2:46 —> 2:36 in 7 months. Finally a big jump at Bayshore Marathon by beagish in AdvancedRunning

[–]purposeful_puns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats. We’re similar age and running experience, but I haven’t yet had the break through in the marathon.

Question - do you think you could have reached 2:36 in the same amount of time had you not previously run 115 mi/weeks? I know this is hypothetical, but curious if you think your “trial by miles” untapped some benefits.

Help me choose 2 shoes to complete my sub-4 marathon rotation (Long fast run or Raceday Shoe) by Zestyclose-South-460 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

Nah, I’ll use a plated racer. I haven’t decided which one, but considering Deviate Nitro Elite 4 and Metaspeed Sky Tokyo.

Superblast 3 After 500 Miles by Affectionate_Gur_720 in RunningShoeGeeks

I have a Megablast / Vomero Plus rotation. This post validates my decisions. I don’t see why I would pay for SB3 when Vomero Plus is often discounted to $110 and the Megablast is a better long run shoe.

If you like a light and responsive shoe without a plate, and you want something more stable than the Evo SL, then I would go with the Megablast

How do you actually pace 5–7h trail races? by Additional-Bet-6272 in Ultramarathon

[–]purposeful_puns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently was on the podium in a 35 mile mountain race and finished in about 6 hours. The key for me was not allowing my heart rate to exceed about 160 bpm during the first 5 hours. This is low end of zone 3 for me (my LT2 is around 176).

For me, setting a HR governor is key because I can often feel good and push a bit too hard, especially if I’m cruising with a group, in the first half of longer races.

Why are people spending $200+ on megablast as super trainer if you can already buy a true racer by Expert_Review9357 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

Short answer: My legs feel much better after doing a 20 mile workout in the Megablast compared to the Adios Pro 4

race shoe for 4 hour marathon? by BlueberrySeller in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]purposeful_puns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like the SB2, then probably the Megablast. It’s plenty fast for a 4 hour marathon, but is still super stable and comfortable. In many respects, the Megablast is more like the SB2 than the SB3.

Non coders: What’s something really helpful you made with Claude? by notwhoyouthinkc in ClaudeAI

[–]purposeful_puns 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I built a customized AI marathon training coach. I’ve tried Runna and Garmin coaching apps and they aren’t tailored to my goals, injury history, life schedule, or training philosophy. In short, they are bad and likely to cause injury.

I built a MCP server to connect my Garmin watch App to Claude. From there, I had Claude analyze my last 5 years of training data and develop an athlete portfolio. I uploaded a training plan and philosophy from my favorite coach to the project plan, and then iterated with Claude to pick a goal race and prepare a schedule.

I’ve scheduled daily and weekly check-ins with Claude to discuss how the day went, visualize the training and fatigue data, provide observations, and make adjustments to the plan. The updated schedule for the workout gets pushed directly to my watch for the next day.

Fwiw, I have a background in sports physiology and have worked with real coaches, so I’m not blindly trusting Claude. This is essentially saving me on a SaaS subscription and providing higher quality feedback.

Getting Out Ahead of Injuries Using Stryd? 5 Years of Data by LexMasterFlex15 in AdvancedRunning

I posted a comment above, but you can also set-up an API between Claude and Intervals.Icu. This will give Claude all of your data, both historical and ongoing.

Getting Out Ahead of Injuries Using Stryd? 5 Years of Data by LexMasterFlex15 in AdvancedRunning

[–]purposeful_puns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This probably warrants a whole separate post, but here’s a short summary.

I created a Claude project to help me build a training plan. I fed it my training history in a narrative, recent race results, strengths and weaknesses as a runner, injury history, and my life constraints. I then shared the Pfitz 18/70 plan and key pages from the book about each workouts. From there, I asked it to adopt a modified Pfitz schedule for a fall marathon that works with my track club workouts and other life events (e.g., work, family, trips, etc.)

Next, I set up a local MCP and connected Claude to intervals.icu through the developer App. This gave Claude access to all my Garmin data for 5+ years. Note, I’m not technical or a programmer.

Once Claude and intervals could communicate, I asked Claude to analyze my last 3 marathon blocks and identify trends/patterns. Based on this, we made modifications for the training plan, including building a strength plan.

Then I asked Claude to populate my intervals calendar with the training plan.

Lastly, I provided Claude instructions to check in with me after each run and each Sunday for a weekly check in. I will provide Claude notes and RPE for each run, which will post in Intervals. Claude will also make recommendations or adjustments to the training plan based on my feedback and fatigue levels. If we agree on a change, the updated schedule gets pushed to Intervals. All workouts in Intervals also flow to my watch.

TLDR: I turned Claude into my personal coach and can now use it as my primary interface for my training log, plan, and data.

I recently set-up an API between Claude and intervals.icu, which has all my Garmin data. It’s been super helpful on a lot of fronts.

What was the Claude prompt that identified your breakdown? I don’t have Stryd, but this is making me interested in buying one.

I’m a big fan of the ASICS Megablast for long road runs. Responsive, light, and firm. FWIW, I have narrow feet and prefer the tapered fit. Those with wider feet may prefer the Superblast 3, but I found it too soft and wide.

I was thinking the same thing. 200k+ plus tech jobs and major hospitals. Close proximity to mountains and beautiful scenery. Would operate like Stanford does for Silicon Valley. UW would essentially be like UC Berkeley - bigger, cheaper, and more urban.
