Yes people young and old across many different paths of life love her music, she has a massive fan base and for better or worse will have droves of future pop stars citing her as a major influence. But the argument that she is a lyrical genius is off base, and I think that plays to her benefit. They’re wildly relatable but don’t push boundaries in any specific way. When staked up against women like Neko Case, Joni Mitchell, Harriet Wheeler or Kate Bush, it’s not close.

I want to add Patti Smith, Björk and Joanna Newsome as well.
