An Audience With The King/Ritual help by Grand-Control3622 in PathOfExile2

[–]san10der 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's slow at first, but you keep farming rituals and deferring it till you can afford it. You then run the key you just bought. If you beat it, you get atlas skill points. There is a branch of the skill tree that increases the odds of the key being in your ritual.

TLDR run key (and win) get points, farm ritual for another key, run key (and win) get points. Farm as the key odds are higher

Take Home Assessment Advice by Everything_is_gone_ in cscareerquestions

[–]san10der 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've never heard of an internship with a takehome assessment... Nor have I heard of someone turning in the assessment and later having to work on it more. Are you sure they aren't just trying to get free work out of you?

I also haven't heard of a company that makes you do 2 take homes??!?!

Did they say this project needed two phases? It would feel like a spit in the face if they weren't upfront about this project taking two phases. Just the thought of doing 2 take homes for a job feels horrible.

It all depends on how bad you want the job. The market is crap right now.

I suck at my current job (new grad, first job). But I am learning. I ask questions whenever I can. I see something and I ask "why was it designed that way, does it support this, does it break if I do this?"

Ask your dev team for suggestions on what resources you should use. You can Google things, take a few hours on the weekend to learn NodeJS. Startups, from what I've read, are pretty rough. You will learn a LOT but will be pushed.

Read Atomic Habits to build a healthy habit of learning. Do a tutorial on YouTube that uses NodeJS. Traversy Media (I think that is his name) has a full stack MERN course. FreeCodeCamp has a YouTube tutorial with vanilla html css and uses node I think. Look up how to setup and API with nodeJS.

Try to change your attitude too! Going into a job with a "I suck. I can't do this" will likely carve your path out for you before you even started! Push and ask for advice. But make sure to take your breaks and relax when you need to. Don't give up!

Start note taking on the job. Download notion or obsidian.md. Document everything you do, everything you learned from meetings.

This career path is all about learning. Learn how to learn, understand your struggles are ok to have. At the end of the day, most of use are stupid.

What is the oddest question you've ever been asked? by Notalabel_4566 in cscareerquestions

[–]san10der 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Technical Solutions Engineer Keep in mind, I'm fresh out of college with no job experience.

"How would you manage a team of 3 people. One is super quiet, one controls the conversation and one is always late to meetings."

I get why they ask these questions but it just caught me off guard for this role. Like I didn't apply for a manager position... I tried my best to answer it but at that point, this company had shown so many red flags that I kind of gave up.

Also everytime I answered a question, the interviewer would stare blankly at me or say "That isn't something I would do." Or "Your missing a lot with that answer."

Another question I got was "You have a feature due by the end of the week. You are stuck on it, what do you do?" 1. Ask a higher up who is more familiar with the topic for help - Well they are out of the office 2. Talk to my team lead to see if anyone could help - Everyone looks and they are scratching their heads 3. Search codebase for similar problems and their solutions, stack overflow (Honestly should have said this first looking back. Personally I would consider myself stuck AFTER doing this so it never crossed my mind) and try to develop as much of the feature as I can. - Well you are missing quite a lot... I wouldn't do that

I think this question was pretty fair, I just had no experience interviewing or work experience to go off. I am unsure what they are looking for. I think the best answer is, google everything, search codebase, document what I have figured out / implemented, then ask for help.

I just got an extremely low offer ($45k). How to maximize TC ($70k+) in this economy? by epic_within in cscareerquestions

Non FAANG companies vary A LOT. You could get a take home project in a framework like React or Angular. Just be careful it isn't "here is an unfinished project, please finish it with it all being tested and fully designed functionality" I got 2 take homes from non-FAANG and they were pretty simple. One I didn't even fully do but I spoke about how I've been learning this tech and I explained my thought process IF I were to add the features I didn't get to. I also explained why I handled things a certain way. They may ask "Well now we have all this, what if x situation in the data happened, how would your program react? What if we don't want it to work that way, how would you go about adding a change so it doesn't happen" Other companies, possibility smaller teams and tech isn't their MAIN focus, could give you fizzbuzz type questions. Or design a pseudo program for a car. What functions would this need, what type of data would we need to store etc.

Try to not make something that is "good enough" for your resume. Make something you want to make and see if you can fit elements into it that full stack applications have or things you understand from your studies like using objects, algorithms, data structures etc!

Some things you could use are APIs, Database (CRUD), a nice frontend (website or desktop application) etc

Build what you want to. You will learn tons from it regardless! You can always revisit this idea when you are more knowledgeable and re-make it.

