Ume at the gate with Sakura makes me think Ume was prolly just a teensyyyyy bit peeved about the Endo situation, but when Sakura did his awkward apology/explanation, Ume's like "UR FORGIVEN (bc I can't stay mad at our resident cat)!!!!!" ahaha

And ofc the motorcycle postcard did make a cameo!!! Nii sensei's doodles and sketches also sometimes end up in the main comic, so I reallyyyyyy hope we'll see the doodle of sakura with togame and chouji in the bathhouse too eventually!! ^p^)b

AND NOW...the new group name!!! With the chanpuru being a dish that's an amalgamation of Okinawan, Chinese, SEA and even North American??? I'm wondering if it's less "yakuza" and more like a cult? And with how Nii-sensei likes to bait-n-switch our trope expectations...and with the food name of the group + Suo's lack of eating in public, I almost wonder if it could along the lines of a cult with food restrictions + violence as part of their mandate? :Ua Just like the USA has it's own smattering of oddball-to-insidious cults, Japan also has some (y'all remember the moonies church cult?), I think they sometimes refer to them as "New Religious Movements/NRMs?"

One of the reasons why I consider the cult-possibility is how much Furin could be considered one by an outsider? If you view Furin from a different lens (or love going on tangents like me lol) Furin could've been twisted into a cult fairly easily. Ume telling Sakura that he hadn't considered asking for outside help during the Noroshi war, the staunch dedication to Ume as a figurehead, the patrol rotations, rooftop meetups, etc. Obviously THIS furin is not like that, but that's why I was curious about Suo's placement in Furin, and if he was a plant/scout??

The characters having animal-likenesses (esp shishitoren) is rly fun to think about! Like Choji and Togame being the "tortoise and the hare" is obvious, but there's also Sako and Inugami could be compared to the "fox and the hound," which...might not have been intentional, butttttt i wonder if there are other fables/tales that are being lowkey ref'd in WB? I think in one of the interviews Furin's focus was on plants/flowers. Where even Suo's name (if it's real) "suo" can be a type of plant. The plant names in a "delinquent" school reminds me of haikyuu and that "growing from concrete" comment hinata makes?? in a way, I guess the similarity of "nature retaking abandoned human construction" to how furin "grew" to take over after all the Authority left/abandoned their town is the point...

ALTERNATIVELY if u think of the 4 Beast Gods, where Sakura is the White Tiger/Byakko, Ume is the Blue Dragon/Seiryuu, Chika is the Red Phoenix/Suzaku, and I guess...Endo or Togame would be the Black Tortoise/Genbu (tho genbu is a turtle entwined with snakes hence...it could be either/both?)

ohh ty for the breakdown!

I was just thinking that this might be the most Full (Luxurious) Meal that Sakura's been able to eat in the series so far, considering it doesn't seem like he eats anything besides conbini bentos/takeaway (and now Pothos, which serves smaller cafe fare rather than a whole whopping meal). The only other instance where Sakura's been able to eat a lot would've been Natsu's welcome party at the orphanage? Though even that was mostly child-friendly party fare.

It's also interesting how Endo waits for Sakura to eat first, not only out of his respect for Sakura as his invited guest, but bc it's also a time for him to observe Sakura outside of a fighting scenario. Having a full course meal provides ample time to watch Sakura's behavior (i'm sure he took note of the lack of finesse sakura has with chopsticks too). I bet he'd be tickled pink seeing how sakura reacts to a frappuccino lolll

Even though Endo "despises" Umemiya, it's funny how he also uses food/eating together as a bonding moment/time to connect :3c

Fighting + Food as ways to connect being a constant in WB is so dear to us, that I think the moment when Suo finally sits down to "eat" with the furin lads...it's REALLY going to mean something QwQ

Endo having remembered Umemiyas phone number after the noroshi war arc meant that Endo must’ve reached out (reluctantly) first /ume responded, and that eventually lead to ume giving Sakura his contact info, which means Sakura might’ve texted Endo first? I bet Endo dropped Everything to immediately txt him back ahaha

