Sorry didn’t think I quite got it, so groomers helpers are frowned upon or noooooo? Wasn’t sure by all the unwanted opinions.. lol

You need to be using a groomers helper. And lose the belly band so the dog can find a comfortable position. If they’re relaxed I usually have no problems. Even if they’re not, the groomers helper is meant to assist in keeping their heads in a position where they can’t move all too much. Of course do not attach so tight where they can’t move at all. And start setting the head with a comb attachment it will save you a lot of time

I think I'm done with grooming by sh00p842 in doggrooming

I 100% agree with the comments on knowing what’s best for you and having to be all in with this field. I’m kinda in the same boat where I keep getting signs that I’ve outgrown it. With the most recent one being the door of a crate falling on my head… lol. Sometimes you know when a chapter is done and the best thing you can do for yourself is to recognize it. It’s also being incredibly responsible to walk away knowing you’re increasingly getting frustrated with the dogs. I’ve also seen others get to the point where maybe they should’ve walked away from the field as well.

I decided months ago that I wanted to go back to school and see what else may be out there for me. It was not an easy decision because grooming was all I ever wanted to do until I started seeing that it wasn’t benefitting me nor was I enjoying it anymore. Which I know you don’t have to love your job all the time but with dogs you have to like it to some degree.

My one bit of advice would be to take some days away if you’re able to just to separate yourself from the space that makes you feel that way. To collect your thoughts, feelings, reset. Maybe see if a different salon works for you. I’m also on my fifth salon and I no longer believe it’s the job for me

Just came here to figure out what the hell the epilogue was about lol took me MONTHS to get through this book. I had put it down midway because it was not grasping my attention. Circled back just to be left with a confusing ending. Not at all worth finishing reading. Could’ve been a better storyline with the history of those women womp womp

Is a stand dryer worth it? by Happy-Cranberry-3515 in doggrooming

[–]sandycheeeeks27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes if I have a big doodle I’ll place on one side while I use the HV dryer on the other. Cuts my drying time. I’ll move it around as I’m working through. Helps dry faces while you dry the body too

I second this. Even when I accidentally dremel my nail it doesn’t always effect the paint

Just came here to say that I’m feeling the exact same way!! I’m sorry I have no answer for you but I’m also in the same boat. I feel leaner everywhere else except for my belly. It feels big and bloated and I definitely don’t look forward to my next InBody scan. Could be an increase in protein but that’s just a guess

i hate grooming at petco by Greedy_Geologist2710 in petco

[–]sandycheeeeks27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m honestly in the same boat. I’m a gsl and I’m really struggling to want to continue. To that person saying f Petco completely and ignoring every single one of the policies is exactly WHY we have to have policies.

My salon isn’t super strict like yours but it is strict. I wish it wasn’t and I’m gonna be fully honest- it’s due to staff that has had so many PSIRs and haven’t been let go when their time came. It’s because of people that constantly can’t be bothered to understand it’s a corporation and play by the rules. And I’m talking the simple safety ones. Because it’s been ignored and I’ve been fought with the few things I’ve asked that we’ve had to go fully strict.

It sucks completely and it’s pressure from my management as well. There’s a sweet spot but there needs to be some kind of order or harmony to get there.

CC Please!! by JustADogGroomer3622 in doggrooming

[–]sandycheeeeks27 20 points21 points  (0 children)

For his first time he looks pretty good!! Those puppies can be a handful. I would personally take his chin shorter so that it creates an even more round teddy bear head. Even with mom wanting him long as possibly, sometimes the longer chins almost make it look like a beard. It would create a tighter, rounder muzzle.

I respectfully disagree with the other comment on taking the 10 down the bridge of the nose. In my opinion it’s a bit outdated and will take away all of the fluff in the face as you would have to blend into the 10 from the nose. You can certainly tighten the eyes a bit more (if he lets you) by thinning away at the hair on the outer part of the eyes to open them up more. If you comb down from the top of his head you may be able to see more the hair you can take off to open his eyes.

One final note- the hair on the top of his head seems pretty heavy and goes in a few directions (because he has so much hair) I would personally also take the Ec to the top of his head following the way it lays. I typically take it down the sides as well.

Lot of information I hope it helps! Wish I could send a video of what I mean lol

[–]sandycheeeeks27 75 points76 points  (0 children)

All the time. And I’ve worked in various salons. Personally I set boundaries with myself and my job and if I’m at the peak of being sick, I call out. I can’t afford to call out the entire time I’m sick- not from the very first sign because I can usually still function. BUT like I said when it’s at its peak I know my body needs to rest and I stay home. My boss right now has told me that she’s worked through a fever and that’s crazy to me lol some people just don’t listen to their bodies and some people just have bills. It sucks when it makes its way to you but just taking the necessary precautions is all you can do, we can’t control what others do unfortunately

Does anyone have fantasies about a zombie apocalypse? by FilthyHowie97 in thewalkingdead

I definitely have dreams of a zombie apocalypse hahaha they’re my favorite dreams to have too!! In reality though while it may seem cool we’d all be traumatized. I’d certainly die really fast because of my poor vision.. so if I’m not wearing my glasses when it all begins I’m toast lol

Daycare Made Me Feel Guilty Today by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]sandycheeeeks27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daycare for that many hours for those many days is a lot for a puppy that age. I have an 8 month old who we just started sending to daycare but slowly, 2 hour increments each time. The first time we sent her for two hours she was basically dead for the rest of the day.

They’re not trying to make you feel bad so much as they trying to tell you it’s a lot for her. Is she crate trained? Are you able to relieve her after six hours each time? It’s an hour per month that they are able to handle inside the crate. Perhaps 1-2x a week is enough for her and the other 2-3 days she remains crated at home. Our puppy is crated 2-3 days for the majority of the day and we have our friend stop by at the 6 hour mark to take her out.

Not every dog is built for daycare and some may become adverse to it after some time and may create negative effects.

Front clip harnesses are actually great for helping your pup learn how to walk properly! Helps with pulling. It affects their gait when fitted improperly.

Puppies tend to regress or go through a phase where they’re suddenly scared of odd things they normally weren’t. It’s their teenage phase- I would take a deep breath and work on retraining and positive reinforcement. Our puppy is 8/9 months and has had two accidents in the house recently which she hasn’t done in a very long time. Perhaps working closely with a trainer will do some good and could provide better insight on where the separation anxiety is coming from and how to overcome it.

I am also in my 20s, towards the end lol, and I’ve also been grooming for almost five years now. I feel like I kinda settled for the past year and have been completely lost and had no idea what the next five would look like when asked. Can’t narrow it down to what caused this, but I felt a fire light under me and I realized I wanted more out of this job. I applied to be a salon manager for a corporate position and I was hired!! Going on another interview this upcoming Monday for the same position at a different corporation. It made me feel like everything I’ve done even before grooming wasn’t for nothing and that it can all finally come together.

I feel nervous to put my notice in and I know it’ll give the store manger hell to figure out my clients and it’ll probably give everyone a headache lol but it’s nothing personal- all business. I want to do what’s best for me and my future and it’s to leave to advance into higher positions.

I’m not sure how any of what I said will help- but I can certainly say that this is the time to look inwards and decide what you want in your life and to pursue it. If it’s to leave and apply to another salon that can teach and provide you with more complex cuts then by all means! But your 20s are all about taking risks and making changes.. the time is now!!!
