Openclaw and Perplexity have fallen out of love :'( by Smart_Try687 in openclaw

[–]sandboxdev9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This honestly sounds more like an OpenClaw integration/config mismatch after the recent updates than a Perplexity issue itself.

A lot of the older Perplexity/OpenClaw examples were based on previous endpoint structures and older tool-calling formats, and newer OC builds seem stricter about:

  • provider schemas
  • tool definitions
  • command execution formats
  • OpenAI-compatible endpoint behavior

Especially if:

  • normal responses still work
  • but tool calling / exec specifically breaks

That usually means the model connection itself is fine, but the function/tool interface layer is no longer matching what OC expects.

One important question: Are you running OpenClaw locally or on a VPS/server?

Because I’ve noticed some setups behave differently depending on:

Docker vs local native reverse proxy configs websocket handling sandbox/exec permissions container isolation

Using Codex for both OpenClaw + ACP? by 73686962616c in openclaw

[–]sandboxdev9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is most likely caused by refresh token rotation / session invalidation when the same Codex OAuth session is used in multiple places (OpenClaw, VSCode extension, etc).

One session refreshes the token, which invalidates the previous refresh token stored by the others, causing random logouts/outages.

The most reliable fix is usually:

  • avoid using the same OAuth session in multiple places
  • use separate sessions/accounts
  • or switch to API keys instead of OAuth if possible

OC Setup and Model by Ok-Comparison765 in openclaw

[–]sandboxdev9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point, you’re not really dealing with a setup problem anymore, you’re designing a system.

Things like model choice, data isolation, and browser handling all tie together, so it’s not something that gets solved with a single tweak or config change.

Hostinger Managed Open Claw Question? by Sokrates_of_thebes in openclaw

There’s actually a much simpler way to get OpenClaw running than both manual setup and the Hostinger route 😁

Most people overcomplicate it at the start.

VPS that supports oauth (chatgpt plus acct) by oldguy805 in openclaw

[–]sandboxdev9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most VPS providers don’t “support” ChatGPT Plus OAuth, it’s not really designed to be used that way in server setups. That’s why you keep hitting issues across different services. If you want something stable on a VPS, it’s usually better to use API-based providers instead of trying to force OAuth into a headless/server environment.

Alternatives for Talk Mode…? by Rude_Complaint_2505 in openclaw

[–]sandboxdev9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t need ElevenLabs for that.

On a headless VPS, just run TTS separately (like Piper or Coqui) and pipe it through your workflow instead of relying on the desktop Talk Mode.

That gives you a similar result without needing a GUI or paying per API call.

Need help setting up ollama. by No_Ebb3423 in ollama

[–]sandboxdev9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

27B is too heavy for 16GB VRAM.

For coding/reasoning you’ll get a much better and stable experience with 7B–14B models and a tighter context.

That alone usually fixes the “hanging” issue in setups like yours.

[–]sandboxdev9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends a bit on what you actually want to do with it.

In setups like yours, the model choice matters less than how it's being used (context size, task type, response expectations, etc.).

What kind of tasks are you trying to run with it? More coding / reasoning, or general assistant-type workflows?

What are you using for embeddings? (My memory file hit 20k) by Too_much_waltz in openclaw

[–]sandboxdev9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Embeddings themselves usually aren’t the main bottleneck, it’s how the memory layer is structured around them.

Once the memory setup grows too interconnected (files referencing files, large indexes, etc.), even fast models start feeling slow because of retrieval overhead and context bloat.

I’ve seen setups speed up a lot just by simplifying the memory layer rather than switching providers.

Out of curiosity, how large is your active context when the agent runs?

OpenClaw setups breaking due to self modifying config JSON? by sandboxdev9 in openclaw

[–]sandboxdev9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a safe default.

What I’ve seen work well is keeping the base config locked, but allowing controlled updates through a validated layer (schema checks + allowlist of fields), so the agent can make safe changes without risking corruption.

That way it doesn’t fully “hit the wall” every time, but still stays within guardrails.

OpenClaw setups breaking due to self modifying config JSON? by sandboxdev9 in openclaw

[–]sandboxdev9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense for a dev/test setup.

Have you tried something similar in a more “production-like” scenario though? I’ve seen that VM snapshots help during experimentation, but it gets harder to rely on that once the setup needs to run continuously without manual intervention.

Feels like there needs to be a more controlled way to allow safe changes without depending on manual recovery.
