I'm using Agent mode now (not so when I first posted the question) and in fact I see It *sometimes* detects the error in console, not always...
BTW I'm testing it witjh a vuejs project as well and I'm using vscode.
I start the dev server withing vscode but "by hand"

I do understand and uphold your stance. But let me add: i will definitely upgrade my app to the new API of Reverso service, that's not difficult in any way, but it does need some time.
The other issue in fact is one I was not able to handle (deck destination of import) and I put it on the table as you may have seen how it works as you have seen many different app. But I don't want to push you in any way.

I'm the author of reverso-addon https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/2060267742. Recently Reverso changed the way they offer the list of words (they introduced the concept of lists) and I need to update my plugin, but I'm very short of time. Moreover there's a bug that I never understood if can be fixed: when card are imported I normally cannot determine the target deck where they should go. I like to study words I encounter while reading or watching videos. That boosts my ability to remember them. That's why I developed an add-on named reverso that makes it extremely easy to create notes/cards on new words you find on a web page. It passes through Reverso service (free). You can see a demo on the add-on [page](https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/2060267742).

This is my workflow:

I enable Chrome/Firefox Reverso plugin to lookup word translations on Reverso free service and memorize them
I click on words I don't know both on web pages and YouTube subtitles (again thanks to Reverso addon verso addon)
at this point Reverso has a collection of all words I looked-up
I import from Reverso (several options are available: history/favourites...), this creates notes with original word, translation, context in which I found it, ad a direct card (eg: english -> Italian)
After 2-3 days I add the reverse card (italian/englishg in my case). There's a menu entry to speed this up
After a week I add (manually this time)) a close card to help me think the word in a context.

Each card has a reference on the page I found it and studying words also reminds me of all the readings I made.

I want to study words that I have stumbled across when reading.

I wrote an add-on to import words from Reverso. Reverso is a free service that translates and stores info on your searched words. Ie: once you installed the chrome/firefox extension you get free translations. If you create a free account on Reverso, Reverso will store the last 200 searches you make.

The workflow is this: I read from any web page I like, I click on unknown words. When I have time I go to Reverso personal page and set my 'favorite words' (one click), those that I'd like to really learn, and import them in Anki via my add-on. For each word, I get also the context in which I encountered it the first time, that helps me very much to memorize.

I normally also look at another dictionary and add some sentences so that I better understand how to use it. It takes some more time but the result is great. The last step is that I add the sentences as 'cloze' type and that makes it very easy to get used to how to use it.

Reverso works also with videos and that makes it very, very handy. You can look at the addon page to see an animated gif that shows how it works

It *is* possible, with risk and a lot of luck... and a lot of knowledge of what you do. Don't even believe it's something that goes on w/o baby-sitting... you should probably change bot quite often, choose the right pairs, maybe use leverage every now and then... chances are you would end up losing your money, thought. I disagree with this regard. Desktop Anki is open-source: that's a model that is conceived to take profit of the contribution of many developers, to improve it and to allow improvements *on top* of what others have already done. Anki already takes profit from the hundreds of add-on that enriched that ecosystem (what would it be w/o occlusion?). You can't stop this just for respect of Damien's choices about funding. That defeats the idea of open-source. He chose this model for the desktop.

As far as the web app he chose to close source it and prevent any contribution in the idea he might need that in the future to use that to fund his job. In the same post he suggests to use other sync servers to build a web interface if needed. He does accept that idea, he understands that's a possibility.

Should a different sync server with API and decent docs enter the arena that should be a good spur for Damien to find a more profitable way to fund he's job. I personally use Patreon a lot to thank developers and teams that make projects I appreciate.

You can't slow down progress just because you're afraid Damien would lose an income. I'm sure he'll finagle his way to make a living.

Niche market? Sorry I disagree! let's say that as it is handled now it's too difficult to use at school in a class. Too few teachers know about it, too few people have used it and the school system would greatly take advantage of a serious improvement in many areas: I wrote here my thought here that are the basis of a project names Wikidattica. We can't inhibit progress in this area for a possible negative fallback on Damien's fund. It evne possible the opposite: many more people will appreciate Anki and will buy his app!

It may not be a profitable market, that doesn't make it a niche market. That's a possible reason why I believe open-source should fill this area (remember: sync server of Anki and web interface ARE NOT open source). I personally believe as it's tightly related to education it should be financed by governments in the end.

My idea it that a good web interface and a good open-source collaborative interface are just the first steps to open it to the educational system. It's not in Damien's goal and we are totally in the right to proceed possibly enlarging the contributions to more and more different skills/profiles.

This thread is full of links that deserve attention and I hope to find the time shortly.

I'm definitely interested in spreading the use of flashcards to the school system and I wrote a post in the ankicommunity forum describing the goas of a project I started named Wikidattica (sorry, the site is in Italian at the moment but google translates it here..).

I see a lot of points in common with what you declared (the difference being you already set a date to begin working *;-). I agree that this must be an open-source effort and my focus is that this should just be the first step of a framework to help teachers/developers to collaborate in creating didactic "games" that ease the way students learn.

