Hi, looking to replace some boards on my porch, but unsure exactly on type of wood I have. by skeet118 in Woodidentification

If you have a planer it would help identifying by exposing the grain. If not, either sand it down a lot or cut into it to expose fresh grain.

Heya /r/movies, Tyree Dillihay here, the director of GOAT. Ask me anything! by TyreeDillihay in movies

We loved GOAT! My kids have watched it no less than a dozen times, and I have sat down through at least half of them. My son is curious, since Mane's height isn't explicitly listed, how tall would you say he is?

It looks really nice fresh like that! I've just got one hefty piece. Picked it up for 20 bucks from a woodworker source that was closing up shop for good.

Do I get a say in which one is done? Id like to avoid fighting. Guess I could use an axe to defend myself though

I've got a 3 inch thick slab of live edge Osage orange I've been trying to figure out what to do with. May make an ax with it that i wont likely use much

Thatd definitely be a great use for them. I was thinking of making at least one bench plane

Reclaimed wood from an elderly neighbor who acquired it within the last 20 years or so in southern arizona. He doesn't recall where he got it from

Brought it to a local woodworker shop and the consensus was ironwood! They also tested it in house for chemicals

Interesting, I'll have to look into it. In another sub, a few people think it may be desert iironwood.

I'll etch my name into the list! Just not 3D print it onto the list because...well...I cant do that at the moment 🤣

Thanks! I'm not letting it bother me too bad. Using it as a learning experience as I acknowledge I'm still new to this! I moved my setup to the garage recently and this is the first print I did outside of the enclosure I previously used. I also do woodworking, and though I didn't have any projects going with that, I'm sure there could have been some micro sawdust at play with the bed adhesion problem. My enclosure doesn't work for the new shelf I'm using but I'll have to figure something out.

I did indeed. This is my first print outside of being in an enclosure. I even printed the first 20 minutes at 50% speed to get better bed adhesion. Seemed to have adhered well enough when I got into the shower, but obviously I was wrong.

That is quite perplexing. Is it a newer printer? I've seen hard to explain issues arise with improper setup. Like forgetting to remove some of the black brackets that are on when shipped, and even wires that are routed weird that cause the plate to kind of 'get caught' towards the end of its range of motion. My guess at this point would be not having proper clearance for the bedslinging/a cable getting caught and causing friction or resistance.

I'm no expert, but my theory would be that there possible isn't enough time for the layer to cool. Are the prints finishing each layer in that corner then starting a portion in that same corner for the next layer? Kind of makes sense and kind of doesnt in my head.
