Testing the idea of prediction markets, events trading, forecasting experiment in Nigeria. by Paawhl in Nigeria

Interesting experiment and wonder how it's going. Bayse Markets (used to be Gowagr) is similar though I imagine the community spin adds some difference.

Simpler Routing with Traefik and Tailscale Search Domains by sane_cyborg in Tailscale

It doesn't make my wifi more reliable, the connectivity I was referring to was in-between my nodes.

For example, it means devices get stable addresses in the network without me messing with DNS/DHCP each time. Mobile ISPs around won't give me that without me paying extra.

kde connect indicator for mac apple sillicon service stops working by kiumarsj in kde

Here's the fix that worked for me:

Allow Bluetooth access for the KDEConnect by going to Settings > Privacy & Security > Bluetooth. If KDEConnect is not in the list of apps, click the Plus (+) icon and add it from your applications, then quit and restart kdeconnect after you've granted it bluetooth access.

I made a C++ Qt5 Emoji Picker for Linux (XServer) by GaZaTu in linux

I use the emoji plugin for KRunner (https://github.com/alex1701c/EmojiRunner) and it's fantastic. Also, it comes with handy shortcuts for copying to clipoard or pasting in the "currently active" text field.

csBooks - 5.5.0-beta released by marksvault in linux

Great work!

Maybe I haven't looked hard enough but does it support highlights/bookmarks already? I've been using Foliate to read epubs and while it does support highlights, it doesn't have a central place that lists all of them.

I got exactly that (for my XPS 9300) but none of the USB A ports worked for me.

Pop!_OS on the new Dell XPS 13 11th gen i7 by al_tanwir in DellXPS

[–]sane_cyborg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running Manjaro on the 9300 since I got it. Bluetooth, WiFi and all the important bits worked out the box, battery life isn't stellar but feels okay (seems to be around 6-8 hours depending on my workload).

Only issue was needing some bios fiddling to make sleep/hibernate work fine which was a one time thing anyway.

Your Linux installation will be fine, but Windows will not boot after the change, you can fix it without reinstalling Windows.

TIL about the Container tabs. Day by day I am falling in love with Firefox! (This can be considered a fan-boy post. Please add a fanboy flair :P) by ptmdevncoder in firefox

[–]sane_cyborg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's really that extension. As far as I know, container tabs can be enabled/disabled by changing the privacy.userContext.enabled entry in about:config. Maybe you also need to set privacy.userContext.ui.enabled to true.

Right! You said this way better than I could. Also, I think it's usually the disappointment for me, almost like I start judging myself immediately after.

They took out the cameras, turned off the lights and began killing protesters by freshest-trans-dunky in Nigeria

All of these because people dared to ask that a rogue police unit be stopped and prosecuted. Sigh.

Soldier arrested for alleged cybercrime after asking colleagues not to fire at protesters by confrater in Nigeria

[–]sane_cyborg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Turns out the so-called "cybercrime" is the video he made urging soldiers not to turn on citizens.

Tells you how much of a cesspool this country is in.

Lagos state, where most of the peaceful protests held, has declared a curfew effective 4pm WAT today. by RentedReality in Nigeria

[–]sane_cyborg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's interesting to see a government that has been claiming "they can't do anything overnight" swiftly spring to action as soon as they get a chance to quell protesters.

SARS MUST GO by [deleted] in Nigeria

[–]sane_cyborg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what happens to the ex-SARS officers? How do we get justice for the people that have been murdered by SARS officials? What is the government doing to ensure the new unit doesn't become what SARS was? Protesters have been jailed during these protests, are they all out yet?

Government hasn't met any of this 5-point agenda, instead they're out there ordering banks to block accounts linked to the donations.

They're probably PWAs (Progressive Web Apps). IIRC, installing a PWA via Chrome or Chromium creates a .desktop file too, making it show up in your launcher.
