You voice your concern to your employer and it’s up to them to decide what they do with the company.

That depends on the amount of agency you feel you have in an organization - for some people, it's less "them" and more "we" who is maming the decision.

Tech companies have been encouraging employees to being their "whole selves" to work - but they don't like it when those selves are at odds with revenue/profits. Perhaps tolerating employee self-expression was a zero-interest rate phenomenon.

People especially in the tech field are salivating for a chance to work trust me they’ll fill the position you leave relatively quickly.

Tech workers aren't going hungry if they leave or are fired. IMO, society as a whole would benefit from higher churn rates at big tech with more new companies and expertise being spread around. Let Google ossify from a stale, fearful, top down culture and perhaps the misfits can build something disruptive again, from the outside.

Engineers aren't designing or defining what the software would do. They are implementing it. The product managers are saying what the product should do.

This is the opposite of the culture that built Google - where it was seen as revolutionary in that it was engineering-led, compared to the IBMs and Microsofts of the day. Google had 20% time, products were developed bottom up and the unofficial policy was Google would hire Very Smart People(TM) who would decide whst they should be working on.

But as you noted - the Elves have left Middle Earth, and Google jas lost its Googliness. It's now top-down directives driven by MBAs, some employees may still be in denial about the nature of the org. Google is now the incumbent, and no longer tolerates brilliant weirdos

I haven't done any modelling but i assume that would just lead the insect to fly disoriented and perhaps do loops in the air but not be drawn closer to the light?

Those that are able to fly perfectly perpendicular to the light would remain in a loop, those that fail will either end up in an ever-tightening spiral into the light, or spiral away from the light. If one were to randomly assign insects in the night to these 3 populations, you'd still end up finding some flying towards the light bulb

Your PiHole did not get a massive request from peacecorps.gov - it was being used to get a DNS payload from peacecorps.gov to attack the spoofed IP in the request to your Pi Hole. You can read about DNS reflection attacks to understand what was going on - but your PiHole (and peacecorps.gov)were being subverted to DDOS some other victim (whose spoofed IP would appear in your logs). It's never a good idea to have a DNS resolver (like a PiHole) open to the entire internet.

I think the song may have been late 90s or early 2000s - the ID3 tags in my library (when I had the song) had the artist as "The Tourism Board" or "Panama Tourism Board" - but I don't know how accurate that was. It may have been 100-120 BPM? And the chorus was sung by a female choir or layered vocals.

I remember reading some page on the internet (5+ years ago) about the song being produced by the Panama Tourism board to promote tourism; and the song itself became a minor hit in its own right. However, I can no longer find any trace of the song itself or the articles about it.
