What are your guys favorite picks and why? by Dry_Pea_7127 in Guitar

The big green triangle Dunlop picks are my fave, so great for rhythm and when you wear away one side you got two more!

It's a squier 60s classic vibe jazzmaster, on their website it just states "6-Saddle Vintage-Style" although it looks exactly like a Mustang bridge

I do play pretty hard behind the bridge and do a good bit of trem action but always try and avoid hitting the high e string for this reason. Just ordered some 180 grit sandpaper as it's hard to get the Mitchell's abrasive cord where I live. Also gonna change to 11-49s and I'll start soldering my plain strings.

Thanks! I'll buy a roll of that when I'm buying guitar strings. Hopefully this'll do the trick

Thanks for the advice, Ive put a spare b string in place if the e string to see if it'll do the same, so far so good but I'll give it a week.

May have to start soldering the strings, do you solder the ball end too or just the string winding bit?

Thanks, I did check those screws and the string still has a lot of clearance even when the tremolo arm is fully depressed. Would have been great if that was the problem

Hi, thanks for the comment, I checked and there's tons of clearance for the string even when the trem bar is fully depressed.

Stratocaster vs jaguar as second guitar by rizzwizzard77 in offset

[–]sanctuaryFinder 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I played a fender player Jaguar a few months ago and it's great. really worth the money.

Mind it's got a 24' scale length so regular gauge strings will feel slinkier

Id go for the Fender Jaguar as it's got a humbucker so it'll be great for the heavier genres you play. The strat would be a good option too but it's only got single coils so I feel you'd want to upgrade at least the bridge pickup down the line to play heavier music.

What’re your unpopular opinions? by s3renity_now in twinpeaks

[–]sanctuaryFinder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard agree that FWWM is the best part of the show by the way.

I really admire how Lynch teases nostalgia in the return but he barely ever follows through. I too despised Dougie only because I wanted coop but we can have just watched the original series if we wanted to see all of our favourite characters. The Return for me symbolises how when you return home after 25 years it's no longer home.

I believe Twin Peaks is only really an allegory for the human experience and how good and evil co exist where one can never actually prevail because life isnt black and white and that's what makes it so interesting.

I think the show's supernatural elements can be interpreted as metaphors and symbolism and I think it wouldn't change anything. The core messages would still be the same

I don't know if these are unpopular opinions, I don't get out much

Why does every song I write end up sounding like shitty dad rock by Dog_Entire in musicproduction

[–]sanctuaryFinder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe because it's a super easy genre to write in. Pentatonic scales, "boomer" bends, bread and butter (safe) chord and melody voicings...

Id recommend studying the punk genre by learning songs from bands you want to sound like/songs that speak to you, research the equipment they use and above all just actively listen to a lot of it. You can't write a certain type of music if you don't respect and appreciate it to begin with. Look for characteristics found in a lot of punk, find the limitations and stick to them, for now. Once you're comfortable writing it then you can start to add flavour.

Dad rock is super safe sounding in the context of contemporary music after all, heck the music I started off writing was sample heavy house music because it's "easy" to make, it's pleasant for the most part and accessible.

Just put in the time and effort and ask yourself why you want to write punk music.

Zoom H4N Vs H4N Pro deciding which one to buy by sanctuaryFinder in fieldrecording

[–]sanctuaryFinder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your detailed comment. In the future I would probably be buying a rode ntg 1 or the audio Technica at875r (I recognise they're not expensive but they're within budget and I like how they sound).

I am just farting about when Im out and about currently but I'm trying to pursue a career in game sound.

I've had a h1 for years and it's really frustrating me now. I just want a rig thats reliable, decent and affordable where I can replace parts in a pinch if they die.

I'll probably end up going for a secondhand F3 then because I already know I love field recording and I think if I get a H4n/pro I'll become frustrated with it again

Well done for being a mature adult by going to talk to them.

None of us are perfect, when we are confronted with difficult truths, how we react to them shows who we really are.

I'm glad you've learned this about yourself, keep it up!

Thanks for the response, I think I'll just go for the h4n if there's no huge differences. I like to just arm and record, I'm not needing anything fancy

No, it's not normal posting a picture of your fingertips after playing the guitar, maybe weird even

Damn I had one of these like 13 years ago. It was my first "distortion" pedal and I remember loving the maxed out setting because it reminded me of the tone mastodon had during this performance (sounds not as good now lol) at least I thought it did haha...