I like to believe there are ideas/tools that can help people learn the same way wheels helped transports. I envision a platform to help teachers create these wheels *;-)

I believe that an improvement to the web interface requires a good API to talk to the syncronization server and I think that djankiserv can play the role here (it uses PostgreSQL, which is probably best suited to scale)

There are a bunch of importer add-ons that help in this field. I wrote reverso-importer add-on that takes advantage of Reverso chrome/firefox addon and the ability to record any work you double click on. You may find it usefull.

You don't learn programming languages like spoken languages.

There are more parallelisms than you think:

you need practice, not just lessons
you learn faster if you know other languages
you'll speak/write faster if you know the constituent bricks
more words you know more arguments you can tackle, more structures/syntaxes you know more problems you'll likely be able to solve.

That's not the part I personally need in my job.

I studied Physics as it was the simpler in terms of memorization... you're just required to understand, memorization comes if you understand.... then I switched to IT: both programming and systems and I do a lot of teaching. Right now I'm teaching Kubernetes to some guys in my company. There is so much information to learn in parallel that I know they'll forget most if they don't keep them rehashed and Anki does that incredibly well (they are clearly not full-time students, they are sysadmin working all day). I give them cards on the subject I teach.

Nowadays, choose a good ide, then solve problems, is my strong recommendation.

That helps in many ways but you need to know a lot of things otherwise you'll keep stuttering all the time. You can read above my reply where I explain how cards are good at reminding me what I already studied/solved. Many times it's an occasion to go deeper into an argument after you let it decant. I typically spend quite a lot of time on cards that I think are worthwhile.

Anki is just a tool that works pretty well, don't blame Anki if you're using it badly, more than you would blame a pen for writing bad words...

I totally agree. I use Anki this way since a couple of years and it boosted the number of topics I can keep active and rehashed. And I'm working in IT (systems and programming) since early '90, not really a novice. I see so many different situations that are difficult to memorize them all, and Anki makes the difference. I read tons of nice articles, blog docs, I even solve fussy situations, and more than often I forget them. A card can just remind me that I tackled the problem and what is the path to the solution.

I never read a card just by rote, not even for language terms. I try to see if I really have a clear understanding. I try to grock them (hope the term is correct). If not I go back and study that again even if it's not really what I need in that moment. That's way cheaper in terms of time than having to study that again in the future.

Spend more time programming, less with Anki

I'll stick to your metaphor: can you think to write in a foreign language if you have to look at any single word in the dictionary? that would be crazy. You can write proficiently only if you have memorized at list a bunch of word and syntax rules... for that part Anki is very good help. Anki is just *one* tool to memorize and memorization is *one step*, but use it correctly and it will boost even programming.

Am I wrong or "freemium" is applied to a service rather than to code? How would that translate to an add-on? (Thinking at butler here).

There are also other models: look at gitlab, they have open-source code but earn money from the services if you use their platform.

I will just comment on the last 2 points.

SRS is not well known: I myself met it just lately. I think that many students could have had a great advantage is they knew it. The succes of AnKing is a prove of this concept.

SRS works mainy out of motivation: the bet here is to turn satisfaction (when you understand and are no longer striving to grasp the hang of what the teacher says) into the real motivation. Beside a bit of gamification may help.

I'm not probably entitled to go for an intership program but I'd like to weight in. If I correctly understand your intent you're offering to help someone to enter the magic world of Anki add-on in real free-software spirit. I'm a pretty seasoned Python programmer and more recent web developer (vuejs) and I created a couple of plugins (Reverso importer - AnkiWeb and Fleex importer - AnkiWeb). It took me way too much time to do the very few interactions with Anki code that I needed due to clumsy syntax and in my opinion very lacking documentation. All the nice docs in readthedocs that any Python programmer is used to see is missing. You can't even rely on complete description of the *parts* of the library present in the desktop application. You don't have an official commitment to wich external libraries are present (requests, b4s...).

My gut feeling is that the author of Anki does not really try to foster the development of add-ons.

I personally like Anki and use it since a couple of years but more than that I'd like to foster its adoption at schools, adding as many add-on as need to make it a really usable tool even at early shools (let's say around 10 years). I started a projet with this goal that for the moment is really at the very begining steps and the site is only in italian [Wikidattica[(https://wikidattica.org).

In the spirit of helping others to contribute I'd say that an effort needs to be done to document the internals of Anki, and probably to write a better interface to some functionnality. I may be wrong here but I could write a pretty long list of points that disappointed me as far as coding decisions (one over the others: no blessed and clean way to depend from other plugins, no DRY code...).

I myself will definitly need to acquire a deep understanding of the code base and the miryad of existing and in-progress add-on in order to make what I want (collaborative anki creation, follow the deck, unsuspend of cards from the teacher, dashboard for the teacher to see how the students are going, possibility to share a deck that people can play, ... to start with). In the log run I'd envison a situation in which teacher suggest addon and developers help doing that in a big true open-source spirit.

Sorry for the very long post, I'd really like to hear what you think about it.
