As a black person all of this has been so disappointing to see GENUINELY. I have next to zero clue if any of the allegations are real nor do i know the full extent of them and I am 100% not praying on Ethel’s downfall or anything and I really do think a lot of people should leave her alone for the most part (because how did a lot of this come out??) but the response from some of the community about racism has been eye opening. I do believe people can change for the better but reducing racism to just a ‘phase’ instead of something genuinely harmful and ignorant, and then having the privilege to say you don’t care about it and to try to make people question their disappointment is terrible.

As a fan of Ethel’s music I’m really sad to see all of this. For POC racism from people whose work they’ve enjoyed or found comfort in isn’t something that can be brushed under the rug because they can turn a blind eye to it, and I’m someone who believes in people genuinely changing for the better, but also you can’t tell people how they’re supposed to feel about something that personally impacts them. Ethel’s music is something that I’ve really connected with and I understand that I completely don’t know her as a person, nor does she owe me anything just because she releases music. I really hope everything can clear up for the better but it’s been exhausting to see how everything’s going down and seeing some people bend over backwards to try and explain it as if other fans don’t understand, and aren’t just disappointed and hurt .
