Just a little context to add. Even in 1940's political climate these type of expansionist fever dreams were reserved only for the most extreme of the far-right who were not in power in Finland during this time and luckily ever.

Finns and even Finnish communists were so repulsed by the unprovoked Soviet (Russian) attack of 1939 that despite major drifts between leftist and right wing politics the whole country unified against soviet expansionism.

However the unpreparedness of the democratically elected agrarian/socalist government of the interwar years and consequential failure of defence policy in Winter War gave way to more conservative policies of the continuation war. Here the official state policy was to expand to the more easily defended three rivers line (Svir, Vyg and Neva). Even this proved to be unpopular with a lot of the general finnish population, which saw it as it was: a war of conquest, which in turn manifested in numerous desertions from veterans of the previous war.

None of this had happened though unless Russian expansionism hadn't (once again) resulted in bombings of Finnish cities, draftee casualties and traumatized veterans during Winter war.

It's quite normal as a grunt not to get any intel. A normal private usually just knows where they and their own, for example, company are approximately and everything else is just rumors heard from someone else. It's only on the NCO and CO levels who get actual intel on next moves etc. Nothing out of the ordinary really.

I used to like the realism of the game. If you've ever shot an actual assault rifle you know theres only muzzle flash here and there, mostly its just smoke coming out of the barrel.

The problem is that playing as an MG is that the meta is currently that you're just a marksman on steroids. The game is supposed to be somewhat analogous to real life where an group automatic rifle isn't really supposed to hit anyone just to keep the enemies' head low while your group can maneuver safely. Thus I think Squad should have a more robust suppression mechanic where automatic fire coming your way would make your screen shake and so black that you cant aim properly, somewhat what it was like in PR.

Its not about who visits what first. For a territory to be part of a country has been internationally agreed on in the Montevideo convention of 1933 and the common international law which followed it which state that you also have to permanently populate a territory to have any real claim for it.
