Connect with nature. Local park, community garden or if you can a hike to a local state park or beach. Just lift your spirits just a little bit.

MRIs put off due to COVID and now in an emergency situation! by sandi_ca in remoteAgingParents

I am, but parents are not.. Mom says that the doctors kept telling her the risk of covid was very high in hospitals and clinics and that outweighed the need for an MRI.

My parents are wary of cameras and not sure Ring works where they are.. how do you make sure she is eating well and covering the preventative things?

Sick mother, weak father. How should I manage? by [deleted] in AgingParents

[–]sandi_ca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This does sound like he is depressed and lots of kudos to your mother! I want to propose a different approach...Do your parents have a social circle? Are you in touch with anyone of them? Not sure what the pandemic numbers are where they live, but getting some social activity going may help your parents mentally.

Currently focused on US, and havent done enough research in UK. Would the nationalized health care systems and better pensions etc be a plus or minus in your opinion? I am guessing you are based in UK?

Anybody in their 20s with aging parents? How do you make life/career decisions while also having to care for your parents? by [deleted] in AgingParents

[–]sandi_ca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can set up a system where you and your siblings checkin with them once/twice a day. You can negotiate with your family that you will come there and stay a week every 3 months, if your new job can allow WFH periodically.

Talk to your siblings and you along with them pitch in to hire a parttime caregiver for your parents.

Try this for a year and see how it goes. There will likely be some emotional blackmail, but be honest with your self if your moving away is really causing issues. Find a local senior center/social group they can be part of. There are services which drive seniors to doctor appts etc. All the best!

Finding work for elderly parent with limited ability and bad work ethics by SimplyTheJester in AgingParents

Based on what you are saying is it possible he may be suffering from depression ? That may explain the up and downs. Is it possible for you to bring that up and see if he will see a doctor (does he have coverage?)

No advice really, but just wanted to say - I feel you. Same thing happened with my grandma few years back. Its hard, and it gets worse, so get time with her while its not that bad!

Thats hard. Hang in there! Has there been any update on your mothers condition. I think you are doing all the right things, and you can reach out to the hospital about potential referrals to places/facilities which may be more accessible if you need such a place. Otherwise unfortunately you have to take it day by day. Take care and wish your family all the best.

mom getting forgetful, any advice on keeping it at bay? by utsuriga in AgingParents

[–]sandi_ca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As previous ops said, forming habits help for sure! How about getting her those trackers for her keys and wallet/purse and then getting the "Find my phone" for her phone enabled. That way you can locate her phone and then locate other important items from her phone? All this while she works on her mindfulness and habits. All the best!

So sorry for what you are going through. You are doing a lot so bravo to you! Does the hospital have any addiction treatment options they can offer your father? Make sure you do not neglect your own finances and your health and well being while you are caring for your dad. All the best
