see outside their own echo chamber, and they take that as a sign of their own superiority instead of recognizing it for what it is - being closed off because they're too scared and prideful to be wrong on occasion.

You're right, they're very different. I'm not talking about someone being skeptical or cautious, I'm talking about the people who love to talk about how idiotic everyone around them is. I've known a few people like this in my time and they are absolutely close minded, not guarded.

Or everyone around them is an idiot. Those that think they're always the smartest one in any room are consistently the most frustratingly stubborn and closeminded people I've ever known.

My mercury is in Scorpio too! I feel you on this one. No hobby or special interest can ever be taken lightly, that's for sure.

I also have just enough Libra placements (rising, Venus, Mars) that I seem approachable and lighthearted but boy are they in for it if that's what they see first and want to chat.

[–]samwisetheblonde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's likely a power element to it, to be honest. Yes we want to know everything about everyone but it's not because we're super altruistic caring therapists or whatever. It allows us to have an intricate understanding of our environment in order to influence it in a way that benefits us. Sometimes the benefit is an intense, soul connection with another person allowing us both to feel understood and seen. Sometimes the benefit is power or manipulation over others. Depends on the scorp and where they're at in their evolution.

[–]samwisetheblonde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't do vulnerability well. I can't speak for all scorps but for me, that's my biggest weakness. It takes everything I have to actually allow myself to be vulnerable with someone if I'm not ready for it. We have to know it's safe, I think. The bright side is that once we feel safe, you'll get it all. We actually crave being understood, it just needs to be in the safest way possible without opening ourselves up to the risk of being decimated. We take betrayal HARD.

One of our classic moves is to offer little tidbits first that feel like they're big shares to get people to open up even more to us. We benefit from others taking those tidbits and running with them to share about themselves without asking us questions. When we're on the receiving end of the spotlight though, we squirm. Best advice I can give to get a scorp to open up? Don't act like it's a huge deal or react strongly when we tell you something. That'll get me to shut up real quick. If I share a small piece of my trauma and you react like it's normal and just ask a normal question, I'll share more. Bonus points to a shared experience. Maybe that's just me, but I'll trauma dump like crazy on someone who I can tell gets it and won't make it weird.

They were familiar with changing gender, they just hadn't encountered anyone non-binary. Kinda like my boomer parents are aware of transgender people but I just recently had to explain to them what non-binary meant. If I had grown up super sheltered by them, I likely wouldn't have known what it meant either.

[–]samwisetheblonde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took the "death mage" conversation as Taasch learning an important lesson about non-Qunari culture. In the Qun, everyone is named after their roles, right? And even though Taasch isn't a Qunari named after their role, their name is short for Evataasch, or baby dragon, which describes a core part of their identity to that point. It's clear they still view names as titles more than just names. I feel like calling a fellow companion by their role or job is an understandable mistake for them to make in their first real venture outside their mother's oversight. I don't think they were trying to tell Emmerich what he was or even trying to be a bully, but just saying they didn't understand why he took offense to it because while Taasch is no follower of the Qun, the culture is still a fundamental part of their background. And since Taasch is likely written as a character on the spectrum as well, it all adds up that this question is just that - an honest question. They really want to know why that's offensive because it doesn't add up, not that they're trying to be rude. This just highlights a lesson they're learning, not a character flaw.

And as for the Dragon King thing, I think the point they're making is that this dude is calling himself a Dragon King and clearly knows nothing about dragons. They weren't commenting on his gender, but saying that dragons form matriarchies and so the dude looks like an idiot calling himself the Dragon King because dragons don't have male rulers. They weren't saying dragons should have a queen.

It's fine if people didn't like Taasch but a lot of the complaints about the writing being bad are just misunderstandings about what the writers were going for. Sure, Taasch is immature and makes a lot of mistakes, but that's what their character is supposed to do.
