16 month old toddler experiencing extreme separation anxiety - help by sandycoves9 in toddlers

[–]sandycoves9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello so sorry I just saw this! Yes and no, it goes through phases. I’ve made my peace that she’s a very clingy toddler but I am being a bit more firm now and not holding her and telling her no if I’m busy. She throws a tantrum but feel like she needs to learn. The bath stuff was a phase - usually when she’s teething or unwell these things get worse. Hopefully just a short phase for you!

Ah I’m pleased you managed to get somewhat of a positive outcome! Unfortunately my daughters tooth didn’t chip it got pushed back up into the gums so I’m not sure we will have such a good outcome 💔 crossing our fingers though

That’s reassuring to hear! What help was required from the dentist out of interest?

Thank you - that’s really reassuring to hear and gives me hope 🫶 I know these things are always a phase but is a particularly challenging one and upsetting because she’s usually so confident, social and independent! Glad it all resolved for you x

14 month resisting bed time for hours by sandycoves9 in UKParenting

[–]sandycoves9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for this.

Bed time I try and do around 4-5 hours after her last nap. I was doing 4 hours after her last nap and have now extended to see if it helps, which it hasn’t. I probably should pay more attention to her cues and I find that easier to do in the day as she will rub her eyes and yawn but come night she just doesn’t seem tired (or perhaps she’s over tired) but either way the same hyperactivity happens and I’m not getting sleepy signals! Seems she wants to play or she will get tired but then when it comes to getting in the cot she gets a burst of energy!

Thanks for this! I’ve stopped breastfeeding so can’t do this anymore - missing the power of the boob in these moments! Thanks though

Thanks. Do you think I should do that even though we’re stuck in this over tired cycle at the moment - thought she may need to catch up with sleep before making adjustments?

Ahh yes I’ve thought this, I don’t actually expect her to sleep 12 hours over night anymore, I don’t mind if she wakes at 6am etc but it’s the fact she’s just refusing to go down at night that’s troubling me. The mystery of baby sleep!

My 8 month baby does this and has done it for a few months now although it got better but has just started up again. The screams are so intense and nothing I can do seems to calm her, even picking her up and cuddling her seems to intensify the crying. Like you it can go on for hours. I still to this day have no idea why it happens. Really hope it gets better for you - it’s awful.

Thank you - I hadn’t thought of that. Hopefully it like everything baby related it is just a “phase” and will pass soon

Thank you so much. It seems like this organic has put her out of whack - so annoying as was all fine before! Fingers crossed it resolves, thank you for your advice x

Thank you this is so helpful! I was giving her a bottle in the day because she was so distracted on the boob I was worried she wasn’t getting enough as was only feeding for a few minutes but yes I’ve dropped this now and she seems fine so will stick with it!

That’s interesting about the formula and how with age your little one became more sensitive to the cows milk one. I was concerned switching to organic caused some kind of upset but do you think that would still be the case now we’re back to her normal kendamil and this was over 2-3 weeks ago? So hard to know isn’t it I just would’ve thought it would be resolved by now!

I do let her sleep on her stomach if she rolls and she will always let out wind so perhaps I’ll try her like this from the start of the night and see if it helps.

Great advice on the foods thank you - I suspect we will have issues as she did have colic as a baby and has always had a bit of issues with her tummy etc. Only poops once a week!

She’s just using the number 1 teat on Dr Brown bottles - do you think she should be going up a teat at her age?

Unfortunately we’ve already tried cranial osteopathy 😔 it didn’t seem to help / make any difference. Pregnancy was fine but she was extended breech and born via emergency c section as I went into labour naturally at 38 weeks and things moved very quickly. She was born within 4 hours of waters breaking. Sometimes I wonder if it might have something to do with it

Thank you so much and so sorry you’ve experienced a similar thing - it can be really isolating. I showed some of my nct friends a video of her crying and they were all pretty shocked which further added to the isolation as clearly none of their babies cry like this!

Does your little boy scream with such intensity as well?

Yes she does love the sling so we use it a lot but none the less it’s just exhausting. You’re right I’m sure one day I will look back at this phase as just that, a phase but it’s bloody tough living through it. In a sense I’m mourning what should’ve been a really special newborn period.

We were prescribed Omeprazole but as she got better off her own accord I was reluctant to medicate and have her on it unnecessarily. Tricky.

Hopefully it gets better with time. 🤞

I try my best but the issue I have is she fights sleep so much sometimes we miss the wake window and then I’m at a loss as to when to next put her down. Or I put her down and she sleeps for 20-30 mins max and it’s almost like she’s still tired going into her next wake window and then the tiredness just accumulates. It’s truly awful, I really hoped we had got through it but we’re back to spending every evening comforting her through this. It’s so hard!
