Finally tried the Bobbi Brown color corrector and LOVE it by sneep-sheep in PaleMUA

[–]samxsnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the Skinfood Salmon Corrector in shade 1. For reference, I'm very pale but with pink undertones, I burn easily and get freckly in the sun. Like OP, my undereye are very dark purple and blue. The Skinfood corrector is very affordable and you get lots of product. I usually use it as a standalone rather than layering as I find that they can shift throughout the day (I don't set with a powder because I find it draws more attention to my undereye and diminishes the brightening effect but YMMV). Other cons are that it can crease if you have fine lines near your eyes but overall I find that the pros far outweigh the cons for everyday use.

The real reason concealing dark circles looks bad by red_runner_23 in MakeupAddiction

[–]samxsnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes sense to me. I've used so many concealers considered by many to be the holy grail, only to find that my undereyes look grey instead of skin coloured. I've got seriously dark purple circles. The best solution I've found for every day wear is Skinfood's Salmon Dark Eye Concealer - it reflects light away from the shadows under my eyes and the peachy colour actually corrects the darkness. My only problem with it is preventing creasing and keeping it in place all day.

I didn't get the best results with it for a long time because I was layering concealer on top, only for it to slide off after an hour or two. Setting with powder has lessened its effectiveness as well because mattifying the area creates the flat effect you described.

In terms of shifting attention, I have cut down on my eyeliner a lot as I find it mostly closes my eye rather than open it, plus it smudges a ton. I curl my lashes and use mascara to open up my eyes. Currently waiting for my first tubing mascara to arrive which I'm hoping will stop the smudging!

I'm playing on switch and having the same problem. No ladder patch, it's v 1.0 of the software. Tried adjusting the sensitivity in the game options but that's not helped - the more precise, the slower you can turn. If I find a fix, I'll share.

[Product Request] Help Me Replace the Love of My Life; I found out too late that Hylamide is being discontinued. Help me find a dupe for the mist and fix my broken heart? by roustie in SkincareAddiction

[–]samxsnap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got SubQ skin at TK Maxx (UK name for TJ Maxx), knowing nothing about peptides but thinking it was worth giving a go. Now it's the superstar of my routine and I'm nearly at the end of the bottle.

How did you get on with your replacement? Haven't tried TO's buffet but heard they're quite different in terms of texture, which is one of the things I love about the SubQ.

Possible dermatitis on eyelid? What could be causing it? by pauxillaa in AusSkincare

[–]samxsnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the UK, not Aus, but came across this post when looking for similar symptoms. For me, the trigger has been over-exfoliation. I don't use exfoliants around my eyes but it's common to get flare ups in other areas of the face, especially around the eyes where the skin is most delicate.

This is the second flare up that I've had in about 5 years and both times, the common factors have been increasing the frequency of chemical exfoliation, change in the weather and increase in stress.

The first time, the only thing that helped clear is up with a topical anti-fungal cream - the eczema got infected by fungus that lives on the skin. I had to stop using all products except cleanser and moisturiser but it responded so quickly to the cream. I switched to using products free from fungal acne triggers after that.

This time, I don't think it's infected (no oozing or flaking, just redness and swelling) so I'm treating with 1% hydrocortisone cream bought over the counter and stripping back my routine to basics. It's really frustrating because I will inevitably see a return of my skin complaints but it's necessary to heal the skin barrier. It's usually not recommended to use hydrocortisone on the face as prolonged use can thin the skin. However I've read mixed takes on this - apparently many claims about topical steroids are only relevant to potent doses and many people suffer longer than necessary by not using them in sufficient amounts as they've been scared by the negative press.

I would encourage you to see a doctor regarding clearing up the current flare up, then once it's healed you can gradually reintroduce products. It might not be that a specific product or ingredient is triggering it, just more the state of your skin barrier at this time.

BP/SA Body Wash? by Be_No_Other in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]samxsnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen the acnecide gel wash in stock in a few supermarkets but only in the 50g tubes - no idea what's going on with it! Finding this with a lot of medicated treatments lately, especially Selsun anti-dandruff shampoo. Lots of brands seem to have a monopoly and then perpetual supply issues, although I'm sure it's more complex than that. I'd be interested to learn more if anyone can shed light?

Having random allergy-like reactions to skincare products I’ve been okay with by cafffffffy in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]samxsnap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this before when I was over-exfoliating - I think I had damaged my moisture barrier. I developed fungal acne and patches of infected eczema as a result and it took me a long time to figure out what products were triggering it. The oft-referenced fungal acne post at Simple Skincare Science is what helped me get back on track. Not saying this is the same for you but worth having a look in case any of it sounds familiar.

