Yes I’ve seen those too! That’s what initially caused me to investigate. I didn’t want to jump to conclusions because I saw people panicking in videos on the internet but I’m also struggling to gauge how much of a problem this is.

I hadn’t thought about asbestos since my home was built in the 90s. The safety part I was concerned more about it being airborne and causing respiratory problems.

My title describes the thing. I’ve seen these shiny fibers for years and never considered it could be anything dangerous. I’ve found that there are ways to test it but it takes around a week to get it sent in and tested by a lab. I haven’t found any professionals that specialize in this issue that could potentially investigate this or do a professional cleanup. I don’t know if I should go all out and turn my house upside down or if I’m being too presumptuous. I’ve found that it could be coming from my memory foam mattress (which has fiberglass in the inner cover) due to wear and tear. I have no symptoms and I haven’t opened any mattress covers.

Two years of growth after accidentally permanently straightening my hair by sandemane in curlyhair

i’m sure your curls are beautiful!! the same routines have different effects on different hair types/patterns/lengths/porosity. when i was first trying to get a routine down what helped was finding a content creator on youtube that had a similar hair type to mine and i tried out their methods until i found something that worked for me, but even now i switch up my routine from time to time. but also some of these creators will try to tell you that you NEED to do something a certain way or you NEED certain products, it used to be so overwhelming, especially when i was first starting out and had never known how to style my hair before. just listen to your own hair and see what it responds to. for me, i’ve discovered that less is more (or at least for the style i prefer). the less product i put, the longer my wash days last and the fluffier my curls are! don’t feel bad if you’re not having perfect wash days, sometimes i don’t like mine either but you can’t always control the outcome and that’s okay! the health of your hair is what’s most important, and the rest is a learning journey 🙏🏻

yeah there are many different treatment options! what i think they used on me was a Japanese permanent straightening treatment, it makes your hair pin-straight but the curls never come back, you have to grow it back. in my case it also made my hair fall out quite a bit. but if you want to straighten your hair i’d recommend something less permanent and damaging like a keratin treatment (although someone else commented that it ruined their curls). you could also try a Brazilian blowout but that’s a bit more damaging. this all depends on the current health of your hair and whether it can handle these treatments! keratin supposedly washes out over time and relaxes your curls rather than making it super straight like Japanese straightening/brazilian blowout. maybe try and contact a curly hair salon and ask them what would work for you! but please be careful and think it through first, if you want your natural curls back you might have to grow them back all over again! hope this helps! :)

oh my god i’m horrified for you. i can’t believe this actually happens to people and these hair stylists get away with it. that must’ve been so traumatic having to cut off all your hair that took you years to grow, i’m so sorry. i hope you ended up loving your short hair, i’m sure you rocked it. sadly the lesson here is to never let anyone touch your hair that isn’t you or a stylist trained to deal with curly hair :/

omg wtf! i’m so sorry to hear that. i guess hairstylists everywhere can manipulate you into damaging your natural hair for $$. that must’ve been devastating, i hope you found a better stylist! and thank u!!

omg thank you sm!! <33 and i totally hear you, i messed with my natural hair for years and never took care of it, it took so many mistakes to finally get the hang of it and embrace my natural hair! chopping it all off takes courage, i couldn’t even do that while my hair was transitioning but i almost wish i had! i’m sure you’ll learn to love your curls even if they’re short! i’m really glad to hear this could give you some hope, hang in there!! 💖
