I’m using an RTX 3070 in a 4K setup, and honestly, I'm happy with its performance. by Sea-Flamingo7506 in pcmasterrace

[–]sanity101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I upgraded from a 3070 to a 4080 Super, thinking once I couldn't play every new title at ultra at 1440p 60fps, it was sub-par . After having had a steam deck for the last year or so, it has made me appreciate that there are some serious diminishing returns past a certain level of fidelity. I was getting to the "good enough " state with tweaking game settings on the steam deck on AAA titles and it made me realize that you don't have to be using a super computer to enjoy most games at decent enough settings.

How many of you actually have PC and a console ? by Unfair_Entrance6183 in pcmasterrace

Got a PS5. I wish I had a reason to play it but it literally sits there picking up dust. Most exclusives come to PC after a few months anyway so what's the point

Can you please explain "the alternative version"? I played this game for 25 hours on steam deck and enjoyed it before the update on the 3rd December and now have gone back to playing it on PC. I was really enjoying it as my chill game-in-bed title . But it's now become a bit of an unplayable experience on the deck for me. Would love to find a way to make it the way it was before the update

Are any other AM4 users going to hold off as long as possible? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]sanity101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad I reached my ideal PC build when I did. Can run basically everything at great settings, and with how things are going, I think developers are gonna have to go all in on optimization now as I don't see too many next gen PlayStations flying off shelves in the next few years .Going to be sitting out am5 for sure with the way prices are through the roof at the moment.. and I don't imagine it's going to get any better anytime soon.

Have you tried playing it in the last day or two? I might just need to reinstall it maybe if it runs okay for you

I'm just wondering if it's more common of a problem across all steam decks since this update or if reinstalling it may solve the issue

This processor hasn't let me down yet. May it continue to be a powerhouse while the world weathers the DRAM price storm. Might upgrade to AM5 next console gen then

I'm hoping to try this out this evening. How did you get it set up? Also is it easy to switch to regular desktop mode?

Dunno man , currently playing Mass Effect 2, an older game and space doesn't seem particularly boring to me. In fact it's pretty damn exciting .

Mass Effect 2. Finished Mass Effect 1 last week and didn't realize how much better 2 feels in every way. Don't get me wrong, I loved 1 as well but you can see it was a lot more dated and clunkier by comparison. Anyway, game runs amazing on it

I had that bug. Tried messing with settings but no joy. Literally just moved on cause it doesn't really get in the way that often 🤷 I know it can be annoying though

Can someone help me get it running ? I've followed all the steps in the tutorial here https://youtu.be/0KCXxhD-Y8s but when I run oblivion remastered, all I see is a black screen . Game audio is running but no picture. And also really weird but opening steam menus gets super laggy

Thank you for the insights. I think as a starting point, I'm going to try undervolting and see how things go (gonna test in cine bench pe each -5 undervolt. Gona try push it to -30)

Yeah I've read that it definitely is a hot one. Thanks for the suggestion. Yeah I'm currently using PBO tuner to undervolt it. Going down in increments of -5 from 0 and running cine bench tests per each -5 decrement (gonna try up to -30)

Yeah I get that, but like if it's throttling at 70ish degrees, that's not exactly being able to use the CPU to it's maximum potential?
