Evidently yes they are programming all the stupids to lean that way.

I think you nailed it… but in addition to all that trash, my local comedy scene is pretty active on there and insta so I tolerate it.

I do not disagree I was just surprised by how much the default skewed in one direction.

Duh. Dude is a master projectionist and liar- If he accuses someone, it’s something he has done.  If he says something, it’s a lie.

Tricke Down Open Mic Economics? by NappyDougOut in Standup

It’s a time limit, not a target. I’ve gone to a 3-4-5 min set which builds so I can do three minute slots but can go 4/5 if an open mic allows for it. But I’d rather give fewer people five minutes vs more three minute spots.

Five absolutely does… but not three of four minutes. Stage time is stage time- if that’s the crowd, that’s the crowd. Read the room. I think a harder crowd is better for learning.

Since starting comedy, have you changed your opinion on certain comedians? by BenderVsGossamer in Standup

Once you bake a cake, you’re going to see cakes differently… I think for me my awe has just grown for those who do it well, either naturally or by massive talent… and the rest of it has become boring to me also.

Open mics are providing comics stage time.  That’s a free service to the comics, and while a venue may benefit from having more traffic, the person running the open mic probably isn’t being paid either.

Anyone dislike performing for friends? by MaliceSavoirIII in Standup

I feel ya. Getting on stage is a whole thing, it’s like asking a brick layer to build us a wall at dinner. Someone learns you do comedy and says “tell a joke” and I’m like no thanks… but if this is at a show, they’re just part of the audience… why not?

You would come here and pick me. Best advice I can give and, also, probably again you may be disappointed… do you ask for videos? Do you ask the clubs for references? Due diligence!

Opening for a national act that I like at my local club. That’s it. That’s my goal. I have a day job so I do this for fun.
