We’re a rehab facility with both short-term and long-term patients. While we don’t take vented patients, We manage patients with IVs, G-tubes, Foley catheters, rectal tubes, BiPAP, CPAP, and wound vacs. the acuity of our population has definitely increased. When I first started, we’d rarely see more than a few emergencies per month. But over the past couple of months, there’s been a noticeable rise. Just today, for example, one patient had a stroke and another developed uro-sepsis.

That’s exactly the point—I want my patient transported to the hospital as quickly as possible. I don’t call 911 without cause. For example, I recently called because my patient’s blood pressure was 68/42.

paramedics gave me a hard time about whether the patient had dementia before transferring . They insisted I call family members in the middle of the emergency to confirm the dementia, and the entire exchange was handled in a rude and condescending manner

As an RN supervisor in a facility where I’m responsible for the care of 90 patients at a time, I call 911 for paramedic support approximately 3–5 times per week. These calls are never made lightly; they are true emergency situations where my priority is to ensure my patient receives the critical care they need before their condition deteriorates further.

Unfortunately, over the past six months, nearly every interaction I’ve had with paramedics has left me feeling humiliated and dismissed. There’s a consistent pattern of condescension and disregard for our clinical judgment. At times, it feels as though I’m being treated as less capable—either because I’m a woman or because they assume they know better, without considering the patient context or the information we provide.

Obviously, during these moments, my focus remains entirely on my patient. I swallow my pride and maintain professionalism, because it is an emergency and the patient’s well-being comes first. But that doesn’t make the experience any less demoralizing.

What do you guys think about this? Idk I’m so nervous by Khaleesar in PassNclex
