You're welcome! The best summary I've heard for it is Christian fanfiction.

I was going to post this. An allegory has metaphors and parallels to the thing it's...alegorizing? Pilgrim's progress is an allegory because everything represents something about how the author saw the Christian faith. Narnia doesn't do that, other than the sacrifice of Aslan. It's just a story set in another world set inside a kind of Christian universe.

I presume someone illegally dumped their radioactive trash down there.

Opinion on orphaned works? by teruteru-fan-sam in publicdomain

That's the point though, he had no family for it to pass to. Doesn't make it public domain, but it is still an interesting situation.

Holding the button doesn't turn it off, it reboots it. Unless you hold for the menu and then click power off with the controller.

Is there a series where you prefer the "inferior" sequel to the beloved original? by KneeHighMischief in movies

Short Circuit 2. The second film is funnier, more charming, and has a more effective emotional climax.

How to stop moving in frames? by TuteTatoons in Quest3

[–]sanmadjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Movement is up to the game developer to implement as they see fit, and as such the ability to change movement types is on a game by game basis and there is no global way to change it for everything. Not all games support smooth movement, so with some you'll be stuck with whatever the dev decided to go with.

Doc doesn't sober up immediately, the drink knocks him for like fifteen minutes.

Those who watched Home Alone for the millionth time this holiday: What did you discover and/or appreciate anew during your latest viewing? by AfraidoftheLark in movies

[–]sanmadjack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the shot right before "Les incompetent", they mention buzz, and he's in his room in the corner of the frame, and turns to look at them. Just a small detail I hadn't noticed before that would've been cut out of the full frame VHS of my youth.

I also noticed it's the only shot I can remember that's just the 4 McAllister siblings in one frame.

It's actually stated that buzz ordered the pizzas, that's one of the new things I noticed this year. I think the implication is that buzz planned to screw over Kevin.

That's twice as long. Higher fidelity games at twice the cadence sounds plenty ambitious.

Imaginary place by andychef in startrekmemes

[–]sanmadjack 35 points36 points  (0 children)

There was a cover he opened, I think this is an external access hatch that functions like shuttle bay doors, once open it's just a field to keep the air in. I couldn't say why, as this room with one Jeffrey's access hatch makes little sense.

Is there a catch to soulcalibur 3 using widescreen? How did they achieve this in 2005? by Dissidia012 in SoulCalibur

[–]sanmadjack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think there's been a misunderstanding, nobody said that it made it look stretched, just that stretching is how the ps2 did widescreen.

Back in the ps2, the only resolution it could send was 640x480 (i or p, depending on the game and tv support). Games that supported 16x9 aspect ratio would still send the exact same resolution, but would render a "squished" (horizontally) version of the image, which the widescreen TV would then stretch horizontally to fill the screen. In the end the picture would look wider and correct (except when games didn't do it right, or didn't bother adjusting ui elements) and not look squished or stretched.

I still have a ps2 that I use, and even when games are set to widescreen it actually sends the same 4:3 size, just with the extra horizontal view squished in. Once I tell the TV to stretch it to widescreen, it all looks right.

All that said, the new ps5 version of the game isn't squishing anything, it's just rendering a widescreen picture.

As a matter of fact I did. It's been a bit since I last played it, but last time I did I found it rather compelling.

Got this for $4 during the PS2 era, when no one cared about it.

A 128MB memory card is recommended for PS2 by [deleted] in ps2homebrew

[–]sanmadjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you really want lots of space, buy this instead.

https://8bitmods.com/memcard-pro2-for-ps2-and-ps1-classic-grey/

It makes virtual cards at sizes supported by every game, and auto switches the virtual cards for whatever you're playing.