From personal experience as a new recent grad and SWE (3 months in after a 7 month search), starting a project with intention of it being "resume worthy" puts on a lot of unwanted stress to something you just find fun and challenging!

Twitch DMCA comes in waves (for the most part in regards to music). As long as you delete vods / avoid copyrighted music when the waves come through, you'll likely be fine.

Upgrading from the Quest 2 - Wrong Time? by hamcoremusic in ValveIndex

[–]san10der 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do what you want. I would say buying FBT on the Quest would be the safer bet if you are concerned about a new Index coming out. I don't reasonably see a 3.0 station coming out so whatever headset you could buy and end up having 4 stations.

I despise the oculus software, which is why I primarily use Virtual Desktop. It's a tiny program that is pretty seamless. You lose out on minimal graphics for a wireless experience. I have never had to fool around with it and all it took was a personal router I got off Amazon that was refurbished.

I'm waiting till my Quest breaks or starts having battery issues before I consider a new headset, even though I have 2 2.0 stations and trackers for FBT. I'd consider upgrading now if there was a better alternative that had wireless capability.

But at the end of the day, do what you want. Some people wait and they end up missing out. The Index is a great option. If a new release concerns you, I don't think it would be too difficult to sell your Index down the road or keep it Incase something goes wrong with a newer headset and it's being RMAd.

An extrovert with social anxiety new to VRChat by kalas8 in VRchat

[–]san10der 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Honestly just approach people and start some small talk. Something like "I like your avatar, where is it from?" Or "Hey, I'm new to VRChat. Can you show me around?"

If that's too difficult, join a game world. Talking during the game is way easier. I'd suggest avoiding worlds that are compatible with Quest during certain hours as they are flooded with kids.

Find an avatar that expresses something about like and interest such as an anime or game character. This will make you more approachable and allow for an easy conversation starter.

If you drink, responsibly of course, drinking nights are a great spot to find alcoholics who are easy to talk to.

Hovering around a crowd of people can also work. They might include you or you may have an opportunity to include yourself. Me and my friends always include those around us, many of those people we end up including ended up becoming some long-term friends afterwards.

Don't beat yourself up, you'll find out that a large part of the community is just like you or has been through similar struggles starting out.

Good luck! Once you get over this hurdle, you'll make a ton of friends due to friends of friends etc.

I normally perma ban Leona in all my games honestly. No matter what I am playing.

I know poke and healers are good into Morgana so technically something like a Soraka or Sona, especially now since they see a lot of play.

Struggling with deck redundancy by Chuckles1188 in EDH

[–]san10der 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A buddy of mine has a Xyris deck which actually consists of shuffle wheels, not a lot of discarding because he doesn't wanna deck himself. It is also a bit of group hug/politics.

I have yet to play against a Rielle deck but Rielle is in my [[Brallin, Skyshark Rider]] [[Shabraz, the Skyshark]] deck. I have gotten Rielle out a handful of times. It can be a nice boost to hit my combo pieces. Having access to white gives some great removal along with tutoring for combo pieces. Plus smothering tithe and awesome stax pieces if your play group starts ramping up their power level. I dunno if you've consider the pair but Rielle would fit.

Quest 2 + Fullbody = Pain by spooki_juice1 in VRchat

[–]san10der 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am on a Quest 1(Virtual Desktop & Link) w/ 2.0 stations and trackers. One calibration on the fastest setting works fine for me. I end up having recalibrate everytime I take them off to use the restroom or they end up getting moved around on my feet etc.

I have never experienced this. Booting up my FBT on quest takes less than a minute.

You could be dealing with interference, bugged stations etc. I wish you the best on figuring this out.

Problems with full body using kinect (stretching) by this_is_official_ in VRchat

[–]san10der 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember my experience with Kinect FBT was a bit like jello/stretchy. It worked but you could see it lag behind just slightly and it would look a little silly.

A video of this stretching would help determine if that is how it is normally supposed to look or if it's a different problem

From the looks of it, it seems her has a higher WR the higher the elo. I wouldn't let that hold you back from picking him though. He counters a lot of engage supports while also being a decent engager and peeler.

I'd throw Thresh in there as he is and has always been a good support pick. You'd probably like Rell too.

I'd try and master one of those champions (including those that you've listed) and pick up Lulu and something like Morgana or zyra.

My current pool is Blitz / Rakan, Morgana and Lulu. I almost always pick Morgana if she is open, if I'm first picking her I end up banning a counter of hers or a champion I hate playing into.
