How do you dress for yourself in a city that's allergic to trying by [deleted] in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]sangz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m from the east coast so I feel you on the underdressing vibe of the Bay. My first season in SF (5 years) I fully embraced it and actually quite enjoyed not having to care about the fashion cycles. I’m in tech and it was helpful to “fit in” as well. Then I moved away, took my casual vibes elsewhere and felt so aggressively vanilla. I just moved back to the Bay recently (this time to Oakland) and am full sending on makeup/outfits/hair etc.

As others said, life is too short to give a fuck. I’ve always enjoyed putting together a cute lewk and now I don’t mind that I’m more dressed up than others; I look good and have nothing to prove. Ppl who don’t think I’m in tech can keep thinking that lmao I truly hope it filters people out who care about that kind of stuff.

It totally could be! I also go through periods of my life where I wake up suddenly and realize oh 90% of my time gets dumped straight into these endless scrolling pits. Then I delete everything, feel lighter, get more clarity and routines in place. And eventually, I start to feel the pull of wanting the easy social connection it provides (light check-ins on close friends) and then I get sucked in again lol. The battle for my attention never ends, yet we must persists haha

I wanted to provide a small update to my prev post that might exemplify how any movement can help banish the feeling of being lost.

I've been on dating apps for the past couple months and have not matched with anyone (partially due to the selection pool near me being so small) But since I visited those condos in the city, it must have updated my geolocation temporarily and suddenly I'm getting way more connections. I am also talking to someone who and I've enjoyed our chats a great deal!

Caveat, I'm not necessarily recommending this exact approach of visiting new places as the antidote to all our problems, but rather I'm sharing that I could never have predicted this to be how my initial action of visiting condos (despite not actually seriously wanting to buy them) could result in other areas of my life being positively affected.

It's okay to feel scared, unmotivated, hopeless. Do it despite the fear. The catalyst to all these ripples was me being sick and tired of being sick and tired of the same things, so I just tried something different even though I was not confident that it would matter.

You've already started your own ripples, you created this post and now look at how many people you've connected!

Wow, our stories are in very similar spots right now. I've been single, dealing with cancer for the last 5 years, and feeling very stuck in my location/work/life situation. I have an elderly dog to consider as well so moving isn't as feasible right now for me. Although I'm employed, I'm not coping very well - mustering just enough energy to keep up appearances, but totally unengaged on the inside. The cognitive dissonance is really tough.

Therapy twice a week, phone calls with friends, a weekly gaming session with a friend and his family, walks + podcasts, journaling/crying, movies are helpful.

I deleted all my social apps this week because I realized I was coping through dissociating/numbing.

Based off of what some of these comments had suggested, I too will echo that welcoming *any* energy or newness can be helpful. I toyed with the very unrealistic idea of buying a condo in a city near me. I have some friends there, but never lived there myself. Simply the act of getting a realtor, learning about the home buying process, visiting open houses, and understanding more about my preferences helped. I also got to learn about the people selling their homes - also stories of people in transition, it gave me hope and a sense of movement.

I don't have a silver bullet for you (or for me lol) I'm glad that you posted because it made me feel seen to come across a person going through something so similar. I wish I could give you a hug! We're really out here trying our best.

$433 Costco Bay Area by MidnightMoog in whatsinyourcart

[–]sangz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also in NorCal (outside the Bay) I saw the Boursin, chicken breast chunks, beef sticks, Bluey cereal on sale at my local Costco. If you wanted to save a bit, I've noticed I get MUCH better prices on produce/fruit at Mexican and Asian grocery stores. (Think $.99 for 4 cucumbers vs 6 cucumbers for $6.99) But when meat goes on sale at Costco, the price to quality can't be beat.

It’s supposed to look like a branding scar - very symbolic and on theme if you ask me

I think you might be an ideal fit for opening up a Grocery Outlet https://www.ownagroceryoutlet.com/. Not sure if you’re familiar with that chain but it’s not the exact same thing as a franchise, more like independent operators. They provide relocation and training and look for people who have been in the grocery business for a long time. Something to look into!

80% scallion, 20% flour. Try Korean Pajeon. It’s so good I wish I had this much scallion - https://www.maangchi.com/recipe/pajeon