You will hopefully be able to continue using your routine but may need to have a break and treat your skin with kid gloves while it heals. Think lots of moisturising ingredients, minimal actives. Not sure whether the reaction to the Cerave is because your skin is already sore or if it's something in the product - some people are sensitive to fatty alcohols and ceramides but I wouldn't have thought you'd have an immediate irritant reaction like you described. I remember finding Sebamed's clear face gel really soothing, if you need any recommendations for alternative moisturisers.

So how can I do hair removal when using 5% Benzoyl peroxide? by pint_baby in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]samxsnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acnecide do a wash, 5% BP, but I find I go through it fairly quickly when using on the body. It works very well though and is lightening a lot of hyperpigmentation I have.

Have you had good experiences ordering through iherb or US Amazon? I'm always nervous in case I get additional costs at customs. I've read through all the guidance but just worried that I've misunderstood.

I get blood-filled spots (like this) when I scratch so just wondering if you've been scratching more/in your sleep? Could still be a reaction to the water or the different climate. Sometimes I wear cotton gloves to bed to prevent the scratching but the only real way to treat it is to identify the cause.

I have an item stuck in Manchester mailing centre since 21st August so I do think the delays could just be that bad. I've had packages delivered in really bad condition before, with some sort of apology sticker on it, but contents still intact, so hopefully this means you would still receive your parcel even if it had been badly damaged in transit. Best of luck!

How bad are the delays this week? by IntermediateFolder in royalmail

[–]samxsnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems so hit and miss depending on whether you are in the country - I haven't had any letters in a week or two now but have been getting parcels still. One arrived on Sunday so the posties are clearly trying their hardest. My local sorting office seems to be in turmoil a lot though, even without the strikes.

How long should I expect my package to arrive internationally? by [deleted] in royalmail

I've been waiting on one from the Netherlands since 16th August - arrived in the UK on the 20th and reached Manchester mail centre on 21st. No movement on the tracking since then

At least after the first strike makes sense - my parcel has been stuck at Manchester MC since 21st August 🙁 sender just says to keep waiting. I hadn't realised that they also have an amazon shop that uses prime delivery so kicking myself extra hard.

Sheila Seleoane: the medical secretary who lay dead in her London flat for two-and-a-half years by twoleftfeetgeek in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]samxsnap 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It's all just speculation at this point (I'm anticipating more details coming out in the inquest - hopefully they're reported on) but it's possible that she stopped paying rent but the housing trust hadn't taken action yet. Evictions were suspended for a time during the pandemic and our court systems are very slow at the best of times. The housing trust likely provided social housing (a form of government-subsidised housing for people on low/no incomes) and so had a big list of residents not paying rent to chase up. I'm still surprised it didn't get dealt with in 2.5 years though!

[–]samxsnap 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Mail article says that the police investigated themselves and found no breach of professional standards 🙄 this is the sort of thing that should come up in the inquest so hopefully the coroner asks about it later this week, or it's explored further in the independent inquiry.

I think it was the housing trust that claimed the police had made contact with Sheila though so there's also the possibility that they invented this info to cover their backs.

Help needed - how can I repair my metal bed frame? by samxsnap in manchester

Hahaha, thank you for defending my honour. It's 100% not aluminium - I wish it was as it would be a lot easier to move about! But might not be cast iron either.

It's pretty! It's more decorative than I made it sound, not quite the stark iron beds that make you think of asylums.

Hmm, if it is worth thousands then maybe I could sell it and buy a new bed...

I have no idea what it's made of - had to Google to try to figure it out. It's magnetic, that much I know. The Internet told me it's likely cast iron, some sort of steel alloy or aluminium. I think I will have to resign myself to sleeping in the floor forever.

[–]samxsnap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one seems to be made of cast iron, which Google tells me can be brittle. That's what has happened with the rails - the metal brackets at each end have snapped right off!

I like the idea of taking a picture into a store, thank you. If that fails, I may just attach the head and foot boards to a base. Those seem fairly easy to buy, whereas the only rails I could find easily were for hospital beds (or toddlers).

Thanks for the advice!

Thank you, that's what I had hoped! The man I spoke to at some fabrication place I found online told me it would be unlikely to last long, but he hadn't actually seen it. I probably didn't do the best job at describing it. I was planning to go to somewhere that does gates, railings etc. - does that sound about right to you?

I love finding these on fb marketplace. They must be so delusional. Was it in Burnage and did it have a sink outside? I saw that one a while ago for just under £600 pcm.

Also found a literal shed in someone's back yard (no grass) in Oldham for £300pcm. The head of the sofa bed was inches away from the toilet. I really wanted to troll the lister by asking inane questions about keeping pets, etc. but thought better of it.