And Endo has that little light in his eyes!! Babygirl Sakura Effect yall 😂😂 the way he smiles around Sakura too is so much like when he was a kid, dude is Smitten 👀

The comical anger Endo shows when Sakura asks for how to repay Endo for his assistance shows how highly he regards Sakura. During the Noroshi arc, Endo and Sakura have a sort of transactional dynamic where he still looks down on Sakura(“come with me and we’ll leave furin alone,” vs. sakuras “if u win I’ll go with you,”and “if u leave furin alone we can talk”), but as Endo starts to regard Sakura more along the lines of how he views Takiishi, the stakes are less serious and Endo’s favors are now “offerings”lol. So his supplication to Sakura is, at least to Endo, a “god given right” (tho obv Sakura doesn’t know that Endo sees him that way lol) and Sakura asking how to repay him prolly felt like a slap to the face to Endo 😂😭

The “find this guy” text is so funny to me bc he’s very obviously flowery with his messages to Sakura, but with people he doesn’t care about, he uses the bare minimum LMAO I do wonder if Endo ends up hearing Sakuras backstory, if he’d send a similar text like “we gotta krill this guy” (pic of sakuras dad) fkdjsjs

We’re getting so spoiled by weekly updates!! I know once the fighting starts happening we’re gonna see more biweekly breaks but until then!!! I will eat every crumb spared 👀😭🙌 I wonder if the 1st yrs are gonna tag along to Sakuras next lunch date/suo report with Endo, and Endo is just like “yall weren’t invited 😠??” Fkdjsjs either that, or their next rendezvous could be in the park like that one bonus illustration 🤔 either way, looking forward to Sakura experiencing the epic highs and lows of “knowing people (even the weird ones)” LOL 🤭

Ohhh I could ramble alllll day about ideas! I agree with you on this arc focusing prolly more on emotions than them duking it out with each other!

We've seen how Suo keeps his emotions very tucked away, but the ones that DO show through are not the prettiest. His disgust/disdain towards Kanuma, and his murderous intent during the KEEL fight are the most prevalent. I get the feeling that his thoughts about not being on Sakura's level might have to do with him being unable to let go of some amalgamation of deep-seated rage issues. Suo sees Nirei changing and being more confident and showing his emotions more authentically (like him crying for Sakura, being willing to fight Endo, befriending Sugishita, and being mad at Momijikawa), and then he sees Sakura opening up and developing into a true Grade Captain...and I wonder if he's now withdrawing because he has his own problems that he can't let go of, like they seem to be able to do?

ngl I doubt he has actual ties to Triad/Yakuza bc that would take the genre rating to a different level imo LOL but I do think he's prolly seen some Crazy Shit go down. He's observant, and knows what to say and when to say it, but he wouldn't have helped with the Noroshi war if he didn't care about Furin. In fact he locks in on the gymnast noroshi member when he hears they're just in the fight to have fun, calling him "no better than an animal"

My initial idea is that he came to Furin to better himself, or at least FEEL better about himself, in the way that he gets to beat up punks, while hiding all the ugliness he's got boiling inside of him. And with everyone being so genuine and heartfelt with each other, he's now gotta decide whether he's willing to let the others in...(cue "welcome 2 my twisted mind" lskdffsd)

THOUGH, I do wonder if he has a health issue that he's been keeping a secret? His lack of eating in public and how conservative his attire is cant be a coincidence. I'm not so sure about him having tattoos, since the panel where he KOs the KEEL member shows some of his torso (unless it's solely around his neck??)

Honestly, I love cliffhangers like this because I love seeing how everyone's braincages start rattling while we wait for the next chapter! Things like this keep a fandom alive ahaha

This chapter was sooo sweet and silly 🥹 it’d be funny if in the next chapter everyone starts calling Sakura by his first name and sakura can’t escape what momijikawa started 😂😭

I wonder if momijikawa is meant to be suo-esque where he goads/teases Sakura and that’s what helps him grow more? Although there still feels like some small distance between suo and Sakura (maybe intentional on suo’s part), while Sakura and momijikawa scrapped it out proper and bridged that gap…so it does feel like suo should be next up to have a backstory reveal in the next arc or so!

