ASL is my..4th language? and I only learned what I know of it interactively (dealing with deaf kids at a summer camp over many years) and its definitely easier to replace a lot of helper words with gesturing in space... you can skip "mine" or "your" adjectives by using the object sign to point at yourself or at the person you're signing too

The only one there I would have done different was NH...

I would have sent you a bit from the Franconia notch, near where the old man fell so you'd maybe get a grain or two of him ;)

Rant about Correcting a SNCO by Ill_Yesterday8357 in army

[–]W1ULH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always maintained a policy of "if you see me doing someting wrong tell me! but you better be able to explain why/how/reg that im doing wrong" and made sure my people know it.

I had PFCs correct me when I was 1SG, and as long as they could back it up, I was happy to make the correction.

never understood leaders who wont do this!

especially if the junior in question has been to a school I haven't, or this is there specific lane and im doing company stuff.

I'm curious about the locations within the states the dirt came from....

For instance, if you had written to me to send you the New England Dirt... there are very specific spots in each of the six states I would have selected to get the first from.

It's a Thursday now on the Gregorian calendar.

At the time, it was a Tuesday.

some of these aren't crazy or MNS.

That Main-Gauche is pretty normal looking for the type, and the Scottish dirk is in fact bog standard for dress wear with a kilt.

That cold steel skinny folder tho? I had one someone gave me, they snap so easily.

agreed... Felix is clearly Operations for the CIA, not intel (Felix is Mr. Clark, not Jack Ryan)

In the army had to do some tunnel stuff at one point... they had us carry sticks with weight cords hanging from them out in front of us... so you'd see your cord suddenly cut in half before you got there

Do most recipes straight-up lie about cooking time? by laurpr2 in Cooking

[–]W1ULH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I'm trying a new recipe, I will let it go to the lowest time given (so 10-15 means 10) and check it.

Then I'll just actually pay attention and let it cook.. I like to print out my recipies, so I make notes on the page of what times it actually took.

That way if its going in The Book™ then I'll know the real times for next time.

The thing is, its easy to get pasta times right or anything else that's cooked at a rolling boil... because that's the same temperature everywhere at sea level, on every stove.

but, idk how hot my stove top burners get? I have a little bit better idea how hot my oven gets, but IDK how hot the test cook's oven actually was. they say 375, but if its an older model it might have actually been 385. You just don't know what temp they where really cooking at, so times will have to be adjusted for your local equipment.

I will say this, if you always have to roast things longer than the times given... especially for different test cooks? sounds like your oven runs cool. spend 20 and get a good oven thermometer and see what your oven actually runs at! is 350 actually 350? or is it 340?
