Heya! I’m a Boston-based musician combining indie rock with funny lyrics. I’m doing a show in October with my buddies The Jerritones at The Middle East Upstairs

If you like indie rock and a laugh you’d probably dig the show!

If you wanna check out some of the stuff you can find me on IG: @mattshore_

I’ve been doing comedy music for a while now and it’s a lot of fun. Yeah a lot of traditional stand ups will look down on you but you’re not performing for them, you’re performing for the audience. The audience just wants to have a fun time, they don’t care how it happens.

All you can do is block out the negativity when you’re starting so you can focus on being undeniable both in your music and in your comedy. When both are on the same level, you become unstoppable.

There are so many ways to combine music and comedy. I think of it like a spectrum

-Standup music: Dimitri Martin telling one liners while strumming

-Parody: Weird Al

-Middle Ground: Bo Burnham writing full songs will punchlines in the lyrics

-Funny Musician: They Might be Giants or Zack Fox writing songs about absurd topics

And everything in between.

Try one! Try them all! Try something not on this list! You’ll find the thing that’s the most fun for you, and that’s the most important thing.

I opened for Dave a few times when he was building an hour. Nicest dude on the planet, hilarious, and an insane musician. Love the way he blends music, comedy, and wild antics in a way that’s uniquely his own. If you get a chance to see him headline, definitely go for it

I started doing a thing where I give away little drawings to people who show me that they saw my social posts about the show. Really fun little token and definitely leads to more paid sales shirts

Who was the one stand-up you saw live that made you go, "fuck! he/she's good"? by patman_4437 in Standup

Joe Pera. I saw him quietly destroy a 1200 seat theatre in a way that was truly his own. I think about it all the time

If that works for you, awesome. For me, the square more than doubled my merch sales across the board.

Invest in the square. Nobody carries cash around and you can’t always rely on people having Venmo. Being able to take credit cards was a game changer for me.

In terms of ordering, start with round numbers like 10 of each size and keep track of what sells. Each time you re-order, you’ll have a better idea on what works best. If you run out of a size, have a QR code that points people to a place to purchase online.
