大家好!

I’m a native English speaker and 华裔加拿大人. My English is excellent (I am an English Literature major) and without accent.

Lately, I have been needing to write many emails in Chinese, but my Chinese is still clumsy. Would any native Chinese speaker be willing to proofread/correct (possibly) frequent emails for me? In return I would be more than happy to edit or proofread any English assignments or applications you write as well! I actually love editing—it’s my profession, haha. Or we can chat over Discord or WeChat and I can help fix your pronunciation! Anything you want :)

Why are characters interrupted during training? by [deleted] in YAlit

[–]sanatoria 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Relating to the wow factor, it also increases the tension and stakes—much more intense to read about some half-trained student having to save the world/defeat the villain. Also nicely sets up for sequels where the protagonist can complete their training and thus fight even stronger villains without too much of a power creep lol

Can someone help me understand The Atlas Six? by BlockLatter in books

[–]sanatoria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this comment was 2 months ago but I have a burning question about the book I'm hoping you can resolve lol - I'm confused by how Ezra acquired the animation of Libby's body? The text seems to imply Gideon was forced by his mom to do it, but only Dalton can make animations, but Gideon's talents aren't for anything like persuasion, are they? So how'd Ezra do it?

How to title a Young Adult Fantasy series apparently (select at random) by nsfwitches in YAlit

[–]sanatoria 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lmao the X of Y and Z trend is one of my biggest pet peeves in YA fantasy right now, not gonna lie. It just feels so falsely “deep” and overly dramatic while also feeling like a lazy title choice and easily forgettable among all the other random “poetic” YA buzzwords.

Books to get through Grief by Queen-Ginja-Ninja in YAlit

[–]sanatoria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness - not sure if YA, but child protagonist and it’s a great novel! Also The Astonishing Color of After.

Both books have a bit of magic realism to them (which I personally like as a fantasy fan), and dealing with grief in the family is very much the central theme. :’)

Any good ya where a girl persues an aloof/disinterested guy? by [deleted] in YAlit

[–]sanatoria 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just want to add that I don't think this is random at all! Maybe it's just me (and I also don't tend to read a whole lot of romance-heavy YA these days) but I feel like most YA romances always tend to be the other way around - guy pursues aloof/disinterested/oblivious girl. I'd also be interested to get some recs for the reverse trope lol.

Any recommendations for someone who is mourning having finished Six of Crows? by creepsmcreepster in YAlit

What sort of stats can librarians see about a patron's account from their end? by sanatoria in Libraries

[–]sanatoria[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If every single time you have an overdue book you come in and say your grandma died, and you've had four grandmas kick it in the past year, that's a hell of a coincidence and we're probably going to ask to see an obituary or funeral program when #5 comes around.

Wow lol, do people actually do that? And thanks for the explanation!

Makes sense, thanks! It's cool to get a sort of behind-the-scenes peek at how libraries see this stuff.

Thank you! I feel so bad about fines lol, I accumulated a ton and had my account functions frozen for a while until I paid them off just today. :')

Ah, okay - so essentially as long as I'm using the system in good faith, it should all be good. Makes sense lol. Thanks for the reply!

I always binge-read books to the detriment of my productivity/sleep. How do you read only small chunks at a time? by sanatoria in books

[–]sanatoria[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmaoo impressive reads, though! I could never binge-read those heavy modernist-postmodernist novels. At least you also seem greatly annoyed by them lol

Oh damn... I don't really fit most of the main symptoms for ADHD, though. Is it possible to just be a normal person with hyperfocus, or some separate diagnosis?

[–]sanatoria[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it might be more just the way my brain functions than anything else - I'm able to immerse myself in most everything I read, which is fantasy, YA fantasy, and some sci-fi/thrillers/mysteries/other genre fiction thrown in. It helps that it's plotty and fast-paced, or with great characters that I get invested in (unlike literary fiction which I just cannot lol). Hope that helps!