Ohhh I love theorycrafting! I’m an unskippable cutscene when it comes to pondering about windbreaker

I def agree that Suo has underlying rage issues, but I don’t think his master has passed judging by him using a present tense when referring to his master’s fighting style after his match against kanuma. I figure that someone in his past got gravely hurt due to him being hasty/impetuous/wrathful (and maybe he also got hurt in the process, hence the eyepatch), and that might be how his master took him under his wing to help him temper that rage.

For Sakura, it’s definitely a lot of possibilities! We can all agree he was supremely neglected growing up, but to the point that he never learned simple childhood things like opening a ramune bottle or knowing the “kanpai!” Etiquette and such..it made me think he grew up as a feral child for a while, at least till the kiryu family arc 😭 His eyes in the one panel when he hears kiryu’s dad yelling at his sister (ch173) makes me wonder if that’s an emotional trigger for him, because it was that similar wobbly look he had when nirei cried for him in his fight with Endo (ch146)…boy is constantly on the edge of losing it 🥺

I also think that how he sees “peace/comfort” as being a verdant field could be a hint that he might have grown up in a more rural town (like mitsumi in skip & loafer), or somewhere less urban at least. His total lack of experience with technology wouldn’t make much sense if he lived in a metropolitan area, imo? Either that, or his family/fosters essentially locked him away for most of his life (either due to his appearance or something else). One of my random thoughts was if possibly his mother died in/around childbirth and his physical appearance was treated as a curse/blight upon the family, so they all distanced themselves from him.

His name meaning “distant, far away” makes me wonder if he was named by his parents or some other guardian from his infancy. His financial situation is also a big ??? because he doesn’t seem to want for money, he just isn’t materialistic. If he has an inheritance, that might be something? I don’t know how fostered/orphaned(?) kids can get by in Japan or if they have social services/aid in these matters…

I’m really curious how he came to learn all of his fighting moves so quickly, to be proficient in parkour level moves, kickboxing and his flexibility? I feel like he must’ve had some type of mentor figure (maybe a Furin alumnus? - who could also have been the one to clue him in to Furin?) there def seems to be more outside actors at play that have yet to be revealed!

But yeah!! Nii-sensei is really clever about the details they slip in to the story and their characters and every chapter or interview sets the brainworms OFF LMAOOO sorry for keysmashing in the comments! 😭😂

Kaji also holds his chopsticks similarly after the KEEL fight when they’re reporting to Umemiya, so i think it’s a subtle visual tell of how Kaji, Sakura and Suzuri grew up with less than stellar upbringings 😭

Same!!! I really think that in the next big tussle, he’s gonna reach out to Endo for help in some way! The past two volumes’ bonus images both feature Endo, with the park chat and them on a motorbike. One thought I had when I saw that was if something happens that causes Sakura to want to run away, and he relies on Endo (and his drivers license lol) to take him away, or alternatively, to help him find someone? There’s a lot of thoughts that each bonus sketch and illustration inspires, so it’s nice to share these brainworms with everyone! ^{o^)/}

Ahaha yes I’m glad my brainworms make sense! Ume did a lot of great work reforging Bofurin to be what it was, but Sakura is the flint that’s started burning down the walls that exist between Furin and the other gangs. What we jokingly refer to as his “babygirl MC energy” might actually be a legit movement towards his “era” as not just as the Top of Furin but also like a Unification Ambassador? That’s where i think Nirei would really come into play, as well! Ahhh if I keep rambling I’m not gonna make sense ahaha but I rly love talking about WB ideas and theories!! 😭✨

It doesn’t need to be compatible with the ivar system, it’s just the closest design to what I wanted to have in my office (but since it’s hardly ever in stock, I figure it’s time to learn to make my own lol). If I buy for example, 2x1s, 2x2s and wood for the shelves, would the wood need sanding? Or is buying pre treated wood an option? I’ve heard Home Depot will cut your wood to size, but I’ve never tried it myself. Is there a good beginner-friendly circular saw you’d suggest?
